Australia's Luna Parks (Melbourne & Sydney) PTRs
Jds03 replied to packfanlv's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wow that looks so much fun! I wish some American parks would realize that you don't always need multi-million dollar rides to entertain people, You could just get some sheet metal and make random slides around that park! -
AHHHHH!!!!! I was just messing around with markers to experiment color variations before i put it down on the art thing i was working on, when i realized it was on top of it and the markers bled though onto the piece i had been working on! My head hurts now because i mashed it on my desk.

Nice classic drop tower. Those things are feakin awesome. Is the entire park made out of little islands connected by bridges?

Red Bull Cola I just discovered Red Bull's newest product at the grocery store yesterday, and tried it today. Basically if anybody remembers "Jolt Cola" this is the same basic concept as an energy drink that tastes like Coke or Pepsi, but the twist on this is that not only does it energize you, but its also completely natural. You can even read the back of the can. They put in the most random ingredients, like Orange, lemon, lime, cinnamon, cloves, pine, liquorish, vanilla, even mustard seeds! And it doesn't have any weird energy chemicals , just caffeine from coffee beans. Its sort of weird, but i guess i like it. I think I'd prefer original Red Bull over this, but whatever. It's an alternative.

AHHHHHH!!!!!! Please accept this gift title fairy!!!! Forgive me for my sins!!!!!!

Yeah, Gawzi's a really great ride. When i rode it it was incredible because it was last year during Christmas break, right in the center of the off season. It was like giving a glass of ice cold water to a guy dieing in the desert.

YES! My sycophathic Disney hating side has earned me a reputation on TPR! Alright!

Thanks for those photos! They were really great quality! It's so nice to live near lots of parks. If i went in the middle of Donrey and SFGadv I'd probably more to Florida too!

Well i was impressed when i saw the corkscrew that intersected the pretzel loop. I thought it was impossible to have safe G-forces on flyers if they entered the corkscrew with rider's backs facing the sky, but yet again it looks like B&M has proved me wrong. I guess you could say Tatsu sort of has a corkscrew, but its much less pronounced than this one. That was probably the design that evolved into manta's corkscrew. I do agree with you though, their needs to be way more than a few flips and a pretzel loop. -

RCDB says it's using LSMs and not hydraulics. That's sort of interesting.... I guess electromagnetic launches are making a triumphant return! I remember when everybody thought hydraulics were the new age of launch mechanisms... It'll be neat to see how this turns out, and if Intamin will continue using LSMs or go back to hydraulics. -

Sorry if i confused anyone, but i didn't mean that as an analogy or anything. Quite frankly i don't think that you can give an analogy between B&M flyers and inverts because they were both completely different stories. When BTR came out it blew peoples minds, but when SUF and Air first arrived people thought it was neat but still needed better designs. What i mean by "like Batman the Ride" is that it will be fast and compact, and very unpredictable if you haven't carefully studied the layout. Basically I'm just saying that Manta is starting to show it can take B&M flyers to the level of excitement and awesomeness of previous B&M models. Oh and as for what Inverts would be like with Flying trains... Lets just say that with any layout, an invert with flying trains would probably create levels of whiplash and strain on the neck that it would leave most of your body paralyzed for a long time. The reason that B&M flyers use pretzel loops is so that you can go upside down by diverting the forces to push your head back into your seat. The pretzel loops was simply a way of making a vertical loop on flyers. Although you could do a vertical loop, you would need to enter it already back to the ground, just like vekoma flyers. The same goes for a cobra roll. -

Well, by "Simple" I'm sort of basing it off a comparison between what they've developed already (very clever and thoughtful innovations) and something they could do that would probably be easier than what they have already done. I'm just saying it would probably not be too hard for their development team to work out capacity issues if they put their mind to it, biased on what we've seen them come up with already. -

This is S&S's problem. They have the technology and neat ideas, but they just don't understand the concepts of ride capacity like B&M or Intamin does. They have the development team which can make groundbreaking rides like this, they just need to make them focus on increasing the amount of riders in each train. If they can make rides like this, i don't see why they can't do something that simple. -

