Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ I want to say the total "show" is about 10 minutes. Give me a couple of hours and I should have the entire thing uploaded to CoasterTube! Honestly, I think the whole issue of the pre-show could be eliminated if they just figure out a good way to run the line through and loop what you are seeing in each room. It's more or less the idea of having to stop and watch, then move on, stop and watch, and then move on which seems, at least IMO, to be what's frustrating people and less about what's actually on the screens in front of them. When you get in the station and see half-empty trains you think to yourself "Could I have been on the ride sooner had I not been forced to watch the pre-show again for the 20th time?" Unlike Tower of Terror when you get out of the pre-show, you're in the boiler room where there is clearly more line and you don't feel like you could have been on the actual part of the attraction any sooner. Everyone has to remember that yesterday was the FIRST time people went through the queue. I have a feeling we need to give the park a little more time to monitor the situation and make adjustments. --Robb -

^^ READ some of the complaints. They are saying the pre-show is GREAT the first time through, but doesn't "hold up" on repeat veiws. I think it's a fair complaint. Perhaps the Tower of Terror pre-show doesn't bother people on repeat viewings? And even if you compare it to something like Rock N Roller Coaster, well, the RNR pre-show in Florida is about 90 seconds long, and the one in Paris...maybe 10 seconds? --Robb -

Just in case it gets lost on the last page... I have posted some of the HD offride footage we shot yesterday here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-wLQqFKWIE&fmt=22 I included some of the park's POV B-Roll, but we haven't seen an unedited version or an HD version yet. Here's the standard def CoasterTube version: [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=terminator_pov_xqzh[/coastertube] --Robb -

SFMM management reads this forum on a regular basis. I'm absolutley sure all of these comments have been read and noted alrady. The other thing I want to give them credit to is that many of the things we see, they ALSO see. I walked the queue with Neal last night and as I comment on things before I'm even done with my thought, I hear exactly the response I was hoping for, so it's clear to me they know a lot of this already, but I think heariing it from more people does help reinforce and prioritize issues. For example, I said to him "You guys need more monitors in this 2nd pre-show room..." and he already had said "We're getting more and possibly changing the location of others." Give them time. They only got people through the queue for the first time yesterday, and I'm sure after this holiday weekend a *LOT* will be learned and tweaked! These guys have been at it a LONG time...they know the drill! --Robb -

TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^^ Awesome! And yes, in case anyone is interested, this event is open to TPR members and their guests. Seriously, DO NOT WAIT TO SIGN UP! There is a very good chance this event WILL sell out!!! --Robb -
^^ I just looked at the pictures. The park looks almost EXACTLY the same to me. Here's the thing, the park looked fine before. That's not the issue. The question really is "Can they get people to show up?" When they can accomplish that, I'll say "job well done." But this: Pretty much looks exactly as it did a year ago: New signage is not difficult to create. But getting people to come to your park is the REAL challenge! --Robb

^ On a side note, I'm told that the station is the same size as Troy and Thunderhead, but just seems smaller because it's more enclosed than those others. I too felt the station seemed really cramped and they'll need a grouper position full time because there is realy no room to line up for the front seat. Also I was told that they will continue to tweak how the crowd goes through the line and I would expect that things could be different even by the end of this weekend. I agree with the audio track. I loved the "sound FX" and the random sound bytes - Gunshots, "TAKE THE TUNNEL!!!" etc, and I liked the station sound FX, but the rest of it just sounded like noise to me. And I too saw someone grabing onto the speaker as though it was a 'grab bar.' I really thought this chick was going to totally rip the speaker out of the seat!!! --Robb -

TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I would take that to mean a season pass from any Six Flags park. Would that be correct? Yes, that would be correct! I don't want to give an exact number, but I can tell you we will limit the attendance, and there will not be long lines! We wouldn't allow long lines at a TPR event! You will get in PLENTY of rides during our ERT session! --Robb "Register now in case of another sell out!" Alvey -

LA Times posted their review (with some photos courtesey of TPR!) He gave it kind of a lukewarm review I thought, and personally I think I liked the ride a bit better, but it's always nice to have other opinions out there! http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/terminator-salvation-4533/ --Robb -

I have all three pre-shows in HD and if you can wait a day I'll post them so you don't have to worry about streaming them from your iPhone. Also the park shot pov this morning so hopefully I'll have that in the next day or two to add into the video TPR shot today. (we shot a ton of footage!) -

Just got back home from media day. The ride really delivers. The theming, while not *quite* convincing me about the "wood coaster = abandoned machine", was really well done! You enter the "themed" area of the queue just after the outside swtich backs and there are 3 pre-show areas filled with videos, props, and yes, even Terminators! The coaster itself is really solid. If you've been on a GCI you'll know what to expect. Great, fast-paced ride with some pops of air all over the place. The on board audio...well, all I can say is "TAKE THE TUNNEL!!!!" The fire works well, but maybe not *quite* as impactful after seeing it on X2, I dunno, but it was fun and effective. Overall, it's a solid ride. It's going to be a fan favorite of many people who visit the park! I'll have photos later today and a video tomorrow! --Robb -

I'm sorry guys. I think while the thread as a discussion point had merit. The comments and they way they are presented just come off as being negative for the sake of being negative, including the topic title. Come up with a more constructive way to present your point next time. --Robb "Thread Closed." Alvey -
^^ Telling people how to get back to the coaster before the crowd is not "breaking rules" it's being SMART! We are not doing anything that is outside of the park rules. If you want to wait in a longer line with the GP, knock yourself out. If you want to try to get back there before hand, listen to the advice TPR has to offer. Anyone else disagree with this? --Robb

^ I'm not sure, actually. I know the "opening ceremony" is tomorrow but I've never been there for the opening day to see if they do or say anything about it. I would imagine that at the little park opening ceremony thing they do, they'll probably mention the ride during that. --Robb -

I would normally agree and probably suggest this. The only caveat is that if they hold Orient's dispatch until it's full, you may be sitting in the tram for 3 to 5 minutes until it's dispatched. If you're going to walk it, I would suggest going up through Rev's Flash Pass entrance and taking that short cut so at least you've got a head start in front of the people who went by Viper. --Robb
