  1. Fahrenheit looks just fantastic! I hadnt planned on making it to Hersheypark this yeat (when gas will be ridiculous) but I just may have to break down and do it. I never knew this park had such exhilirating rides. Gonna hafta go now. Scott
  2. Most likely SFNE or Compounce, although the way my business is heading, it could very well be Astroland or SFGA.
  3. Hmm..I can't think of one specific one. I think it's a toss-up between Space Mountain when it opened at WDW or the ticket line for Metallica's "S&M" concerts in San Francisco. Both were great rides. Scott
  4. Happy Birthday Elissa!!! If I make it down to Coney next month (which shouldnt be difficult since I'm working in the City for a little), I'll grab you a rodent whatever..maybe even one from the sewers!! Mmm..now THERE'S a souvenir! Just kidding..that was kind of creepy. Hope you had a happy one! Scott
  5. That SO looked like a great time. and full-ride ERT at night, no less! I have hazy memories of when i used to go to the Mountain, but that's because of age, college, etc. What I do remember is that the place was awesome and here's to what looks like a new start! Bravo all involved with the change and I really look forward to 2009 when I will be able to go on a few trips! Salut! Scott
  6. I'm down..I'll send you a check for the deposit this week..dont care if I can afford it..put me down!! Scott
  7. It looks like I may be able to go on my first TPR trip after all. I'll contact you about payment sched and stuff when I get back from the debut later this week. (It went well, btw. Critics and audiences both enjoyed it, although attendance was a little anemic.) Thanks for being understanding funds-wise. I'll try to get my deposit in very soon! Scott "is finally a professional classical artist after 22 years of trying" Mayfield
  8. Well, darn! I was really hoping that Intamin AG would pick up on Wes' idea and develop the OhioDome in case of drizzle or incontinent birds. Now, if it rains or spits, I will have to theaten to flash everyone to keep the place open The Peanuts thing looks nice, though. Should be a great add-on and adjacent to the pointy thing, too. Side note: The trashcan thing is hilarious. I did notice that by bold-fonting the trash thing, it makes it look like it's more important than ride instruction manuals or food for the park. Funny
  9. Flight Deck. It could be worse, though. they could have called it "The Mighty Dangly" or something less dignified. I always thought Willard's Whizzer at Marriott's was a bad name when I was a kid..and when I grew up (figuratively speaking) one of the more Freudian names for a ride.
  10. Shane, Finally found the Marriott's section after days of looking. I dunno if I will ever change my screensaver from the TotC pic that's now on. I am amazed you found Tokyo BambiPark! er..my friends were sometimes weirder than I (which is saying a LOT), and for some reason, that was the pet name (kneeslap) for the place. On a different note, am I to understand that SF has taken out all of its parachute rides? The protoypical SF skyline was always 2 tall coasters, a skytower/derrick and the parachute tower. I know SFNE doesnt have one (they have Scream, which doesnt count) but the other parks took the rides out? Scott
  11. I can't remember how many trains were running when I went to MM back then, but I know GAR's queue line looked massive but before you knew it, you were onride. Sigh..Colossus racing..I take it from some of the comments I've seen that it doesnt race as much as it used to?
  12. Hobbes, I'm surprised at your disregard for "engineering" and "safety" considering your home park is Worlds of Fun, who had one of the most insanely so-not-safe coasters of its time and an engineering marvel at one time (XtremeRoller for the former, Orient Express for the latter.) When I rode XTR, you could see the cars jockey back and forth, from the ground, ervous chihuahuas as they went through the corkscrews.I guess I'm getting old and gronky, but safety is key for me. Theming..I can take or leave.
