Dollywood Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed, but tons of major news networks reported on it, so I don't blame anyone for sharing it. It sounds like there's understandably a lot of confusion in Gatlinburg right now. Yeah, I have to be honest, I haven't put anything on the TPR socials because I've seen such crazy conflicting information. I don't think I've ever seen a news story like this where there is just so much information drastically incorrect. Just a sign of the times I guess... *sigh* and it's only going to get worse these next four years... -
Energylandia Park Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
RANT AHEAD.... Wow the video wasn't even up TWO MINUTES and already someone complained about the ride. Seriously.... WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!??!!?! With all the crazy sh!t happening in the world right now you feel the need to complain about the last 10 seconds of a roller coaster??? This is where your priorities are??? Get off our forum.... /end rant On a positive note, the ride looks ABSOLUTELY BALL-TINGLING BONKERS AMAZING! Planning our 2018 trip already.... -
We really like the hotels that are on the "main drag" in Pigeon Forge. You're within walking distance of tons of stuff and the trolley transportation is great, too! The Timesaver pass seems like you can easily buy it during your park visit if you need it. But I would ask in the Dollywood discussion thread how busy it generally is during those times. For me, I get it even if lines are only 20 minutes. Those extra minutes always add up during the day and you can spend your time relaxing or getting more rides in instead of waiting in lines. I'm not sure it really matters that much, to be honest. I've found at Dollywood there doesn't seem to be one side that gets any more/less busier than the other. I guess if you want to really try to avoid crowds, go all the way to the back and start at Tennessee Tornado, but eventually you'll run into to crowds no matter which way you go. Front row of the back car on Tennessee Tornado!

Launch VS Lift Hill?
robbalvey replied to DoinItForTheFame's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Since there are so few examples (Throw Space Mountain Mission: 2 and maybe California Screamin' and Orlando's Mummy & Hulk into that mix as well) for the sake of this discussion, I would just count them as lift hills. Fast lift hills, yes, but really they are doing the same job as your standard lift hill, they just get you to the top much faster. Either that or, for the sake of this discussion, you just don't count them. There are what, maybe 5 or 6 that I can think of in total? -
This has nothing to do with this topc. If u like open a new topic about Vekoma Creations. Um, you have absolutely NO RIGHT to backseat moderate this thread just because you made it. Threads will sometimes take different directions, and that is totally fine. That's just how online forums work. If you can't handle that, you probably shouldn't be posting to a forum. Banned for one week for your attitude and being obnoxious to other members. When your ban is lifted, try being less abrasive towards others. This will be your only warning.

Do not underestimate the popularity of Hall of Presidents. I have seen it three times recently and it has played to a nearly packed to completely full house every time. I saw it the day after the election, and sat out front of it finishing a drink for about 5 minutes. I witnessed a very interesting exchange.... Random Guest to CM: "Is Trump in here now?" CM: "No, Trump was only elected yesterday so technically he is not our President yet but he will be added later next year." Me to CM after guest walks away: "Wait, are people seriously asking TODAY if Trump is in there, after only being elected last night?" CM: "I've been here only a few hours and I've had no fewer than 500 people ask me already." Wow. So not only are people stupid enough to vote for the guy, they also are dumb enough to think he would be in the Hall of Presidents THE VERY NEXT DAY. Our world is doomed...

How about we just let Guess the Neon Coaster die in 1997. If I wanted to bring it back, I would have brought it back sometime in the last 20 years...

Yes, we know. None of us are living under a rock. We also already have a Kings Island Discussion thread. Please do not create new threads when we already have park-specific threads set up. Maybe you should browse the forum and read the rules again before you decide to post anymore. Just some friendly advice. Welcome to the forums...I think.

