Knoebels Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If the plantiff is claiming that she was in pain for 7 months and could not do routine activities, it will now be much more difficult to prove that she was doing certain activities during those 7 months after the fact. If she filed the lawsuit earlier the defendant could have hired a Private Investigator to follow her and record her daily activities and falsify her claim. -

You don't know much about lawsuits, do you? Lawyers do not file lawsuits immediately. And by the way, the plantiffs should be executed. -
The General Public
larrygator replied to richards.adam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have no problem with the general public, I have problems with people that don't follow rules, are rude and are disrespectful. I see rule breakers from the general public and the enthusiast community. Actually I see a higher % of people that bother me from the enthusiast community. One example, Holliwood Nights the first year Voyage opened. Enthusiasts were holding places for their friends, people were trying to cut ahead of others for select seats. I had one enthusiast sitting next to me that was wearing a GPS device on his forearm and whacked me in the head multiple times because he insists riding with his hands up. On every TPR Trip I have seen rude enthusiasts that push others to get to the queue first. Even seen people that refuse to leave the first or last row during ERT when others have not ridden in the row yet. Robb and Elissa make it very clear that you should give up your seat in the first and last rows after each ride if anyone else wants your row. Sometimes a train comes into the station and 3 people are waiting for the first row and the 4 currently on the train refuse the leave their seats because they all think they are entitled to ride again. I've seen people on TPR trips disregard park rules plenty of times. And it is not an "accident" but when repeat they actions over and over throughout the trip. Someone mention that the general public acts entitled when they travel far or pay a lot of money to get in, but I see that sense of entitlement more often from enthusiasts. People that prefer crappy coasters because they are fast and have loops don't bother me at all. That allows me shorter waits for great coasters such El Toro and I-305. The general public subsidizes new rides in parks. I'm more amused than annoyed when someone quotes incorrect facts, actually I'm more annoyed by know-it-all enthusiasts who spew facts all the time. The only actions that I see exclusively from the general public and not enthusiasts that bothers me is the slow pace they walk and how they will congregate in front of on open ride deciding whether to ride or not. -

SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This link contains links to RFPs for two proposed new amusement parks on site http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2014/03/two_ideas_for_amusement_parks.html Two proposals to bring back Jazzland at Six Flags site; Which one do you like? Katherine Sayre, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune March 28, 2014 at 3:44 PM As city leaders look to rejuvenate the shuttered Six Flags site in eastern New Orleans, two groups of developers are pitching ideas for restoring the amusement park's beloved predecessor. Jazzland, a New Orleans-themed, roller coaster park, was taken over by entertainment chain Six Flags in 2002. Some bemoaned the loss of local flavor with the handover. Three years later, Hurricane Katrina washed through, and the park was abandoned. Six Flags locator map The New Orleans Industrial Development Board now holds title to the 150-acres. In January, the board launched a search for a developer after plans for an outlet mall crumbled last year. A selection committee has two proposals on the table, so far: The Paidia Company, operating through subsidiary TPC-NOLA Inc., once again is proposing to resurrect a Jazzland. Paidia had made a similar proposal in 2011, only to be rebuffed by Mayor Mitch Landrieu's administration early in the selection process. A $50 million initial phase to reconstruct the amusement park. Plans for a second phase include a $20 million music-themed water park called "Baritone Beach" along with development retail outlets in the future. Transformation Village LLC submitted a wide-ranging, seven-phase plan that starts with building a Jazzland park, although the plan has no clear source of funding or cost estimate. Future phases of the development would include a water park called "Atlantis," a dome-shaped shopping center arranged by global continents, a 450-foot replica of Noah's Ark that houses an orchestra studio, a movie production lot, a resort-hotel complex and a facility for students studying hospitality. The committee -- made up of Industrial Development Board Chairman Alan Philipson, members Justin Augustine and Edith Jones, Landrieu's economic development advisor Aimee Quirk and head of the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority Jeff Hebert -- meets Tuesday at 1 p.m. at 1340 Poydras Ave. in the 21st flood conference room. The committee is still accepting proposals. Look through the two plans already submitted and tell us in the comments which one looks better to you -- and why. -
I had been to the park 8 times last season before I finally went on SORA. Normally, I ride El Toro for my first 60-90 minutes in the park, but El Toro did not open with the park that morning so I went over to SORA before the line got too long. I rode it again later in the summer just to see if my first tour guide was exceptional good but the new tour guide was also good.