  13. I couldnt find the old topic where I mentioned my upcoming debut concert, as I think it was probably locked, which is perfectly fine by me. I just wanted to mention it and see what kind of response, etc. For anyone interested in seeing the person behind the weird font and bizarre comments on here (well..the musician, anyway; the real me is still a strange sort), the site is at www.cosmo.org. Thanks for allowing me to post this and I'll see you all when I get back on the 16th. Scott
  14. Excellent. Thanks, Robb! Scott
  15. OMG with the exception of the Temperance Seven and Mr. Blobby (how Freudian), I either know or have all of these songs. I need a hobby. 12/25/67 US: Beatles- Hello, Goodbye UK: Beatles- Hello, Goodbye (such variety...) AUS: Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)- Johnny Farham (LOL there's one I dont know..and dont want to) Mrs. Scott: 11/1 (she would kill me if I said what year she was born without asking if she minded..) US: It's a Spike Jones' song ("Cocktails for Two", I think) Mike (son) 8/29/81 US: Endless Love- Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (eeeew) UK: Japanese Boy- Aneka (not as gross, but not good either) AUS: Devo Live EP- Devo (I'm really jealous now) Beth (my other son, the tomboy) 1/18/1985 US: (LOL) Like A Virgin- Madonna (so am not going to say anything) UK: I Want to Know what Love Is- Foreigner (great song!!) AUS: Like a Virgin- Madonna (ha) Trivia: The details are still foggy (which is fine, because the last thing I want is gory details) but it has been said many times that I am the walking talking result of LSD, Ripple and Jimi Hendrix playing live at Monterrey Pop. Sorry if this is regarded as TMI; I kinda thought it was cool.
  16. That's sad. I discovered Pratchett through the Discworld game series on the Playstation, which were funny, but not really games, per se. I havent located any of his books here in dreary Conn., but he seems like a very gifted wit. Scott
  17. While I'm going to keep my opinion on the steroid version of the "Om, I'm telling" Report to myself (because it honestly is only my opinion, and a great many people have found it offensive), I think the report, in and of itself, is a fascinating example of how the war on drugs hasn't been won (nor will it ever; where there is demand, there is supply. common economics) but it has made inroads in places no one has expected. I can't speak from experience in the sports industry, but in professional theatre, there is a lot of what is known as "pick me ups." When you're performing 9 shows a week, every week, for 6-12 months, and your entire contract rides on every show, that sort of stress is dangerous if not debilitating. I'm not condoning the use of steroids or any controlled substance..at all. I do understand from a professional perspective though how stress, competitive industry, and planned obsolescence can drive a person to "pick them up."
  18. I had Blazin' recently when a friend of mine came back with a bottle of it. I thought I was going to die. I think the hottest I go besides my own Voodoo Wings (if I see any of you at SFNE or Compounce this year, I'll bring a batch up) is Pappy's Moonshine Madness, which has a great label that says "we're sure some chile heads will scoff and say ' this aint hot'- that's fine. keep in min these are the same people who think battery acid is a culinary treat." It's probably the hottest and most full-bodied hot sauce I have ever had. You can get it from the Old Farmer's Almanac Outlets or from Kentucky Cookout Company, Box 16, Westport, KY 40077 Scott
  19. Um, I'm a newcomer to anime, so this may be a little boring.. FMA Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi R.O.D.-The TV InuYasha (I know..I know..I shouldn't like it, but I do..) Fooly Cooly (weird) Last Exile (incredible) Those Who Hunt Elves I and II (way too funny) G.I.T.S. (mostly for the both series' theme songs, tho..Origa is a beautiful singer) and DBZ but only because I can do a spot-on imitation of Vegeta "while you were out lollygagging in the park, I was in the dojo doing SEVERE TRAINING!" oh, and Samurai Champloo Most hated: Naruto "I'm a ninja" "You can do it" god..shut up already I loved Lupin when I was younger but now I just cant even watch it Pocket Monsters Cromartie High ..and..it's not anime, nor anything even resembling entertainment, but the something and Eric Awesome Show on Adult Swim is beyond describing it's so bad.
