Anyone remember the contract vekoma had at one time with paramount parks for the flying dutchman coasters? I take it Busch did the same for the DM too. -
Planned but Cancelled
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Rollercoaster Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Do you recall the original plans for the HR retheme to a congo themed ride? The reason it was cancelled of course was because the movie bombed in theatres when it was released back in 1995. -
The park has confirmed that something will take it's place, so they'll need time to remove the ride and then prep the land for whatver goes there next year. I don't see that happening just yet as there havn't been any zoning requests that I'm aware of for new rides for the park. Another major problem I see with beginning demolition of SM now is that a large part of it's lift & theme structure(the skull) cross over/sit really close to wild one, they'd have to shut the coaster down for this demolition to take place & I don't see them doing that this early.

But that gives the park the incentive to run the rides at lower capacity in an attempt to make the paid line jumping system seem more effective. One thing I'll never forgive six flags for doing with regards to their line jumping system is that during my last year as anSFA passholder the park went so far as to reserve one entire train on S:ROS for flashpassers only & if nobody showed up they would send that train out empty & this annoyed the crap out of those who were waiting in the station & had been waiting long enough to get on the ride. -

Couldn't agree more,on my last few rides last weekend it was crazy air during the 2nd half of the course....thank heavens for lap belts as I definitely came up between the inside edge of the lap bar & seat divider on more than one occasion. Now that's the way a good woodie should be!!! -

For the love of humanity no!!!! I'd HATE to see paid line jumping systems in place at KD. -
Most Notable Accident
KDCOASTERFAN replied to dropthefloor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
He wasn't intoxicated,he was just stupid in his behavior while on the ride & sadly it cost him his life.I'm not entirely sure if the kid on galaxi was thrown from the car due to no restraint or if he stood up on his own(I never rode it when it was at KD) so I'm not sure about the seating arrangement or rstraint system of the ride but it's possible that the forces exerted by the ride could've ejected him from the car. -

Perhaps we'll get a windseeker plus the DA? it worked for KI after all so why not KD? -

Funny you should mention the DT incident back in 99 as it happened the same weekend that the guy was thrown & killed on Shockwave at KD. -

Well they're already seeing huge attendance increases with the SSS & NOF attractions added this year, shoot it was another one of those half hour waits just to get out of the season pass lot this past saturday with another 45 minutes to get out of the main lot as the park was packed. I think that we'll see another thrill ride next year but probably not a coaster just yet & don't think that the DA attraction would be a good fit or enough for the park. -

The reason I'm bring this up was the fact that I was inside WATER WORKS on my way to BIG WAVE BAY and I was thinking about all the extra land that lies around that area. If I'm not mistaken ( but I am usually am, so sue me), it's been a while since Cedar Fair put any new water slides inside WATER WORKS, plus I noticed that they took a water slide out (it's the two enclosed pipes that twist around each other and no I'm not sad they took it out - don't sue me for that!). Do you think that the next big attraction for 2012 could be a brand new water slide attraction for WATER WORKS??? Well, it's just a thought to ponder. "Are you done? Good, now get back to bed! Could be? however didn't they take that out last year? There's not much that can fit in that tiny space, besides with the new CEO in place is there a possibility that whatever Kinzel had planned may be cancelled or at least put on hold? only time will tell. -
Same with SFA's ROS & I305. I can only imagine how bad the ops are now feeling knowing that someone has died on their watch...I spoke to someone at KD two weeks ago who was on duty at Shockwave when they had the accident in 99 & of course you have to wonder with each train you send out do they ever fear that a train is gonna return with one,or more seats empty due to someone's mistake in letting someone on who isn't capable of riding safely or just the guest's own foolishness(as was the case with Shockwave)?

SFA's standup that was replaced by Batwing, along with a whole list of rides that were approved by the county that the park ultimately never got thanks in large part to SFI's focus on SFMM,SFGRAM & SFGRADV over the past ten years. -

Aren't we forgetting something here?Busch still has an exclusive deal with B&M prohibiting any other US parks from installing a DM for a set period of time. What's wrong with CP getting a floorless? Since Dominator left the state perhaps many peeps in the region may welcome such a ride? -

The Most Shocking Ride Removals
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I so miss AT & would love to have it back...it was installed in 76,not 75 however.I cannot figure out why they took it out as there were no injuries/deaths associated with it to my knowledge & with this ride operating to this day in other parks it couldn't really have been a maintenance issue with this specific installation could it? -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Galaxi was removed due to a fatal accident in 1983,not because it was an outdated ride.As for LWFM being replaced by wht,IMHO is a boring excuse for a suspended coaster it had more to do with the rides contained within being outdated & possibly hard to maintain & in the long run it was time for something new. I'll never understand why SFAW had to close myself when, if SFI had just spent time & money on new rides instead of just throwing rides like they were candy to their "favored parks" they could have continued seeing a profit & maybe brought back some of the guests that they'd lost over the years especially since SFAW became the SF dumping ground for old, outdated rides that the other, bigger SF properties no longer wanted.GL was a lost cause when SFI chose to stop investing in it & chose to sell it leaving the new owner(in this case CF) with a big mess to try & "clean up",which as we know now wasn't successful. -
For some reason a few CF owned B&M's just aren't running smoothly anymore...Dominator has developed a horrid rattle lately that really makes for a rough ride, especially in the back.I hear you on the backlot rides too as I really geta kick out of riding KD's but don't really get the chance lately seeing as the ride has been so busy as of late. Have you had a chance to see KD's SSS yet? They did a good job on the lighting package for ET as well as the area in general.