East Coast Parks - Need Suggestions
larrygator replied to WildStangAlex's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite food choices at some of those parks are as follows: Hersheypark: The BBQ place down by Trailblazer. Also make sure the get a something from the smores cart. Knoebels: Pretty much anything. Fried Cheese on a stick (mozzarella in cornbread), Corn nuggets, pierogies, frozen sweet tea, If you get there before opening go to the International Food Court for homemade french toast. Great Adventure: The turkey legs provide the most bang for your buck, Nathans and Panda Express are good, but higher priced than outside an amusement park SFNE: The indoor BBQ joint near the Goliath entrance serves tasty food Lake Compounce: Potato Patch fries -
I would guess that people always used to just drive past the safari and hurry on to the park, rather than stay in their car for another hour after already driving a long way to get there. Now that it's just like another ride, people are like, "Ooh! A line to stand in! Let's go get in it!" Even though before, you could stay in your nice air-conditioned car the whole time, and now you get to bake in the sun in line, and then bake in the sun some more on the ride. Moral of the story: People are dumb. I'm not sure where you assessment of people are dumb comes from based on SORA. While I agree people are dumb, but I don't think that has anything to do with their desire to experience SORA. Throughout the 70's and 80's many patrons were not as self absorbed and in love with their cars, so hey didn't mind driving down a dusty road encountering animals. It has been known for years that many people were unwilling to drive their "nice" cars into the safari and attendance dropped. SGFAdv even tried selling upcharge bus trips a few years ago. In recent years the park has been focusing on families and SORA provides an experience for the whole family to experience together. I have seen many large family groups (ten or more people) queue up to ride together, that's what makes the ride popular. I think they have about 18 trucks (I could be wrong) and if each truck only holds 24 people and the round trip take an hour you are also looking at a low capacity ride. While the shading in the queue is not ideal, I did not find myself baking during the ride. It's a covered vehicle and the are you drive through is shaded in many places. It think most times my driver stopped, we were under a tree for shade, whether the driver knew this is not I'm not certain. And speaking of the tour guides, I found mine quite amusing and informative. The tour guides offer insight that would not not get driving through in your own car so that is a clear improvement over the safari.

^^Probably the same amount as adults. About $5 a bucket I haven't been anyplace where you can buy a bucket of circular discs for $1 in years. -

It will be a multi-purpose ride. It will combine some aspects of the world's greatest (and the Alvey's favorite) rides. You start the ride in trackless car (similar to TDL's Hunny Hunt). However, it has a much more sinister Valhalla type theme. It turns out a Lava Monster type creature is involved and sets the ride building ablaze. Your vehicle magically transforms into a log and you are placed into the water for a wild ride escaping from the fire. Of course the fire has ravaged the villages you pass through at night and the villagers home (and clothes) are destroyed. The men are out battling the blaze and your ride vehicle is forced to pass a multitude of topless Scandinavian animatronics who offer their services if you will rescue them. After the ride is finished you are given free alcohol in celebration. I'm pretty sure that is the concept. -
^I thought LJ would play the idol also and thought he was screwed when he didn't. I was nice to see things fall into place for the Brains but I'm sure they'll screw things up.

Chuck's Shameless Nostalgia TR: TPR's 2006 UK Trip
larrygator replied to cfc's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I loved the Mr Hyde part of The Ultimate, I know I was in the minority. I did ride it about 6 times and of course didn't have time to experience the Toad Hole. At one point by group was walking off the beaten path and we found a operating tower ride (can't remember if it was launch or drop) in what appeared to be plopped down in the middle of the woods. I remember after the UK trip asking if anyone had a picture of it and no one else remembered even seeing it.
