I agree. When they tore down Dueling Dragons for Harry Potter, they chose to build a very similar ride in the same location called Dragon Challenge. Since then, the wait for the new ride is typically only 10 minutes, compared to 60 minutes when the previous ride was there. Kidding aside, I see the concern. While there had been rumors of having a Transformers ride in Universal with the same technology as Spiderman, this would make even less sense if both indoor coasters were in the same park. I don't think it's a huge issue if there were two indoor coasters, honestly. To enthusiasts, it seems weird, but take Shrek and Terminator for example. They're VERY different rides, but both 4-D or whatever they're called. I think it depends what your theme is, your layout, trains, even coaster type. Maybe they do an indoor inverted. To the GP, they won't think "Oh, that's dumb... there are two different indoor coasters here." They'll just be excited that Potter is here.

No! Haha, that's funny. I bet Walt rolled over in his grave. (slash cryogenic freezer) That's true, Disney is the most famous park, and it is smart marketing to use that comparison to the General Public to get that kind of mentality behind your park. It was just when I read it, I had to start over reading again to make sure I was understanding everything.

First off, the weather in South Florida vs. Central Florida is not that different, that's the worst argument ever. Second, What Adam was saying about seniors is that yes, there are a lot of senior citizens in South Florida, but Miami itself has a MUCH younger demographic. Port St. Lucie is a completely different scene. And let's not forget all the families who come down to visit Grandma and PopPop. Thirdly, I don't think it's completely out of the question that South Florida will never have a major park. It will take time, but it can be built up to those kinds of offerings. You can't just pop up a major thrill park and expect it to fly, it will take time to grow. I think what the Miami Zoo ideas have floating around are right on target for what the area needs. I think the Hurricane is the perfect sized coaster for the area, and with a smaller family sized ride and some decent flats, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, ect; that area could be very successful. That area of Miami has always been trying to compete with other districts like Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. Plus, the zoo has a lot of land to work with. If successful, over several phases, you could have a big development in that area.

Most. OverRated. Ride. of 2012.
televisedconfession replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I completely agree, but I'm the kind of fan that takes every coaster for it's value. I don't make a top 10 list, because I believe most coasters are amazing for what they are. (Call me a coaster hippy if you will). Granted, the rides aren't open yet, but based on layouts, themes, and marketing ploys; I definitely think there are some over-rated ones. While I really want to ride it, becasue it looks mamoth (dare I use Behemoth), but I think Leviathon looks to be the most over-rated ride. I just don't think it's going to have the (umph) that the park wants. That could change. I think that B&M are in a funk right now, and in the past couple years haven't released anything game changing. They're sliding into Vekoma boring-ness. I'm not trying to spark up that debate again, because I LOVE me some B&M, but they peaked years ago. I am very curious though to see how the wing-riders actually ride. New B&M's are very smooth, so if done right, hopefully those outside seats won't be AS bad as the others out there, but I won't put money on it. In terms of the layout for the wing-riders, the three coming out just seem like B&M are playing it safe with their new venture. -
Sorry, I'm late to follow this thread, and just tried skimming back, but was there ever a press release put out about this coaster? I know we know much about it through their facebook page/web site, but was there ever the formal release from the park? Can someone point me to it, cause I'm just not finding it.

I wonder if it's a possibility for them to keep the Jaws theme, but just do a MAJOR overhaul of the attraction with new technology and better animatronics. I mean, they did say: Or maybe they'll make a new water based attraction and just drop little "hidden" pieces of the old ride system in there. I hate secretes. They make me nervous.

I'm a little surprised that they're taking the ride out. I haven't been on it in years, because the line is always at least 45 minutes (and I just can't justify that wait!). It was always really popular, but wayyyy out dated. I'm kinda glad to see it go. I agree, I think ANOTHER Potterville in ANOTHER park would be beating a dead horse. I hope that doesn't happen. I'm trying to think of something that they could transform the "San Fran Bay" area into, and I could see an easy renovation of that area into a "Transformers" type land all together. Though I'm hoping for something new we haven't seen before. This is big news because so much land is involved. Looking forward to the upcoming developments.

The original coaster they had built was a Dragon Wagon. I highly doubt it's anything more than something on this magnitude. If it were Schwarzkopf, I would flip lid and be there every day. EVERY DAY. I know who the family that purchased the park are, and now I need to do a lot more snooping. I was always just under the assumption it would be something minor. I still have doubts though.

Because we all know that Jurassic Park is still wildly popular with the kids now-a-days! And don't forget the lasting power of Duddly Do-Right. I mean, it's literally on TV all the time! I think the interesting thing about more Potter Parks, is to see new Potter themed rides. With the Orlando one, they just added one ride, and re-themed the rest of them around it. If you add new Potter Parks, they'll have to come up with more interesting ways to keep it interesting, because they won't have the uniqueness that comes with the IOA property anywhere else.
