So I finished up my spring semester last Monday and had a week off before I started my summer session (today). I was really bored the whole week because there was only so much Guitar Hero that could be played, so I decided, what the heck, I'll drive to Charlotte and go to Carowinds. Stayed in Pineville at the Hampton Inn which I got through my cousin so it was only $30/night. Got to the park around 11 on Friday, stayed until almost closing. Did some stuff around Charlotte on Saturday and then went back to the park on Sunday for a few hours. The end result of my parking receipt sitting on the dashboard on a hot sunny day. Cedar Fair's doing. End of my day at the park. Made sure that this was credit number 150. And it was well worth it. Sick ride. Some airtime through the Immelmann. For you Derek. Fairly Odd Coaster was fairly not bad for what it is. See this Six Flags? Lost KIDS, not lost PARENTS. Left the park to drop something off in the car and grabbed this picture while in two different states! Zomg!!!1 Pretty theming. Forwards side, no airtime but fairly smooth. Backwards side, painful ejector airtime and much spinal adjustment. You've seen it before. Vortex in the water. Had a bit of a rattle, but it's a Vekoma so it was expected. Very forceful through the loop. Me like. BORG. The BORG. Zorg? Someone actually called it Zorg. 3 Point Challenge, I burned $15 on this and all I got was a basketball... The only other inversion on Vortex Yay for Confederate flags! Vortex...through Vortex. The ride turned out to be smooth and very decent. For you lift hill enthusiasts I was expecting this one to be like Chang, aka rough and tumble. One year ejection from park for standing on ride? Sure, why not... Definitely didn't ride because I didn't have a change of clothes, or a towel, nor am I stupid NAILED! Meh The top section was not braked, quite surprising, like the one at Hershey Not as good as the one at KD Hurler...*shudders* Carolina Cyclone, not a terrible ride, but nothing special Entrance sign

I got back to my apartment from campus at 3 and turned the tv as soon as I got in, since I had heard about a shooting earlier (at the time it was one killed and one injured). Then I turn it on and they're saying 31 dead. I thought about that for a second and then I just started crying. As a college student (UNC Chapel Hill), it just deeply saddens me that my peers' lives are taken away so needlessly and so violently. This has been a very tumultuous (school) year in terms of school shootings. Rivalries aside, my thoughts go out to everyone in Hokie Nation.

So I'm traveling to London for Spring Break with my sister and I want to go to a theme park so I can get some credits. I'm just wondering which park would be the best bang for buck (exchange rate is insane!). I've checked out Thorpe Park which is relatively close to London and so far thats my pick (18 pounds isn't too steep). Are there any parks accessible via public transit? Thanks for the help guys! Photo TR will follow upon my return. Yay for London! P.S. Any other general suggestions for places to go, things to see in London beyond the obvious ones? (I'm staying for five days)

LOL... I thought it said "naked" at first also! Me three. Then I read "nuked," and I said "dammit!"

^ Stag is the way to go!

And.....creepy it comes off as, but funny. I think you should've gone with the "Old School" version though. It's a bit more comedic.

^ Well, in the defense of the Red Bulls, the team was bought by the Red Bull company. Frankly, I'm really happy with the news, not because a high profile player is coming to the United States to play soccer, but because Beckham is leaving Madrid which frees up a spot on the squad for someone new to come in. Also, this is a brilliant move for Beckham and for the MLS because when I went to see Colombia play England in a friendly at Giants Stadium in NJ, I would venture to guess that over half of the people attending the game where there to see David Beckham.

