robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
For all of you attending Termination Day you should get an email with instructions on how to order the "Take the Tunnel" shirt at an "event rate." This rate is ONLY available to those of you attending Termination Day. You'll get the T-Shirt on the day of the event before ANYONE else gets this shirt! TAKE THE TUNNEL!!! --Robb -

Except that it's height restriction is 48", which is the same as The Beast, Vortex, Son of Beast, etc. IMO, Kings Island has one of the best "kids areas" but almost nothing for kids under 48" outside of the kids area. (Same problem that Cedar Point has). To me it makes no sense that rides like Top Gun, Adventure Express and Italian Job are all 48" There is no 'progression' in their rides at all. I really *thought* that Top Gun, Adventure Express, and Racer used to all have a 42" or 44" height restiction but now they are all 48". (Cedar Fair did the same thing with Jaguar at Knott's.) While Italian Job's launch *may* be a little too intense for someone 42" I don't think it's thrilling enough for the 48" kid, especially considering the other 48" options. I really, REALLY wish Cedar Fair would re-conisder the height restrictions on some of those coasters. I mean, c'mon guys - Tower of Terror is 40" and I personally think that Italian Job is nowhere NEAR as scary as freaking TOWER OF TERROR!!! Adventure Express - 42" Top Gun - 44" Racer - 44" Italian Job - 44" The Beast - 48" Vortex - 48" Seems to make a lot more sense to me. --Robb -

"Take the Tunnel" T-Shirt!

^ There are a few illegal POVs that I've seen that have the audio, but I really don't want to link to them here because we don't endorse that sort of thing. It would be REALLY nice if the park would release an official POV though! --Robb -

BPB Roller Coaster SBNO
robbalvey replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
But they DO gain a station and all the infatructure that goes with it, though. And if they are going to do anything like a steel coaster like an Intamin launch, that out and back area is a great location for a lauch track, the area where Space Invader is would be a great area for a tophat, etc, etc.... A steel coaster can take up much less space than woodie, so I can see why it would be a 'target' for removal if they are looking to add something new. --Robb -

I agree with the others that if there is no "official single rider line" set up, you're just trying to cut the line and would wind up looking like a douchebag to other people who waited in the entire queue for their ride. My solution? Go to a TPR event (like Termination Day) where there will be no lines and get your fill of rides in then! --Robb -
I would really like to see that Flashback area used for a much needed SFHH expansion. Also remember that there were quite a few noise and safety issues with a large coaster right next to the water park. Flashback often had to be closed while SFHH was open because the lifeguards could not hear each other when they had to shout signals to each other. If that Flashback area was used for SFHH, there wouldn't be any large coaster boarding it since it's all mostly quieter Bugs Bunny World rides. --Robb

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

What would you say the plan would be if every coaster's a new credit there? So my suggestion: 1. Goliath 2. Scream 3. Colossus 4. Batman 5. Riddlers - maybe fit in tidal wave if that's still open lol....the heat is gonna kill ya! 6. Goldrusher 7. Superman 8. Ninja 9. Tatsu 10. Deja Vu I guarantee you'll get all this done by 1:00--2:00 (I did this during a weekday in the summer and on New Years Eve 2006 I recall though). Then make your way to the other end of the park: 11. Viper 12. X2 (likely to have a large line to deal with) 13. Revolution I'm sorry, but this is a terrible plan. Why would you WANT to tell someone to go do the ride with the largest possible line in the park...LAST??? And tell someone to go to one of the highest capacity rides with one of the shorter lines for a "major" attraction, FIRST?!?!? Why wait in that X2 line when you don't HAVE to? Here's what I would do. First of all, get a Gold Q-Bot for one of your days. Seriously. It may be expensive, but it will make your day *MUCH* more relaxing. If not, you pretty much want to be at the park an hour before it opens, make sure you're one of the first people at the front gates, and RUN to X2. That ride could get a 2-4 hour line during the day depending on the crowds. No other ride in the park will get this long of a line so if you can get this one out of the way FIRST without waiting in a 2-4 hour line, that gives you 2-4 hours MORE to ride other coasters in the park, or ride the coasters you liked the best multiple times. Other than that, do a search on the site, we have posted many times how to navigate SFMM. --Robb -

