  1. This park is Cedar Fair's equivalent of Great Escape. There's an amazing wooden coaster, a decent second coaster, but then garbage follows for coasters but they each have nice water parks. I had to skip Michigan Adventure's water park due to time but it looked very good.
  2. I see what you mean about rides not opening. Tig'rr and the kiddie coaster were down all day. I was able to get on the other four coasters despite them going down. Steel Hawg got stuck on the MCBR and went down for the night after riders were evacuated in a cherry picker. Lost Coaster got stuck about a half hour before closing. Cornball was down most of the night and maintenance was looking at the trains. Hoosier Hurricane was the only coaster that ran uninterrupted. For the non-coasters, Double Shot and Den of Lost Thiefs were both closed. My feelings on the park were mixed. The park's location and ride selection is fantastic. However, the number of closed or broken attractions were frustrating. This park has the potential to be special if those can be remedied I absolutely loved Cornball and the strength of the airtime caught me off-guard, especially with the buzz bar. Hoosier Hurricane was pretty good with some air and good laterals. Lost Coaster was so messed up that it was awesome and the drops really packed a wallop on that one riding backwards. Steel Hawg was a lot of fun though the drop wasn't as intense as I had expected.
  3. By the time I left, Mad Mouse was testing and Zach's Zoomer reopened. Overall I thought the park was decent. Shivering Timbers was an outstanding ride. Wolverine Wildcat was pretty good and had more air than expected. They really need a good steel coaster though. Their steel coasters are so poor that Zach's Zoomer is my third favorite coaster in the park. Thunderhawk was smoother than most SLCs but still bad (it was a 3/10 type of ride instead of a 1/10). Then those Corkscrew trains were way smaller than Canobie's and I could barely fit. There looked like there was a nice patch of land next to Adventure Falls that could fit a certaon hand-me-down coaster from Knott's.
  4. Having just visited Michigan's Adventure today, I can say that Great Escape is to Six Flags as Michigan's Adventure is to Cedar Fair.
  5. Seems like the park is having a lot of trouble with their coasters today. Corkscrew was down for the first 2 hours. Mad Mouse and Zach's Zoomer have been down all day with employees walking the track. Now Shivering Timbers is having some issues. Thankfully I got on Timbers twice earlier since I need to leave soon. I love the layout.
  6. I had a busy day a few years back. The Comet only was a 15 minute wait since it ran two trains but Alpine Bobsled was probably an hour due to its low capacity. Then the other coasters run one train and got towards 30 minutes.
  7. The two new rides look great. I probably wouldn't ride them in a visit to the park, but they're nice for those who visit more frequently.
  8. Usually when a new ride is announced I'll watch the POV but I then try to avoid watching it again so I don't memorize the entire layout drop for drop. But at least I can get an idea how awesome a ride looks from that first pov I see.
  9. And one could feel free to substitute the Buffalo Bills over the Browns into that little zinger too! I'm such a spoiled Patriots fan. I started watching them in 2000 and the second year I followed them was the first year of Brady. I'm sure I'll suffer sometime after Brady and Belichick leave but for now I can ride the high. I just think they hadn't gotten around to putting it up. I'd think they'd want it up before Memorial Day weekend.
  10. Glad to hear the park finally got this coaster open after all of the headaches. I'm interested to see reviews how it rides relative to the SkyRocket II in particular.
  11. I'd be happy to stop by if you're in the area. I still owe you one for driving me back to the hotel last year so I could stay at Kings Island until midnight. Lake Compounce is one of those parks that mixes the old and new very well.
  12. I like Millennium Force's tunnels because of the speed and how tight the clearance feels. The half enclosed or heavily illuminated tunnels do nothing for me.
