  1. While that may have been true the park it was in didn't & SFI made a decision early on to "GL" or "SFAW" the place.
  2. Well Pat informed me of her plans to visit KI sometime during this week, she also mentioned the new CEO making plans to tour KD so let's see where that goes. I was told by another employee who was visiting on his day off about KD's total land available & was informed that the park has at least two miles worth of land remaining for development but that they're in no hurry to develop all of it too soon.
  3. That's done on most all tower rides, it prevents the grease that lets it move smoothly from caking up and inevitably falling on riders as the car moves. It was on a TV show filmed at KD and they showed it being done on Drop Tower. If anyone can remember the name of that show feel free to share. DIY network's project extreme....heck they're still playing it in Dominator's queue.
  4. AFIK the dive machines use standard ratcheting restraints so there's no need for an onboard power supply for that.Since the flyers use locking pins on the restraints there is a need for an onboard power system to keep the pins in place during the ride.
  5. Saw the show saturday & thought that the park did an excellent job of putting it together...it's all about location, location, location & they sure got it right in this case.
  6. Was there saturday as well & man was it busy but the crews were doing an excellent job loading & dispatching trains save for the rebel yell crew as they weren't synching up the dispatches on both sides properly. The Grizzly crew in the evening totally ROCKED!!! the guy on load was high fiving riders as they entered the station & the panel op was having a blast entertaining the whole station with her energetic spiels on the mic during load/unload & as per usual the ride itself performed flawlessly. While in the park I got the chance to meet the GM & tell her how my day was going & inquire about any new stuff for 2012,of course she wouldn't say much other than it's up to corporate as to what the park gets but it was great talking to her.She told me she was heading to KI this week...my guess is to check out windseeker, which she'd asked me if I'd ridden it & of course I havn't so I wonder if they're considering adding one soon at KD?
  7. This is why I so hope they'd add a B&M invert as capacity on volcano just can't meet the demands of a park the size of KD & to add to it the overall layout just isn't exciting to me anymore which is why I generally just skip it alltogether regardless of the wait time.
  8. Not sure if I'm gonna take my camcorder on this trip.
  9. While the butterfly was a little smoother than usual the corkscrews flat out hurt. Anyone going to KD saturday? I plan on heading there to get my monthly coaster fix in as well as to check out SSS & the fireworks.
  10. Sorta like Batman, Green Lantern, Superman, Bizarro, and Dark Knight? All very original Why does everyone assume that FD from CGA is being sent to KI?Last I read it's going nowhere at the present time.
  11. I hear you. Besides, Dorney Park isn't the only park getting hand-me-downs. Take a look at Carowinds and the hand-me-downs they received in the past - Nightwing (formerly Stealth from CA), Scream Weaver (formerly Apple Turnover from KD), Woodstock Flight (formerly Eagle Flight from KI), and Carolina Cobra (former Head Spin from GL). Even my home park of Kings Dominion got three hand-me-down rides from the defunct GL: Dominator, Americana, and El Dorado. Besides, hand-me-down or not, the park is getting another ride and that is still better than getting no ride at all. "Done yet? Good! Come to me!" Carowind's enterprise is NOT the one from KD....theirs was relocated from elsewhere in the park while KD's was sent to the park's boneyard to my knowledge.
  12. With his background in the Disney parks as opposed to the CF/SF type theme parks I have a feeling that we'll be saying so long to the "coaster wars" that Kinzel helped to kick start.Instead I think the new guy may take an SF style approach & add new kiddie/family rides over thrills at most,if not all of the parks as it's cost effective & does bring in the families.
  13. OMG, that actually happened to me in a dream last night...except the brakes did kick in. That would be something to see though, a car that big freefalling and hitting those brakes. KD's drop tower does it all the time...granted it's designed to however.
  14. In Doswell, Virginia. If only there was a "like" button for this post.
  15. Sounds like the makings of "six flags Brazil" to me as they basically intend to retheme their kiddie area into the Brazilian version of the LTMT section found at most SF parks in the US while the other aforementioned theme section will become a gotham city style area with the obligatory batman or superman themed coaster as it's main attraction.
  16. So do I,they're the second worst seats I've ridden on a coaster aside from Anaconda near the back.
  17. Yeah he's been doing that ever since he saw I305's layout back in 09 & complained right off the bat about it.
  18. I've noticed the same sort of problems on rides like Dominator for instance. Last time I rode a couple weeks ago I got off feeling a bit queasy, especially what with the ride's high speed rapid fire turns/final helix but didn't really have a problem on anything else other that triple spin.I think it has something to do with the bal;ance systems in our body not functioning as well with increased age as they did when we were younger as I've never really had this sensation on rides myself till just recently.
  19. ^That & they have a max height restriction of 200ft for all rides.
  20. http://www.screamscape.com/html/six_flags_america.htm Yay. Why is screamscape even confirming the SFA 2012 project as a coaster?Odds are it's not gonna be one as quite a few flats could fit there seeing as the only flat in SI is high seas & Roar is like right next to the soon to be former queue/exit for SM.
  21. I agree & let's not forget the poorly planned duel station designs used on the two flying dutchman's a decade ago not to mention SFOG's flyer that don't even operate the stations as designed a good majority of the time.
  22. One of the reasons GL ultimately closed was because when SFI ran the park the investments in terms of rides stopped alltogether, with ironically both parks recieving flying dutchman clones the same year(2001) & next to nothing major since other than cheap waterpark attractions.
  23. They were rumored to get a family coaster this season but of course that didn't come to pass but the big problem is that, like GL under CF management SFA has been removing rides without adding new ones for years now.So far we've seen iron eagle removed & replaced by a stage when a new flat could've gone there, same goes for the enterprise right next door being replaced by a character dressing room & not to mention chaos being removed & briefly replaced by avalanche only to have that ride removed as well. The park hasn't replaced those rides for the simple reason that in order to do so SFI would have to hold off on giving MM or GRADV another new,big coaster every other year & it's also why whenever SFA did get a new ride it was a water ride as those were much less costly than a flat or even a small coaster...this is also evident in the fact that many of the TT rides were just old ones relocated from elsewhere in the park & advertised as "new" for the kiddie area that was added recently.
  24. Yeah Grizz is back in top form after the offseason trackwork, even the orange train is smoother now....wish I could say the same for Dominator though.
  25. Well if the park would just spend money on adding new rides then they'd see an ROI,they were on somewhat of a good path 15 years ago until Burke got it into his head that only SFMM,SFGADV & SFGRAM were the only three parks deserving of major rides year after year....granted in addition to rides they could've gone a longer way toward improving the overall guest experience which was sacrificed in favor of those early large ride installations that came along with the SF rebranding in 99.