http://blog.universalorlando.com/whats-new/volcano-bay-coaster-details/ NEW RIDE AND TAPUTAPU WEARABLE DETAILS REVEALED ABOUT UNIVERSAL’S VOLCANO BAY Opening in early summer 2017, Universal’s Volcano Bay will be a water theme park unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, from incredible thrills to perfected relaxation. It’ll feature dozens of attractions that offer something for everyone – and you won’t have to stand in long lines to experience any of them. Krakatau Aqua Coaster We previously told you that Volcano Bay will feature a state-of-the-art marquee attraction…but we were mum on the details. Well, I’m excited to finally share details about what will be the park’s star experience: Krakatau Aqua Coaster. Krakatau Aqua Coaster will be a first-of-its-kind aqua coaster in Florida — and it’ll be a fun adventure for the entire family. You’ll board specially-designed canoes that seat up to four. Then, you’ll be propelled downwards – and upwards – through the volcano’s interior peaks and valleys. You’ll twist, turn and plummet along dark passageways, be launched through sparkling waterfalls and so much more. And here’s a cool fun fact for you techies out there: Krakatau Aqua Coaster will use linear induction motor technology. This technology launches the canoe uphill before it immediately sends riders into a downhill plunge. This technology is also used in some of your favorite Universal attractions – like Revenge of the Mummy – and now we’re bringing it to a water attraction. TapuTapu Wearable One of the main goals for Universal’s Volcano Bay was to eliminate long lines and hassles so you can focus more on having fun. And with the TapuTapu wearable, you’ll be able to do just that. When you arrive to the park, you’ll receive a TapuTapu wearable (at no extra charge) that will allow you to do the following with a simple tap: Virtual Lines You will be able to virtually wait in line while you play in other areas of the park. The wearable will alert you when it’s time for you to ride so you can head to the attraction. Tap to Play Volcano Bay features various “tap-to-play” experiences– all designed exclusively by Universal’s award-winning creative team. With just a tap of TapuTapu, you’ll be able to trigger special effects throughout the park. You can control streams of water spurting from whales in Tot Tiki Reef, shoot water cannons at other guests snaking down Kopiko Wai Winding River and illuminate images in the volcano’s hidden caves. And there’s more! More information about TapuTapu and special guest features will be released soon. Tickets Available Nov. 15 And the best news of all is: now you can start to plan your getaway to Universal’s Volcano Bay! Tickets for the park will go on sale on November 15. More details about Universal’s Volcano Bay will be revealed over time. Be sure to sign up for real-time updates and to stay up-to-speed on all news regarding Universal’s Volcano Bay.

This is a very good question. I would say those IAAPA videos is actually a good example of why we DON'T do things like vlogs or interviews anymore. Just take a look at the difference in views from our interview style IAAPA videos... Compared to when we post more "fun" videos from IAAPA like riding stuff on the show floor or concept videos that ride companies give to us: As you can see, we have to play to our audience, which is not really as interested in interviews as they are more action-packed ride video, which is why we've changed how we do IAAPA coverage over the year. If you're at IAAPA keep an eye our for us. There are some other big media events going on at the same time so we will be in and out of IAAPA quite a bit this year juggling many different things.

THIS. I have actually been hearing this rumor for quite some time about the Dragons leaving, and I've heard it from many different people who are in totally different departments around the park (some in fairly higher positions) so I'm SURE this has been talked about. It's no secret that JK Rowling hated this ride and Universal fought for it to stay, and now that it doesn't duel it's really not performing what it was originally intended to do. I'd be "ok" with it being moved to another Universal park where it might be able to Duel again under different circumstances, or another rumor I've heard, is that the two tracks may be split up and moved to two different parks. Aren't there two Universal parks currently in development, right now? Hmmm.... And I haven't ridden it since the metal detectors went in, and I won't again until those are removed.
-
As much as I don't want to de-rail this thread from the amazing time we had at MNSSHP I cannot not quote this because it is EXACTLY how I feel. I absolutely *REFUSE* to go on any roller coaster where I have to walk through a metal detector to get on it, and they tell me "Sorry you can't even have your phone in our 1 hour line." Forget that. I'd much rather go ride Space Mountain over and over again where this guy carried 4 bags of candy, a helmet, a sword, and a shield along with everything else in his pocket onto the ride without any issue at all. *THAT* is the kind of trust and amazing operations I look for at a park, not the equivalent of having to go through airport security to have fun on a roller coaster. Like Dirk said above, I don't care what justification you try to give me, I don't buy it. The fact that so many parks, hundreds of them all over the world, that have thousands of roller coasters that fly over midways, and they all operate without needing such an extreme measure to get onto ride tells me the problem is WITH THAT PARK, not parks or people in general.