  13. Disneyland's Space Mountain caught me offguard in a good way my first ride since I was expecting a layout like Florida's but it was a lot different and maintained its speed better. The ones that surprise me are enclosed coasters since I want to keep those ones a surprise like the park wants to by enclosing it. The most memorable for me is Florida's Revenge of the Mummy since that first launch and when it occurs completely surprised me. I'm trying to think of an outdoor coaster that truly surprised me but I spoiled most of those via POVs. Honestly I'd have to go with some of the mountain coasters and Adventureland's Turbulence. The first since mountain coasters were a newer thing for me last summer and the latter was because a spinning coaster POV is challenging to watch.
  14. Don't forget Quassy if you're visiting those two. After the big 3 coasters (Superman, Wicked Cyclone, Boulder Dash), Quassy's Wooden Warrior is the best coaster in that area.
  15. Definitely stop in for a few hours during your next visit since lines are never bad at Lake Compounce. The worst wait is for Boulder Dash if they're running one train and even then it never exceeds a half hour except in rare cases.
  16. ^ I didn't realize they had single rider lines for the slides. That's great news. Does the single rider line begin at the start of the queue or later in the queue?
  17. I'm planning my first visit to the park on Sunday and am monitoring the threat of thunderstorms as well. I'm hoping it'll just be a passing one since it seems like the park will run everything in rain.
  18. Lake Compounce (Spring) Unsure SFNE's Joker would be open (it ended up being open so I stopped by afterwards), I decided to pay a visit to Lake Compounce since the two parks are about 45 minutes apart. I bought a season pass this year since they were only $55 which is a real steal considering Funtown charges double that for their's and Canobie doesn't even offer season passes. It had been a very long time since I had been to Lake Compounce during the day, but I've been there the past 4-5 years for the Haunted Graveyard. I can't pass up the opportunity to experience the best park haunt in the area and get rare night rides on my favorite wooden coaster, Boulder Dash. Speaking of Boulder Dash, the park did some great track work on the coaster this offseason. Last year the once awesome triple up became a bone-jarring element. The rest of the coaster was its normal great self but this section was brutal if you didn't brace yourself. Thankfully the park converted this section into a double-up and it now rides much better. Still gives great air-time but it's not uncomfortable (there was some vibrations over this section but nothing awful). They also retracked the far turnaround so if you like laterals, be prepared to be pinned to the side of your seat. Boulder Dash was running really well this early in the season. The ride was flying through the course combining insane laterals with a mix of ejector and floater air. I got 8 rides on this coaster. 6 walk-ons in the first hour and then two 20 minute waits later in the day when the ride warmed up. Phobia was a great sidekick to Boulder Dash and giving outstanding ejector air over the top. Zoomerang was a boomerang. It's the best boomerang I've been on, but that still isn't saying much. Wildcat was in pretty good shape but not quite ready to open. It looks like the first drop is the last major section they need to install. I got a glimpse of the nice new Millennium Flyer trains and couldn't believe how short they were (appear to be 7 rows). I was happy to see the two water rides open before Memorial Day. Thunder River didn't have all the effects and rapids turned on, which was probably a good call on a 65 degree day. The ride was great as always and reminded me how frustrating it was that Canobie scrapped plans for their rapids ride this year. The flume was fun, but had the longest wait of the day (30 minutes) due to only 4 boats running. The water park wasn't open yet, but the park had a lot of construction going on just beyond Riptide Racers. It almost looks like they're trying to create a full loop around the lake which would be really nice since the rapids ride and sky ride are at a dead end. Speaking of the Sky Ride, the park no longer allows single riders which is a disappointment. The park's Sky Ride is the best one out there since it is a relaxing 30 minute ride up the mountain. I wonder if this is another response to the Idlewild accident. I saw people posting on the Kennywood discussion thread that the park changed many of their height requirements; I think Lake Compounce may have done the same. The most striking one to me was the 42" height requirements on the Zoomers antique cars and log flume. I definitely remember riding the latter as a kid when I