  1. Do you really think they can break the length record? Really long coasters take incredible amounts of real estate, something CP doesn't have a lot of. I've been on 8 of the top ten longest coasters (I'm missing California Screaming and Ultimate) and have seen first hand just how big Steel Dragon is in person. If CP was to do this, the WWL site is only the beginning of where construction would take place. Winter construction for a coaster of that magnitude could cover a LOT of the rest of the park! Now, I think what CP might be up to is to break the number of coasters in a park record. Even a small twin coaster would (counting Gemini as two) bring them to 18, one more than 6FMM's 17 (counting Tatsu and SBNO Flashback). This certainly fits in with the long rumored dueling flyers, and tops MM's Tatsu a mere year later. I'm no CF fan, but if the dueling flyers is in fact what they are prepping for, I think it's a lot better idea than breaking the 500 foot height line with another cranky and temperamental ride. That's my $0.02, what do YOU think?
  2. Hmm, I took that Supersonic Odyssey POV with a digital camera in movie mode. Did you think it came out bad or heavily pixelated? Robb know the one huge mistake I made, but he was nice enough to fix it for me. Thanks for turning my video right side up, Robb! Can anyone tell me how to reduce the size of my videos to fit within the 30MB limit in the Videographers thread? (That Q could have been posted in so many places!)
  3. While BBW has the best drop, and Hayabusa actually has some great first drop / back row air, I feel that Vortex is the best overall experience.
  4. CFC, You have reminded me that this sad and pathetic soul is not alone in the world of attending amusement parks solo. These places cause small sparks of enjoyment along with crushing depression of no one to share the experience with. You have inspired me to put forth my own sad photo tales in this forum. First shall be a sadder than normal experience at a closed amusement park in Korea. Then a construction update from Fuji-Q methinks.
  5. My (Little Mermaid obssessed) wife would be upset to see that you spelled Ariel's name wrong.
  6. 6FKK wasn't even terribly crowded when I attended on a Saturday the week of the Derby. I dallied around and re-rode a few coasters and was still ready to go in about 4 hours. What's the drive time between the two parks supposed to be like?
  7. I thought of something. Fuji-Q is pretty close to Mt. Fuji, less than 5 or ten miles from the crater. Most vulcanologists (volcano scientists) consider Fuji to be extinct or dormant, while the Japanese insist that it is active. This "activity" would include local seismological events. The 'extra' supports may be due to the proximity of the volcano as much as Japan-in-general's seismic activity.
  8. ^ I suspect he may not have a program that can 'dumb down' his photos so that they fit under the 150kb / photo requirement of the site. Honestly, I went a year without posting photos here for the same reason. I ended up paying for PhotoImpact based solely on Duane M's recommendation. I am certain there are folks here who can recommend cheaper alternatives.
  9. It's been a LONG time since the time I caught a city bus to DisneyLand, if I remember correctly, the city bus stop is at the Disneyland Hotel, right? That's pretty important to point out. Also, from that same trip, the bus stopped running pretty early, and my friend and I ended up getting kicked off Disney property and having to walk to the Greyhound station. It is a hike just to walk around the Disney perimeter!
  10. WOW! Thanks Gutterflower! Did you take those? It really looks like they need to dig a trench under the outside raven turn. It almost looked like they had slowed down a bit, but now I see that they have been very busy indeed.
  11. Can they just please announce the name of this thing already? Unless they are actually going to call it S&S 4D Coaster at Fuji-Q Highlands...
  12. This looks like a great addition to the park, and hopefully a foreshadowing of more to come. Now, if the day I go ride the Fuji-Q 4D is that dead, I'll be all set.
  13. Straight line distance, Surf Coaster (TOGO) at Hakkejima Sea Paradise is 4.26 miles from my house and 2.95 miles from my work. I can't see the coaster from work, but I can see the dolphin show pyramid, the Intamin observation tower and the 2nd tallest Intamin drop tower in the world, Blue Fall from my 'office' window. It takes about 20-30 minutes to drive depending on lights and traffic, a little longer by train. I've only been three times in three years.
  14. This turned out surprising to me. Off the top of my head, I only immediately remembered three. Then I looked at everybody else's lists and ended up at the following: I remembered: Mystery Mine (Adv Asia) Firefly (Benson's) Kiddy Coaster (CLP) You reminded me of: Rockin' Rider (CLP) Flitzer (York's) Wildcat (MFI) Galaxi (Pirates) Orient Express (Pirates) Double Loop (Fuji-Q) Flying Fish (Thorpe) King Kobra (PKI) Orient Express (WoF) Wild Maus (BGW) Hercules (DP) Whirlwind (Knoebels) Viper (6FGAdv) Scooby Doo (PKI) Wind Jammer (KBF) Wacky Soap Box Racers (KBF) Lightning Bolt (MGM) Status uncertain: Wildcat (WG) Cyclone (WG) Hayabusa (Tokyo Summerland) 26 is a far cry from 3! I wonder how many more I can't remember!