I think its Daidarasaurus. You know, that really, really long ride that was originally two racing coasters but is now combined into one. i bet your only working on the first track right now, that's why it's hard to recognize. -
A very odd rumor has been brought up on Screamscape about a possible new division of the Six Flags industry. Now you may question why I didn't put this in the Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys section, and that's because oddly enough it doesn't have any relevance to those topics, as you can read in the following quote: Umm... well. I'm really not sure what to say. If this turns out to be true, it's just going to be another weird decision by Six Flags that will continue to confuse and amaze me. But who knows, this is just something that someone discovered in the trademark database. "Coaster Cuts" could mean anything... Maybe a new deli restaurant that specializes in cold cut meat sandwiches. MOD EDIT: Edited topic title just to shorten it a bit. - CTU Agent

I see where your coming from, because the layout is allot more compact and twisty than previous B&M flyers. I wouldn't say more intense though, I'd say it looks more fast paced and exiting than other B&M flyers. It seems to me that the past B&M flyers have only been able to create an experience similar to wave swingers; Its a fun ride and a nice way to feel the sensation of being swept over landscape and people and other things, yet it gets really boring after a while. With Manta, it seems that B&M has finally managed to get past the handicap on flyers, which is having awkward G-forces because of the unusual riding position. Now finally i think they're going to make flyers that are very fast, smooth and unpredictable, just like Batman the Ride. Its great to see B&M flyers reach more potential. -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Jds03 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
is Terminator Salvation the name of the new Terminator movie or something? I'm not really in tune with the new movie, i just know their making one. Either way, the name doesn't really matter that much to me. The layout is absolutely, mind nummingly , awesome and their hasn't been a single GCI coaster that hasn't been awesome on some level. That's enough to satisfy me. If Six Flags wants to name a wooden coaster after a movie involving steel, that's okay with me. -

Holy Crap! I never would have ever thought i would see an SLC that sexy. Too bad the ride experience probably wouldn't be. -

Yeah, i thought about what it would be like to combine the flying position with free swing in chemistry class, because the turns after Big Bad Wolf's finale drop are so awesome its almost an out of body experience! Then i thought what it would be like to put riders in a flying position during that. But then i realized what the G's would be like if we strapped flying seats to BBW, and well..... that would NOT be pretty. But when i saw this model i realized that their might be a way in the distant future, to make suspend flying coasters without killing people! Hahahaha, " Noise" and "S&S" are two things that come hand in hand. Those of you who were familiar with HypersonicXLC will know, especially from its notorious break run. -

Well, I'm glad phantom is getting some care, but then again i don't think this was absolutely necessary from a rider standpoint when i rode it this summer. Maybe it was structural problems with the track, and rust or something. If not i think I'd rather see them save their money... or make more phantom air hills! hahah could you imagine that? Three major layout changes on one coaster. How awesome would that be? -
Yes, i agree. And i also know i have my foot in my mouth right now, but sometimes certain Disney comments blow me over the edge, and i have definitely done that on other forums, and i knew it was a matter of time before i blew it here. Sorry if i offended anyone.

Coasters you have been on that are gone now
Jds03 replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Viper, SF Gadv Batman and Robin: The Chiller, SF Gadv Lazer: Dorney Park Dominator, X-flight, Head Spin, Villan, Double Loop, Big Dipper, Geauga Lake ( ok some are relocated, or still standing or whatever. I know, but they are still closed) -
I guess theirs a part of me that feels sad about seeing Lazer go, but then again, on the bright side it should get more use and enjoyment where its going, than in a corner of Dorney, where people will be drawn away to bigger rides like VooDoo and Steel Force. Am i late to this topic, or has it been confirmed that Lazer is going to the German fleet of traveling coasters?

That's exactly what came to my mind when i saw the video! Its so great to see more coasters with free swinging abilities. Its really a feeling on coasters that's completely unique. It feels almost more like flying than coasters meant to create the sensation of flying! Even though flying coasters are cool, and the positioning is awesome, they still don't have the natural, unpredictable feeling of free swing. maybe someday we can see a free swinging coaster in the flying position... sigh, childish dream. haha.