was below 42". Then a 42" minimum for antique cars seems overkill. With the season pass, I plan to stop by a few more times this summer as Boulder Dash gets faster and to try the newly renovated Wildcat. The slow but snappable flyers. You really feel accomplished when you get a snap on these ones. It's still my favorite wooden coaster out there. Few coasters have a setting as great as Boulder Dash. The triple up has now been replaced by a double up which removed the only really rough part of the ride. The new wood still needs to be broken in a bit, but rest assured you will be launched sky high still. The speed and airtime on the return leg is unreal. Just look how many hills there are. The far turnaround was retracked too and delivers some of the most intense laterals of any coaster. Look at that naked drop tower. It looks so weird without the topper. The iconic Lake Compounce shot. They have quite a bit of construction going back there. I'd love to see them complete the loop and connect the entire park to itself. The all new guns made it so you could actually shoot targets. Take that Trump for gun control. I was greeted by this nice new sign. I love how close to the midway Phobia is. It's a gold mine for photos. Phobia forever changed the park's skyline. I miss the old Rotor but this is a pretty fun flat. With only 4 boats running, I had to wait a bit for this shot. Splashdown. Not all the waterfalls and rapids were turned up yet, so the amount of wetness was perfect for a spring day. Love the ride, but just wish it had a longer cycle. The screamin' swings have such a distinctive sound to them. So this is why the weathermen are never right. Better advertising than Six Flags. The first half is nearly impossible to photograph. Part of the reason why it's the best night ride out there. Now this is a real mountain coaster. No need to argue whether or not this one's a credit. Single riders are no longer allowed on the sky ride. It's a shame since it's the best sky ride out there. Oh yeah and the park has a lake too. I love the theme and the audio they play at the top. Hope no one has any loose change. Phobia is an amazing coaster. I wouldn't mind seeing these Sky Rocket II's as often as boomerangs. It was a beautiful day to visit. One of the better ride signs out there. This would probably be called a coaster if it were at Six Flags. Identity Crisis the Ride. Wildcat wasn't open quite yet. The park looks to be replacing almost the entire layout. These new sexy trains along with the new wood should hopefully make this ride smooth. This is the best boomerang I've been on, which is like saying you're the best player on the Cleveland Browns. Speaking of boomerangs...
  19. The park also has plenty of single rider lines to help if it gets packed. They are offered on the following: - Batman Dark Knight (Flash Pass line, unmarked so check with attendant before entering) - Goliath (Halfway through the normal queue, may be able to skip to it depending on the attendant) - Joker (Near the end of the normal queue) - Pandemonium (Flash Pass line, unmarked) - Scream- (Flash Pass line, marked) Wicked Cyclone's line is about an hour if it's backed up to the entrance area. Superman can get up to 60-90 minutes on a nice weekend day. I highly recommend the back on Wicked Cyclone and the front on Superman.
  20. Haha though I haven't seen Goliath have break down yet this year. It was down due to weather but that's to be expected with that ride.
  21. Honestly front and back cars are a must try on both Lightning Run and Storm Chaser.
  22. With Flashback trying to set a record for breakdowns at the park this year, that's the last thing we need.
  23. Glad to hear Rebel Yell getting some love because I remember the ride having solid airtime. I just wished it was a little smoother.
  24. I'd love to see observation towers make a comeback. Being a coaster fan and too cheap to buy a drone, it's one of the best ways to get good photos of coasters and gives unique views of them.
  25. I personally like the dog fart coaster theme for how weird and random it is. I don't know man, that's a pretty ridiculously awesomely themed ride. Distasteful? Sure I guess. But worst? No way. Also not the worst I supposed, but one of the most hilariously bad (and awesome) is Skull Mountain. First off: the death metal. Its fast. Its loud. Its ridiculous. Its amazing. But why? Also, why is there a glowing pumpkin inside of a mountain? What do pumpkins have to do with mountains? And how would a pumpkin grow inside a mountain? Is the pumpkin responsible for the moan at the beginning of the ride? And then... a random skull and strobe lights. The end. I feel like Skull Mountain is the David Pumpkins of roller coasters (for SNL fans out there). It's so absurd and leaves you asking so many questions, yet you love it.