  20. Arcade Gorf Pengo Gyruss Xevious Gauntlet Ms. Pac-Man (the super-speed version) Stun Runner Mario Bros. (the first one) Qix Missile Command Non-Arcade Tales of Destiny (PS1) Final Fantasy II (SNES) Phantasy Star (Sega Master System) Katamari Damacy (PS2) Adventure (Atari 2600) Arc the Lad Collection (PS1) Suikoden (PS1) Super Mario 3 (NES) Worms: Armageddon (PC) RCT 2(PC)
  21. God..there's so many.. The whole HeadOn/PreferOn/ThisOn/ThatOn series of "Adventures in Repeition" ads. It's like being trapped in a time loop with Rain Man. It's not just feminine protection ads that are annoying. The jock itch/male chafing ads are awful too. And what is the deal with tag-teaming them two or three in a row and airing them when it's dinnertime? Is that Madison Avenue's way of trying to curb American obesity? Any perfume/cologne ad where there's a guy who looks like he's one of "The 300" cast walking around in a morphine-induced state with abstract Fellini drapes, etc. Yeah, like wearing Egoiste or CK is going to make me look like that. All that will happen is I'll be the same but smellier. "When you need sporting goods or just a have a need, drop by Dick's!!" Dick's Sporting Goods is a chain out here and..I'm sorry. I'll pay twice as much at Foot Locker or JockMart or whatever so I dont have to hear "That's my Dick's!" ever again. The commercial for The Critter, the state-of-the-art disabled transport where the seniors are singing horrific versions of "You made me love you..I didnt want to do it." This ad has been known to cause sterility in everyone and terrorize small children. The drug side effect ads are funny. "Taking this drug may not alleviate symptoms, but may cause vomiting, blurred vision, webbed feet and death." "I have genital herpes." "I don't" "And we'd like to keep it that way." Can you imagine going to a screen test and proudly saying "I'm the GenniHerpy guy!!" Last one..I was in the doctor's office today and was flipping thru a Men's Fitness mag because the only other one there was Boy's Life, and..just, no. I flipped the page and in the middle of a Dolce & Gabbano ad for stylish Italian underwear (there's an image), is this guy, head in the background, crotchal area in the foreground with the caption "Irresistible!" under it. Some wonderful soul had written in black marker "BARF" just under it. Nothing else needs to be said.
  22. Okay, here's the thing. I think it's the ugliest waste of money and materials of all time (save for the Big Dig), and that it cost 2% of the entire country's GNP, but it's not really THAT bad. I mean..it's just the Transamerica Pyramid with a couple of unnecessary erection-looking parts stuck onto it. I can name 5 uglier places without thinking: The Cow Palace in SF, It's a Small World in WDW (sorry, that would be most annoying..my bad), Crowne Plaza in Oakland, the now-destroyed Allis Hotel in Wichita, and, well..the Pentagon.
  23. Midijunkies (edit)- Atari Teenage Riot..oops..it's done. Derb- Derb
  24. Sorry. Forgot something. (There's a surprise...) If you have already done something for Marriott's Great America (I can NOT call it Paramount or Six Flags, etc. it just seems...rapishly wrong), then ignore this. If you havent, I'd like to ask a favor. No one outside my age bracket that I know off offline believes that there was a Willard's Whizzer or that the Demon is the upgraded version of the Turn of the Century. If you could include that in your MGA post, I would like to rub it in..er...show them I'm not as loopy as they think. Thanks! Scott
  25. Shane..wow. Just wow. The last time I caught this thread was when it was on page 12. You have an amazing amount of park memorabilia and information! I try not to "overshare" because I'm legendary for it, but I have to share something that happened when I was reading the old Six Flags material. (No, I didnt see God, but Elvis says hi.) Anyway, I have had massive memory problems since the 80's and if I dont have a picture of it, I just dont remember much..of anything. I was reading the Six Flags and Magic Mountain posts, and for the first time in deecades, I was flooded with memories: Big Bend, Shockwave, Greased Lightnin, Judge Roy! (still one of my all-time faves), Runaway Mine Train, etc. I hadn't remembered..actually remembered most of these things in almost 23 years. I can't say how I felt after as it's kind of mushy and, well..you know. Anyway, I agree with whomever said this is the greatest thread ever, because it is. Better than "syphilis at the ghetto fair", better than Robb having orgasms on El Toro, even better than the infamous llama incident. It's not often you read something online or off that brings back memories you thought were lost over 20 years ago. Thank you! Scott
