OOh, seeing Pyrenees there on Robb's list makes me even MORE excited to be visiting Parque Espana next month! I'm staying on property, so I hope to get many rides in on it. Incidentally, I'm not really a big fan of CP. I agree that they have a large collection of nice coasters, but MF and Blue Streak are the only two I really like. I like MF's speed (and floater air) and BS's fun. Aside from that, meh. I'd rather ride... Linear Gale than Wicked Twister Riddler than Mantis Talon than Raptor Vortex (PCW) than Iron Dragon Trailblazer than Cedar Creek Mine Ride Trace du Hourra than Disaster Transport Excalibur (VF) than Gemini Steel Force than Magnum White Cyclone than Mean Streak Dodonpa than Dragster Gadget's Go Coaster than Woodstock's Express Corkscrew and Wildcat are clones They won't let me on Jr. Gemini, so it may be the park's true hidden gem. They let ACE on it, maybe that's why ACE likes CP so much... Hmmm... Give me Space World, Busch Gardens Euroburg, Europa Park or Busch Gardens the Dark Tampica over Cedar Point any day.

Best Drops....
rollermonkey replied to BiCoastal Kid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmmm, I've been thinkin' 'bout this one for a fair bit, and here's what I came up with: First time I rode T-Bolt at Kennywood, I was a single rider and I got shunted into the back row. It was really crowded and I didn't have a moment to look around. The first drop caught me more than a little bit by surprise! A real moment if ever I had one! Jack Rabbit's double down also hit this list in my mind. Looking straight down into the spiral for that one moment on Dragster. The first drop on Thunder Run at 6FKK. "Why's there a turn at the bottom!?!" S:RoS at Darien Lake after dark when the fog is thick: Where's the bottom? Desperado: We're going into that tiny hole, way down there? -

Favorite Togo coaster (is it Bandit?)
rollermonkey replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You didn't get to Hanayashiki? It's in Tokyo (Asakusa-ku) right near the big Buddhist temple Asakusa-kannon. The weird coaster running around the edge is the oldest coaster in Japan and the very first TOGO. If you liked the one at Toshimaen, you'd like this one, too. -

Now I understand why there's that circular frame in the corners of a lot of your pictures. I'm looking forward to your video. -

I miss San Benedetto The' al Limone. I used to drink a liter or more every day I lived in Italy! I know I'm going to miss CC Lemon when I eave Japan.

Hey there, Grasshopper, you need to slow down, take a deep breath and relax for a second. People are trying to help you. Take it slow, write down the name of the file you are saving. Save it to the desktop, or a personal download file, that you know where it is. OK? Better?

Fuji-Q Highlands Discussion Thread
rollermonkey replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know, 30 million dollars seems like a lot for a Flashback of their own... The (6F) Magic Mountain of Japan, indeed! Maybe the announcement will come duriing Golden Week? (It's the first week of May this year.) -

OK, that's definitely worse than my trip to Escape Theme Park in Singapore. At least ETP had a 60% operating rides percentage. Is the coaster train missing an entire wheel assembly!?! All those giant pieces of concrete look like broken riprap. (It's used to make breakwaters in ports.) For those who like to complain about ANY park in the US, you can stop now. Actually, there's lots of little parks outside the US, while not quite THIS bad, that are scary and sad. -
Fuji-Q Highlands Discussion Thread

Hey, Okinawaboy, I noticed you asked me if I'm stationed at Yokosuka. I thought my profile and that little location statement over there < gave it away? Unknown S&S4D @ Fuji-Q rocks! Woo hoo! I'm pretty surprised that even though there's been no official announcement by the park yet, (The Fuji-Q staff won't talk about it on the phone or in person, it's hysterical to point at it and say "Naann desu ka?" (what is it?) and get blank stares or "Wakkanai." (I don't know) when I'm there.) they have the webcam and the update photos on the official Japanese language website. -
Eurosat at Europa Park
rollermonkey replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am , but isn't that an 'eggbeater' lift like the Zamperla Volare coasters have? Eurosat whelmed me. Euromir, on the other hand, I'm in love with! -
Here's three I like, in no particular order. I've got a cool woodie picture, but it's at home I've not been on this one yet, but I've always been a fan of this train. Now we need twins to drag race... Katun. Possibly the coolest looking B&M train, but WTF's with the stargates? Mad Mouse, Pleasure Garden, The Joe Cool of wild mice.

