Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Mozart67 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't, as a general rule, do water rides, but it looks like a blast. My opinion isnt worth much on the subject, but the point is to have fun. If you need wetness that bad, go swimming. Anyway, just my take. Have fun -

Scott's Coaster Closet
Mozart67 replied to SeaWhippet's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Man..everyone has these wistful recollections of how great Joyland's coaster was; I wish I had one...that didnt involve needing a Percoset or something. And it's not because my back is weak or anything, I dont think, because I dig SLC's, among other things. Guess I was just unlucky or rode the wrong bench. Great collection of photos Scott -

Bg, well done! The photos are amazing and I think really encapsulate how formidable a collection of coasters CP has. Again, great job and thanks for the bird's-eye view! Scott -
PTR: Florida State Fair 2/15/2009
Mozart67 replied to WillMontu's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Will, I think "no club colors" refers to no open gang insignia, such as red or blue bandanas tied around an arm or a leg (that's Bloods and Crips, respectively, I believe..not sure). It could also entail motorcycle clubs as well, their colors being represented on the backs of their denim or leather jackets (Satan's Slaves, Bandidos, Warlocks, Red and White, etc.) Deep Fried Pepsi...blech..I mean it's Pepsi, so it was bad to begin with... If it was Deep Fried Vault, though, NOW we're talking Scott -
Vekoma Pandora's Box
Mozart67 replied to Mechanic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How bizarre. Any thoughts on what the projection side of the show might be? I've had anything from a version of "Days of Thunder" to a ride version of "The Miracle of Life" running through my head. (the latter being a li ttle scary) -

God, Disney Paris is gorgeous. Since I haven't been to a Disney park for about 25 years or so, this may sound silly, but how does the Aerosmith ride fit in with the general Disney theme?

You have 2 kids and you're not dead?? Props to you, Crispy. I raised 2 and I am SO dead

LOL that was awesome. I can see it now: The Dodge Urea, first pee powered car.

wow..I did musical theatre for 20 years, so my picks may be a little odd. Here goes: Jerry Springer: the Opera Rent Sunday in the Park with George Spitfire Grill Ruthless: the 20th Anniversary Director's Cut Children of Eden There and Back Again (the one I wrote with my wife, which is "The Hobbit" set to Celtic folk, jazz, and funk; cross your fingers...) Lay Mizz West Side Story oh, and Hidden Sky

god..do raves count?

Yes, I OD on them whenever I can. Do you like "Heroes"?

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Mozart67 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great looking pics, Robb, although I have to say I wouldnt know a daedman turnaround if it jumped up and bit me in the face. Having never ridden Psyclone, I dont have a reference for what everyone is saying; is it worse than the Cyclone at SFNE, which rides like the short bus on crack? Anyway, Termie is looking great. I checked RCDB and Happy Valley is slated for 2-3 more coasters to be installed, all steels (1 inverted, 2 or 3 sit-down). Could be Happy Valley since it is making its big splash now.

Favorite first drop on a Steel Coaster
Mozart67 replied to SpectralN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're going to laugh, but my favorite drop is a 3-way tie: SROS SFNE (still there) Turn of the Century Great America (sort of there) Orient Express Worlds of Fun (long gone) -
I always thought the blue running lights that paralleled the running of the trains at night was exceptionally cool. Back then, my favorite rides were either Willard's Whizzer or Turn of the Century, but from a visual perspective, the Wave at night (with lights on full) was just a very cool spectacle.

Singapore Flyer Fire Traps Tourists
Mozart67 replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
God..to be trapped in a gondola on a wheel over 500 feet tall... I hope they get the Flyer squared away, though. At an estimated price of nearly $180,000,000 US, that's a loss I dont think anyone could afford. This has nothing to do with the specific topic, but it boggled my mind to discover that ride tickets for the first 3 days the Flyer was open were sold out..to the tune of $6,271 per ticket. For what it's worth, mostly because my opinions were a little curt, I've been talking with friends I went to high school with that are now in business, finance, etc. in the Wichita area, and get some scoop on where Joyland stands now. I won't lie; the place creeped me out when I was there off and on from 84 to 94, and when I drove by it this past Feb., it still creeps me out, but that's my issue, not the park's. I havent lived in Wichita since 94, but I'm guessing the extensive vandalism is gang-related. When we moved from there, we had bullet holes in our siding and we were in a heavy residential area... I'll see what i can dig up from the journalistic (and connected) perspective. Scott