  15. Adding insult to injury... how horrible. Anyways hope you'll get to remain in Japan long enough to ride this. Then you can go ride Superman:Escape. I suspect that you were being a little sarcastic, Gnome, but I feel that I need to dispel any beliefs you or anyone else may have that my experience in the Navy is all Rollercoasters and fun. Yes, I have gotten to live in Japan for three years, and this has provided me an wonderful opportunity to see a lot of neat stuff, visit lots of amusement parks and meet my lovely wife. I also spend a LOT of time out to sea, actually more than 50% of the year is spent away from home. That means I can't see my wife, sleep in my own bed, eat what I want, sleep when I want or even watch what I want on TV. When I go to sea this summer, yes, we are scheduled for a stop in Australia, a stop in Singapore, one in Thailand and another in Japan. That's four stops in nearly four months, each for only 3 or 4 days, one or two of which are work days. All those other days at sea are work days, often 16 hours a day or more. So, yeah, in 14 years I've visited 41 countries, but many were on my own time and my own dime. I'm 33 years old, and I've been in the Navy for more than 40% of my life. When they make me go home in a few years, I'll have given over half of my life to the Navy. So if you think it's been all fun, I'm sorry to say that it hasn't. I've had to give up a lot. If you are thinking that joining the Navy or any other branch of Military service is a great way to see the world, it is, but it has a lot of down side, too. As for riding the new Superman, I'd love to, but as my ship is very unlikely to be visiting the east coast of Australia in the southern hemisphere's winter, and the restrictions placed upon us in port can get rediculously strict considering we're grown men and all, it is highly unlikely I'll be riding any coasters while I'm there. /end rant. I'll be making my final trips to Fuji-Q and DisneySea in September for the 4D and Tower of Terror. I am still hoping to make another construction update in April, and maybe a trip to Parque Espana, too.
  16. As much as I enjoy SOME of Robb, Elissa and companies' antics, I actually prefer the videos that show off more of the rides and the park itself. I'm a POV junkie, raw or with music though, so I come down about 75% POV and off-ride footage to 25% park atmosphere shots including gags and antics. My problem is simply not having a bunch of peeps to go to parks with! My videos are either POV's or very, very boring! Dumb sailors, always wanting to go drinking and whoring and fighting!
  17. Actually, TOGO (of all companies) actually has a few Wild Mice out here that have inversions. R&E actually really enjoyed the one at Tobu Zoo. I thought it was just OK, but I did still catch a few rides on it. There's one of these in Sapporo that has a corkscrew, too. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is don't bash a guy too hard because he's a newbie. We were all newbies once, and we all make mistakes even as die hard enthusiasts.
  18. Hey, Darren! I am visiting South Korea in a few days. Do you know anything about Sorak Waterpia? I am looking for operating hours, but neither google nor babelfish are having much luck translating the website while I am at sea. I am pretty certain I will need to take a taxi as the train stops pretty far from the resort. If you can help, that'd be great!
  19. As much as I love coasters and the idea of this, I don't really see it as being particularly educational. Yes, I know that it is representative of physics and mathematics are required to get it to work, but it's a one shot deal. Follow that up with the loss of the school gymnasium for the length of the project, and what happens to gym class? Sorry to be a party-pooper!
  20. I am most looking forward to the EPCOT shots where you harrass Soren!
  21. Based on these tiny, but up-to-date photos, they have attached track to the outside raven turn, built up the supports for the top of the lift hill and extended the track further into the full-full. The station has also gone vertical, and now looks pretty big in these little pictures. The seemingly out-of-order assembly now makes sense to me, as the construction is occuring from the front of the park and moving towards the back. By the time I get there in April, the full-full should be complete and track should be climbing down the lift hill. I can't wait! I wish I knew when this sucker was opening so I could count down to the day I finally get to ride a 4D coaster. Sadly, I think I'll be in Australia about the time it is supposed to open.
  22. I like some, but my tastes run a little on the lighter side: Love Hina Chobits Ai Yori Aoshi Teacher, Please I grew up on Starblazers, and I also enjoy the work of Miyazaki-san.
  23. I wonder if the Scream Heaven guys will get an update up soon. I can't get out there for about two more weeks. The full-full should be done but the webcam is pointed in a terrible angle.
  24. So, the day has come and gone. The whole world is waiting to know how Soren's first day at work went. (OK, just the TPR world.)
