  1. Ok, seriously, everyone needs to stop complaining about what this ride isn’t and just look at what its purpose was. This “park” if you will call it, did not ask S&S to go out and build a ride that will overtake Kingda Ka’s speed record. They wanted something fast, meaning a ride that will satisfy race car spectators who want a speed rush, and it just so happened that S&S was capable of engineering rides with speeds excess of 128 mph, so the race track figured they’d get as fast of a ride as they could. We’re all complaining because this ride doesn’t satisfy us, that’s because it’s not meant to. We’re coaster nerds, and this ride’s target audience is race car geeks. Sure it is a roller coaster none the less, but how else was this race track going to launch people to speeds excess 120 mph? I know we all think this ride is a one-trick pony, and that’s because it is. Really that doesn’t even mater; because it only has one purpose it does it phenomenally. So really stop criticizing this ride because it takes the record away from KK, or because it doesn’t satisfy all your coaster desires, or whatever. This ride is what it is, so deal with it, because complaining isn’t working.
  2. The same thing as Zorbeez only with a more annoying salesman. Is Billy Mays the greatest sales person of all time? (this question should be answered in all capps)
  3. This is proably the star of the show right here:
  4. Sarah Palin, She's also working on giving bad people clean coal technology . Should we drill, baby, drill?
  5. I can already picture the general public saying: "Hey, do you guys know that this one time a shark jumped into a waterslide and slid all the way down" I can almost garentee sometime when im at a waterpark i'm goign to hear a refrence to this.
  6. I have a new "heart warming" christmas stirp fresh off the grill. I finished less than 10 minets ago. I lack the ability to make a "politicly correct" christmas strip. So, as i said, i can't spend any time on comics untill January, but then there goign to come flying in.
  7. Pressure Zone, Beck
  8. Is Laser footage too recent? I have a few great shots of it that would be sad to see go to waste
  9. I have tons of these on my I-pod, except i have never head the Foggy song on Millennium force... I do know something you can straight up download free and perfectly legal is the original Millennium force theme, which you can get on cedar point's website here. Just look at the bottom of the page. Oh, and for what it's worth, the Crystal Method makes perfect coaster soundtracks. I have all three of their albums, and they are great!
  10. 4 G's lateral? Your joking right? This doesn't look that bad in this picture, but it's one of the worst lateral transitions I've ever been on. Laser was still awesome though... R.I.P.
  11. Well yeah, i agree with you too. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather see a helix of some sort with an air hill rather than a giant MCBR, but really I'm just trying to tell everyone why it's important to control the speed through the splash down.
  12. Haha, that's probably a scare tactic, right there. It would be interesting to actually find out which ride has taken the lives of the most cell phones.
  13. Did you hear that from an SheiKra Opp.? They tell people things like that to scare people into putting their stuff in a secure place. I remember at Gadv for a month one Kingda Ka Opp carried around this completely smashed phone telling people "this is what Kingda Ka does to cellphones"
  14. Well personally i think the true purpose of the splash effect is really just a crowd pleaser and is meant to catch people's attention and get them in line or exited for the ride, not really much to be enjoyed while on the ride itself. At least with the two Busch Divers it is, because you really can't see the jets anywhere while riding because the restraints prevent you. But I guess with Manta you will be able to see it biased on the preview pictures, but nobody really knows as of now. It might just be one little fin at the back of the train and not on each of the left wing tips. But really, i think the true relationship between the MCBR and the splashdown is really just cause and effect if you think about it: No MCBR= Faster speed in splashdown = Stronger unbalanced forces on the train= more stress on the train structure and joints = more down time = less ride time
  15. Any picture of Manhattan Express was destined to be here. This is also a pretty worthy candidate. Togo heart liners.... Gotta love 'em
  16. Well, that's exactly why they need the MCBR. To make sure the wing dip isn't a big factor like it wold be if the train just whooshed through it
  17. With Manta it's all about balance since only one side of the train is dipping in the water. With rides like Griffon, Sheikra and Diamondback it's not quite as important to control the speed because both sides are receiving the same amount of negative force from the water, because they enter the splashdown flat and there are skimmers on both sides of the train. Also, their is a ton of force from the train sending that much water into the air, and if you carefully notice, Griffon and Sheikra both slow down a bit as a result of going through the splashdown, since the force is powerful enough to slightly slow down something as massive as a Dive machine car. If Manta were going to fast through it's splashdown, it would slowdown one side of the wheels and not the other, resulting in the framework of the trains to go under stress, and require more maintenance. Controlling the speed means making sure the train has only the amount of stress from the splash that B&M designed the trains to handle.
  18. Everyone has to get "Shoe thrown at Bush" gear! http://shop.cafepress.com/bush-shoe?CMP=CJ-CLICK-10463747
  19. That's what I thought it was for, but then it just made me think why couldn't they have added a helix or some sort of twist before the splashdown and let wheel friction take out the speed, or at least just put in a trim break. It just doesn't seem reasonable to me to put a massive MCBR in a layout this short.
  20. From the concept drawings it appears as if one end of the train will dip its wing into the water as it flies by, but I'm interested to see how exactly it's going to do that and not get riders wet and keep the train on balance. The whole idea of the wing dip has a ton of flaws, and i could definitely see them pitching it like Maverick's Heart line roll if it has too many issues, but if it works it's going to be really awesome. I guess we'll have to see what happens. it'll be be interesting.
  21. This ride really reminds me of Speed at Nascar Cafe. They both serve almost the same purpose, to satisfy race car junkies and tourists who are looking for a quick thrill like actual racing. If it weren't for the loop, Speed would just be a long track with some slight curves and turns, just like this ride just has one big turn around. The real thrill of both rides can be found in the launch and the extreme speeds, which is fine really, because neither of them are in true amusement parks.
  22. Don't you mean '09? I voted for Transformers 2. I thought the first one was going to be dumb like the kid's TV series, but it turned out incredible! And the special effects were amassing.
  23. I went to Costco today, it was disturbing. They should rename that place " an exhibit of the epic failures of mankind"
  24. Nice Report. I remember my first trip to cedar point and how awesome it was. It makes me happy to hear about other people's first trip to CP That spot on Maverick where you got the sunset post is always incredibly photogenic. I got some really great photos their too when I went this summer.
  25. Pearls before swine, probably multiple occasions.