I'm not sure. I'm assuming if you get there before 8:30 then maybe yes, but if not you'll either need your parking pass or pay for parking. You want to put whatever name you will be using at registration. Morning ERT at this point will ONLY be on Terminator. --Robb -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

Except for the first rides of the day and when there is absolutely no wait, the idea of the preshow is that it takes up time you'd be spending waiting in line anyway. Whether or not this is exactly the case is up to the park to figure out and, from what Robb and others have said, this is what they're tweaking. If there wasn't a preshow, you'd still have the same amount of people in front of you in line. It just wouldn't be as entertaining. Exactly. Something that many people don't seem to understand is that the pre-show isn't stopping you from riding, it's keeping you more entertained while you wait in line. Otherwise you'd just be in another sea of switchbacks. I'd much rather have something to look at or watch while I'm waiting. --Robb -
The Official TPR "East Coast/Behemoth Trip" Update
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ But with all due respect to both the original designers of that ride and GCI, the only design change that I'm aware of that GCI made was replacing the trick track with the triple up. I'm assuming that all that airtime was there before, you just didn't get it because of the terrible track work that was originally done. GCI comes along and puts good track work on top of a good original design and now you get the ride as it was originally intended to be. I'm not sure you can credit GCI for it being an 'airtime machine', I think you have to give that credit to the original designers. --Robb -

As long as we have the money before the event, that's fine. I'm expecting this event will sell out within the next week and if I don't have payments in by, let's say a week before the event, I may end up having to release those tickets back to anyone who wants them. As for the shipping, the "Trip Event or Deposit" option has always been there. If you have paid for shipping, please let me know and I can refund that $5. If you have selected a shipping method, but haven't sent in a check yet, just send in the $20 or $35 depending on what ticket you ordered. --Robb -
TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ Yeah, sorry, I should have made that more clear. We do need payment in advance. We won't be taking payments on the day of the event. What happened before when we used to allow this is that people wouldn't show up and TPR would have to eat the cost because we have to give the park a guarantee of a certain number of tickets sold. --Robb -
Elissa and I are the key points of contact for all the parks we work with. I don't feel that having any kind of "regional rep" for TPR is a good idea because I've seen other organizations do this and IMO it just doesn't work well. Many parks do read TPR and take our feedback into consideration, you just don't see a lot of parks post to the site. In fact, I would say that just about every "major" park all over the world (and a lot of minor ones too) read TPR on a very regular basis. TPR already travels around the world every year and we put on events and tours globally. I would say that on an annual basis TPR visits over 100 parks per year as a group. If you want to know more about what tours and events we are putting on, check our events page: http://www.themeparkreview.com/events/events.htm If you have any questions about a visit we are having to a park near you, either post about it or email me! I'm going to close this thread for now because I feel it might just turn into a thread of people telling us how we should be doing our events and tours and at the moment, when we are less than two weeks away from starting our VERY busy tour season, it's just not the time for a thread like this. Perhaps at the end of the season when we are planning NEXT YEAR's trips is a better time. Thanks for your understanding. --Robb

TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wait...Shipping? There isn't anything "shipped" to you. This is just registering for the event. Like all other TPR events you pick up your tickets at registration the morning of the event. It clearly says in the store that registration is in the morning: 8:30am - Registration 9:00am to 10:30am - ERT on Terminator Salvation: The Ride 12:00pm - 2:00pm - Lunch at SFMM 10:00pm - 11:00pm - Night ERT* And then when you get to the "shipping type" page in the store you should select the following option: ( ) Trip or Event Payment - No Shipping Required Sorry if this wasn't clear, I just figured everyone understood this was like all other TPR events where you sign up and get everything at registration. There isn't actually anything to "ship" to you! --Robb EDIT: I have made a change to the store and hopefully it's even more clear now.
