Shane's Amusement Attic
RIP Psyclone replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Shane, as a long time fan and supporter of the "Attic," I just wanted to say it was a long summer without it! I for one am glad season 2 has started, and I know I speak for most. Keep up the good work! -
Theme Park Review's 2008 Asia Tour!
RIP Psyclone replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yes, yes we do. From what I've read, Balder cost around the equivalent of a mere $10 million. Anyone know what El Toro cost? It has been said that El Toro was approved by the previous Six Flags CEO when he was already basically on the way out--a lame duck, if you will. The current Six Flags management is not about to approve of a project of that cost and magnitude anytime soon, so I guess we should just be happy with what we're getting. As nice as it will be to have a perfectly good GCI coaster, one can't help but wish we could have had a little more. -

If you haven't already seen the POV recreation, you simply must. It's amazing. -

It's understandable when an old coaster at a major, popular park has outstayed its welcome and reached the end of its lifespan. However, it's nice when a smaller, perhaps more rural park purchases a second-hand coaster. For example, Corkscrew from Knott's. While on the subject, was there not a park in the world that could have taken SFGAm's Shockwave off their hands? -

I think the El Toro portion should have maybe had one more hill, and the Balder portion could have maybe been a little shorter. But, T Express is a coaster that has pushed the envelope, so naturally the song for the video pushes it as well. -
Which California Park??
RIP Psyclone replied to darque's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, Knott's, definately. Although distance wise, Universal would take the least amount of time in terms of LAX -> Universal -> Pasadena. Magic Mountain has too much to do and you'd be frustrated not being able to do it all. Knott's shouldn't be very crowded since most people wouldn't be going until the event at night. You should be able to get on most, if not all of the major rides as well. -

With Casino Royale 2 years ago, I think they wanted to avoid comparisons with the 1967 Casino Royale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O5aA83GfYc And I think "Quantum Of Solace" as a song title just doesn't roll off the tongue. -

My favorite, On Her Majesty's Secret Service: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRpHpJ7FCHU -
I think it's more fun backwards, the drops are more thrilling. I don't think it's any rougher because of the Psyclone trains. They probably had to modify them to run on Colossus, maybe even as far as swapping the wheel assemblies. Remember, the only reason they use Psyclone's trains is because they have headrests.

If it is in fact closed for good, I'm glad I finally got to ride it this year. It was easily my 2nd favorite coaster in Nevada, first being Desperado, which, despite some roughness, I still think is fun--great 1st drop, and a few airtime hills. As for Speed, it was very fun, a great 1st launch, and an even better (and unexpected) 2nd launch. Should it be removed, it will be missed. This would prove the 3 most important things in real estate are location, location, location, if Manhattan Express continues to thrive and Speed is going the way of the dodo.

The "And I'm spent" girl looks a little like Juliana...from that distance, at least. Come on, it's been too long since there's been a mention of her! -

Chick-Fil-A is run by Mormons, and is closed Sundays. Just thought I'd point that out. Oh, and good stuff, Antonio! It makes me wish I went to the fair, or at least one of the major 3: SD, OC, LA. -

What are some loud rides and coasters?
RIP Psyclone replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dodonpa: Very intense launch, and listen to the sound the train makes as it passes in the 2nd video.
