  1. I know the lights dim slightly in the Racer's station whenever we lock the buzz bars, so I guess anything is possible.
  2. This cable thing is getting a little out of hand... Steel cables just don't break like this. Either the park isn't inspecting them properly, or Intamin needs to reconsider their catch car system. It really is that simple.
  3. Isn't Roller Soaker closed this time of year? Maybe that's why they're only advertising that they have 10 coasters.
  4. Demolition of the Turnpike's concrete roadbed and overpasses has begun.
  5. The best Toy Story spoof ever. (Warning: some language) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRQtepPPeM8
  6. That's not a valid explanation. Hersheypark has always counted Lightning Racer as one ride.
  7. I'm desperate... Is it a dildo?
  8. If that gash was truly caused by the cable, then Intamin seriously needs to reconsider their catch-car system.
  9. I made these using an online motivational poster generator. bighugelabs.com/motivator.php It's serious business. Inspired by the recent spam attacks on the board.
  10. Just emailed him. PARY HARD, Dan, PARTY HARD.
  11. A shotgun sabot?
  12. I don't think the train could have snagged the catch car like that. The catch on Intamin rocket coasters is spring loaded so that after it pulls out from the catch car it retracts up into the train. Something else must have happened.
  13. The slit doesn't have to be narrower than the cable. Remember, when a cable breaks it snaps back and bunches up, so even partially covering the top of the trough would probably prevent the cable from escaping. The idea is to make it statistically unlikely for the cable to pop out, not impossible. Better that than a lawsuit.
  14. What Intamin could do is partially cover the catch-car trough and leave a thin slit down the center for the catch. Of course, this would necessitate a complete redesign of the catch-car system, but it would help contain the cable and catch-car in case of a cable failure.
  15. That's not exactly something you see everyday, thanks for sharing. Speaking of cool aircraft, I've seen quite a bit of military aircraft flying around here recently, I'm guessing they have something to do with the G20 summit.
  16. It's acceleration, not speed, that puts stress on cables.
  17. I just remembered how much I miss SeaWorld Ohio.
  18. Sometimes after a long day at work I dream I'm hanging up sycoaster flight suits. Oh, the joys of having a highly repetitive job...
  19. 10:00 PM usually, although last night we closed at 9:00. It all depends on how many people are there.
  20. As of this Saturday, most of the trees around the Turnpike have been removed.
  21. Not necessarily true. B&M, Intamin and Arrow were all building coasters during the 90's, and even though they all had (I'm assuming) access to the most up-to-date computers, B&M and Intamin's coasters were still far superior to Arrow's. Besides, the calculations required to design a coaster are relatively simple by computer standards, so a coaster designed on a modern computer probably won't be any better than if it were designed on a computer from '95. Both computers will give you the same result.
  22. Why did Kennywood's rating drop so much?
  23. Well, my grandfather's funeral was today. He died from cardiac arrest last Saturday at The Cedars assisted living facility here in Monroeville. The nurses at The Cedars and Forbes Hospital tried to restart his heart, but to no avail. It didn't come as a complete surprise, his health had been failing for quite some time, but it was still a shock. It's funny, he always hoped and prayed that when his time came he would just drop dead, without any pain. I guess God, in his infinite mercy, honored his request. His suffering is over; he's with God now. RIP granddaddy, I'll miss you.
