  1. Wow... China is a lot weirder than I originally thought. Keep up the good pictures and have a great time, guys!
  2. All these hat related accidents really need to stop. If a hat really means that much to you, don't ride with it. It really is that simple.
  3. I'd be scared, too. I can't imagine how terrible the traffic is going to be tomorrow. And.. uh-oh, I feel a rant coming on... oh dear... [begin rant] I really want to know what was going through those French settlers' minds when the decided to settle New Orleans. I mean, seriously, you'd think that they would have looked at the topography of the area and realized, "You know, this place looks liable to flood if a nasty storm hits." But of course, like most settlers back then, they didn't even consider it. Then in the 20th century, the city government thought it would be a good idea to drain some of the low-lying swamp around the area so they could expand the city. Unfortunately, removing the water from the soil allowed the land to start subsiding, which has caused these areas to drop a few feet below sea level, and they still continue to drop. Why is it that we humans have a tendency to settle in disaster prone areas and not give a second thought about it, then when a disaster does strike we all ask how this could of happened, even though the answer is staring us in the face? Why do we do things, like drain swampland, without considering all the possible consequences? Is it ignorance? Is it our tendency to make a profit at the expense of safety? Is it because we're overconfident in our technology? What is it!!? [end rant] OK, I'm done.
  4. Maverick's launch tunnel is pretty cool, especially with the special effects.
  5. If I remember correctly, they got rid of the old brake system because it stopped the trains rather violently. The new magnetic brake system, while it may lack nostalgia, slows the trains smoothly and consistently.
  6. All your base are belong to us.
  7. My experience tells me Vekoma is worse than Arrow. Actually, a fair number of the Arrow coasters I've been on were bearable, I can't say the same for the Vekoma coasters I've ridden. Another reason I prefer Arrow over Vekoma is that Arrow was by far more innovative. Arrow built the first tubular steel coaster (Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland), the first modern inverting coaster (Corkscrew at Knott's Berry Farm), the first Hypercoaster (Magnum XL200 at Cedar Point), the first modern suspended coaster (The Bat at King's Island), the first log flume ride (El Aserradero at SFOT), and the first fourth dimensional coaster (X at SFMM). What has Vekoma done? Created the Boomerang, SLC and Flying Dutchman, all of which are pain machines.
  8. ^School hasn't started in my area yet.
  9. ... went ice cold. The TOGO death machine was about ready to give the final blow, when suddenly...
  10. Looks like a great ride, but ... Pilgrim's Plunge?! What kind of name is that?
  11. I pretty sure Fahrenheit will be open, it's just they haven't updated the list yet. However, if it really isn't going to be open, I'd have to imagine it would be because of staffing issues. From what I've heard, it's pretty hard to get people to work at amusement parks in October.
  12. Great Photo TR. I thought CRR was a pretty good rapids ride; I'm glad I rode it before they closed it.
  13. I don't want to look up any of these shows. I'm afraid that if I do I'll realize just how retarded they are, and that it will destroy the good memories I have of them.
  14. I've heard a rumor that Kennywood will bring back one of their old rides, like the Bayern Kurve or Swing Around, for 2009.
  15. This news doesn't surprise me at all. Hopefully the park can pull out of this mess and succeed, but that's being optimistic...
  16. Looking great! I think the chances of me visiting KI in 2009 are about 60% because of this roller coaster, whereas before they were 20%.
  17. So Kennywood's going to offer season passes next year. Perhaps I'll get one.
  18. Millennium Force and TTD are both good the first time but not the second.
  19. Screw you, PETA!! You'll never change the world, and attempting to buy Seaworld isn't going to help your PR, either. P.S. - I'm back!!!
  20. So far I'm unimpressed. It's just like every other coaster show I've watched.
  21. Another 6 hours before I have to go to the airport. At least Pittsburgh Intl is laid out in a way that makes sense, but I'm not sure how Houston or Albuquerque is going to be.
  22. Thanks, I'll take a look at it.
  23. Great Photo TR! Hopefully I can go on these trips one of these days.
  24. While I must agree with Scaparri, B&M isn't building many of those cutting edge, awesome coasters they were building a few years ago, I also agree with yankees15 in that, quite frankly, B&M hasn't been asked to do anything cutting edge by their customers for quite some time. I think right now parks are content with building what's tried and proven and are not really into building anything too groundbreaking, like they were a few years ago. As far as Diamondback goes, I think, as unoriginal as it may be, it will be a great ride and may persuade me to visit KI next year.
