David and I bought some SIX stock about 2 months before the market tanked mainly for the shear novelty of having the stock. SFoG is our home park, so it just seemed to be the cool thing to do. Now that we're official stockholders in the company and we've both pumped a good deal of research into the back-end of the company, I believe that they will bounce back. We as Americans need to give the market rescue some time to work. I won't go into all the mechanics because if you want to know, you can tune into CNBC or MSNBC or Fox Noise (yeah I meant to spell it that way) or whatever news channel you want to get the skinny. Personally my personal advocate in all this is Jim Cramer, but I digress. SF has some work to do for sure. The three big blights on the brand right at the moment are America, Kentucky Kingdom, and Jazzland. SFA is a shambles. They're poorly managed, the park looks horrible and the rides are in dire need of some love. Kentucky Kingdom... well, I won't beat that dead horse. The one blight that everyone seems to overlook is Jazzland. SF is fighting like all hell with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin to get out of the 75 year lease they assumed when they bought the park. It's just not economically sound for the company to re-open the thing because attendance was on a steady year-over-year decline from the moment they bought it. It's hell and gone from the major tourist traps in New Orleans and the insurance companies aren't paying out to SF from the Katrina damage. SF could solve about 25% of their problem if they could somehow resolve the Jazzland thing. Ray Nagin, however, has a responsibility to put the best interests of the city above that of business which he has consistently done. I guess he gets points for that, but in the meantime, SF is paying out money on a dead park in the form of Rent, Property Tax, Liability Insurance & legal costs to fight both The City of New Orleans and the insurance companies. Do I see Six Flags tanking anytime soon? No. They have enough inter-park communication going on among park presidents and directors of operations where they should be able to come up with a solution for most of their issues. I think they need to be following the leads of SFNE, SFGAd, and SFMM and they'll really pull it out of the dumper. Since we're now officially in the off season, I wouldn't look for SF to break the $1.00 mark anytime soon. Keep in mind too that they have until April before they have to start thinking about a reverse split which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Are you prone to experimenting with your PC?
generaleclectic replied to generaleclectic's topic in Random, Random, Random
^Okie... I guess I'm kind of a geek fail in that respect. LOL Too many years of trying to help the computer illiterate I suppose. It certainly doesn't help that I have reduced myself to coding in SQL all day long. That combined with trying to figure out strange ways of making .NetFramework 2.0 to do my bidding has made me a little dull. Anyways, I got the Kalyway Mac OS build on this laptop and it's frozen a couple of times. I'm restarting for the 3rd time while turning out some SQL code. -

WOW!!! Break Dance is listed at $299,000!!! I wonder if enough of us can pool resources together to buy it! This was one of the BEST RIDES at Coney Island! -
Hey Folks! I searched and searched and couldn't find where anyone had ever started a discussion about what interesting things have been done with a perfectly good, unsuspecting PC. Currently, I have a project started where I am attempting to assert Mac OS X Panther on an HP nx6310 laptop. I've already been through one build that didn't seem to like the Centrino architecture. I continually got this error message advising me to restart the machine. A Mac user told me that on the initial install of the OS, this was normal about 4 or 5 times. After 13 times, I moved on to another Intel build called Kalyway 10.5.2. At the time that I am writing this, I've got ~4 minutes left on the initial installation. Does anyone else have any interesting Frankenstein projects going with their PC?

Being my home park, it will always have a special place in my heart (especially the not so perfect rides). Since Astroworld is now nothing but a memory, it is the oldest SF. I would really recommend that everyone go to this park at least once. -
Stock Linux... But I'm getting the hang of it slowly.

Hey David... Mine and jynx242's thoughts and prayers are with you. We wish you a speedy recovery. Since it looks like it's going to be a while before KrazeKid can put his hit out on me, I'll loan you Guido. He would be more than happy to go over and "have a little chat" with the other driver. Maybe Title Fairy has some magic dust laying around that she can sprinkle over your leg and make it mend faster. Too bad she's a deity and not a doctor... Oh TITLE FAIRY WHERE ARE YOU IN OUR TIME OF NEED? Seriously though. Know that our thoughts are with you!!!

Hmmmm.... I nominate Title Fairy. -
I must have missed your post. If Little Amerricka is committed to making this work, then I applaud them and wish them the best. The only reason why I thought of Knoebels first was because I don't know a lot about Little Amerricka and what they hope to accomplish as a park. I, from having visited the Knoebels with the EC trip, believe that they are steadfastly committed not only to providing a fun place to go for families and kids, but also to the historic value of amusement rides. Nothing screams this idea more than their enthusiasm and dedication in their reproduction of the Flying Turns ride.

The only reason why I would not agree with a "forget Palin" strategy is simple. We (democrats) in 2004 didn't think that Bush would have a snowball's chance in hell of getting re-elected. Well, here we are 4 years later. Never underestimate the power of the ill-informed and under educated in mass numbers. Most people in this day and age tend to gravitate towards that which makes them feel warm and fuzzy, no matter what the message is. Palin, for whom I will reserve my own derogatory comments, is an excellent public speaker and possesses the power to influence idiots on a colossal level. Hell! She even had getting closer to the TV even though I'm a fairly well educated man an know better. You know... being a gay man myself, I've resigned myself to the fact that "gay rights" will be a long, hard fought battle. The gay community is going to have to rise up in unity and make declaration and notice with one voice. We should all be focused on making sure that we don't set ourselves back 50 years where basic human rights and health is concerned. To declare all abortion to be bad abortion is to revert back to a time prior to Roe vs. Wade where women were going to back alleys and rouge doctors. To deny that sex education needs to be taught in schools is just as bad. Palin is looking/sounding more like an antagonistic & militant Donna Reed every day. -
I'm just seeing this thread for the first time. I seriously closed my office door and wept a little. To see this happen to an old favorite is truly devastating. Is there such a thing as a theme park preservation society? Something else that occurs to me... I know they have their hands full with Flying Turns at the moment, but does anyone else think there is a place where Knoebels would be in a position to try to obtain at least ONE of the trains and the plans so that a clone could be built at some point? I know we're about 20 years too late for deconstruction and relocation. The only reason why I pose this question is that it appears that Knoebels is really good at what they do in the way of engineering and historic preservation. With GCI right around the corner, there's a place where cloning this old favorite could be an interesting project for them as well. I guess my geek flag is flying high because I weep for a coaster that I never had the opportunity to ride.

Not just talking about my spelling and grammar. Just basically all-around coaster nerdinesss, he always finds a way to beat me at everything! Oh well... Most people on here spank me in that respect. 85% of what I know about theme parks and donkeys, I learn from just reading the board and listing to Jynx242. 'Tis better to observe sometimes. I know where you're coming from though.

I had never heard of one before! Apparently David had.... He's such a Jew. If he is the Messiah, he'd better be careful. Title Fairy doesn't like it when other gods are worshiped before her. LOL -

I'm mildly interested in this technology myself. Is anyone else doing this or planning to do this? This is F A N T A S T I C!!! It'll sure cut down on spastic parents. It's nice to see that HW has a balance of being able to tie attractions and relevant amenities. -