I think this one turned out pretty good. Want to see the rest? Here they are: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21000&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=304 No name, but a nice picture, IMHO. -
Nara Dreamland closing
rollermonkey replied to PKIDelirium's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I started recieving e-mails about this a few days ago. Aska has been up for sale for about 18 months. In related news, White Cyclone (Nagashima Spaland) was listed for sale about the same time. I don't know what's going on with WC. This puts it in line with that two year period mentioned up there^. I really enjoyed Aska, but I don't think that it will be saved, unless it leaves Japan. That's just my opinion, though. WC was pretty boring, especially considering how huge it is. It was my #400, though. Yup, always sad to lose coasters and all that, but Nara Dreamland is no big loss, except for the weirdness factor. I would not be surprised if WC's listing was to test the waters. If it goes, there will only be 4 woodies in Japan, and that's the real story here. -

Wrebbit-san, I'm not actually Japanese, I'm just a gaijin. However, I've lived in Japan almost three years. I suspect that after I'm finished up with the Navy in about 5 years, I'll be returning to Japan. Like any other language, Japanese has it's quirks. I'm not by any stretch fluent, in fact, I'm embarrassed by how much I don't know. Pronunciation for westerners is considered easy, as it is a non-tonal language. The vocabulary gives me fits sometimes, and my principle tutor (my wife) finds it funny. (I never give her grief when she complains about the difficulties of English, but she teases me mercilessly that I haven't mastered Japanese.) I will admit that I had more success learning Italian in the two years I lived there, but Latin forms the basis for both Italian and English, so it's considerably easier. If you really want to learn Japanese, there are lots of options. Find a teacher, a book, tapes, cd's, or a computer program and dedicate yourself. I think that when learning a new language, there's a "hump" you have to get over. It took me about a year and a half to get over the hump in Italian, and I haven't gotten over it yet in Japanese. I know that once I do, it will get easier. Don't be discouraged by my personal example, either. I may live in Japan, but the Navy keeps me away from home more than 60 percent of the time. It seems every time I come home, I have to catch back up. Good luck! -
Favourite small park
rollermonkey replied to Scott's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm somewhat meh on Hanayashiki, but I really like Arakwa Yuen. They took out the unique Meisho coaster for a wacky worm, but it still has a delightful atmosphere. How many parks feature a wading stream and a fishing pond? On a weekday it's tranquil, on a Sunday you can't hardly move for all the kids and their young parents. -
Need some help with TPR streaming video
rollermonkey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmmm. Neither option is working for me today. Our connection is pretty shoddy this week. (I'm out to sea.) I couldn't stream it, in fact I never saw the play button. Download time was over two hours, which is longer than I'm willing or able to wait. Typically, at home I prefer to download. At work, streaming is usually better. Often, I just wait until I get home to download. End result: One vote for Download! -

Nagashima Spa Land
rollermonkey replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
PM me and I'll get you exact travel info (Trains, buses, etc.) It's a pretty big park, with a lot of rides. There's also a largish waterpark that's safer since SD2K isn't running. I've got park maps at home if you want a full list of what's there. Oh, they also have Japanese onsen. (Hot springs spa) -

Back on the topic of the S&S4D, there's a new panoramic shot at the Fuji-Q website. They've added some track to extend the outside raven turn. Here's the link: http://www.fujikyu.co.jp/fuji-q/information/whatsnew_index.html -

Disney World 5th gate; a dream?
rollermonkey replied to Ghost's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would like them to come out with DisneyAir. Maybe that'll be the third Tokyo Disney Resort gate someday. Get it? DisneyLand, DisneySea and DisneyAir? Walk through the clouds, visiting with Peter Pan, Dumbo and anybody else who can fly in the Disney lexicon.