Random PTR: Jahan's Super-Sweet Room Remodeling!
tngdiablo replied to arrowfanman's topic in Random, Random, Random
Nice pictures. That's actually quite a lot of money that you found. I wish I could find that in my room, I'm kinda broke. Hmmm...maybe I should do my own TR of re-arranging my room. Interesting, tis a new semester and I need to make some changes so yeah. I'll make sure to take some pictures. -
Amusement Park Workers In Ohio Excluded
tngdiablo replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmm...that's certainly not fair. I'm sure that there will be some protest over this in the near future. I remember at Great Adventure, we asked about one of the workers how much they get paid and they told us a few things including how the park bypasses overtime laws by billing it a seasonal carnival or something to that effect (essentially the same as was previously posted). What I'm wondering is if and when the federal minimum wage is raised, will it take precedence over the state law? My gut says yes, but there's a reason I'm not a poli sci/gov't major. -
Tallest Ferris Wheel for Beijing 2008
tngdiablo replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ My calculations show that this ferris wheel will be moving at approximately 1.070997 miles per hour, which is also 0.015708 feet per second. -
That doesn't make ne sense! That's the smoothest part of the ride. How are you gonna make a rider smoother by taking out the smoothest part? I honestly can't even remember the loop on SOB. My head was already resembling putty by the time we hit the loop. By the time we got off the train, I felt like Jello.

Lol. That was me on Thursday for the first launch attempt. I had studying to do so I couldn't repeat it yesterday. It is rather boring though and only space geeks like us can sit there and watch it for hours on end.
-
Yes! I was intensely watching Nasa TV online for about two hours before the scheduled launch, hoping for the go-ahead. When they finally went around to all the launch directors and they all gave the green light, I was really excited. Closer to launch time, I turned on the tv and tuned to Fox News (rare instance, but they had the best coverage of the launch), turned up the volume and waited for liftoff. What a majestic sight! I can't wait until the day that I can make it to Florida to see a shuttle launch for myself (I have limited time too). Here's the direct link to the launch video: Linky Congratulations to NASA for the awesome launch and good luck to the shuttle crew. Hope to see a picture-perfect landing in 12 days.

New York City In The Winter Time, Any Tips?
tngdiablo replied to Hattuchili's topic in Random, Random, Random
Famous Ray's on St. Marks and 3rd Avenue, if you want pizza swimming in grease and so much cheese and sauce that your mouth waters at the thought of it, kind of like I'm doing right now. There's a reason its Famous Ray's. If you're downtown in the WTC area, Portobello's is on Murray Street between West Broadway and Greenwich Street. Absolutely the most friendly owner of anything I have ever met. Great guy and great pizza. If you want to have old fashioned style pizza, the only place to go is Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. Right underneath the Brooklyn Bridge on Old Fulton Street, right by the Fulton Street Landing (the Water Taxi docks there, if you want to take that). Also right next to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Dessert? Cake Man Raven. 708 Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Best. Cake. Ever. Tourist Attractions: -As sad as it is to me that this has become such a must-see tourist attraction (since I had to witness it from 3 blocks away), it is now a part of history. The World Trade Center area is a good place to reflect on the evil that is inherent in this world. Ground was broken on the new Freedom Tower. -Empire State Building -Grand Central Terminal -Central Park -FAO Schwartz -Free public restrooms offered by Charmin in Times Square! -Greenwich Village -Little Italy (if you're in the mood for good italian food) -Chinatown (if you want fake bags and IDs) -East Village -Everywhere Also, try to venture out into the other boroughs, even if for just a few hours, to see the true diversity that is New York City. And if you want more good food. (Except for Staten Island, it doesn't count) Let me know if you want to meet up and I can show you around. As a note: Though you can enter the Statue of Liberty, you can't actually go up to the crown which completely nullifies the experience. So, don't even bother with this, it's a waste of time. -
Let's be honest... do you think that most people diss Wal Mart because of their business practices, or because of things like "The stores are dirty" and "Walmart is a dump"? Wal Mart has a target audience and those outside of it often don't like it. With that said, I shop all over. Wal Mart DOES have lower quality on some items, but some things are the same no matter where you are (like a six pack of Coke). Why pay more at your local grocer when you can get that six pack of Coke cheaper at Wal Mart? However, for things like my bathroom towels.. I can buy cheaper goods at Wal Mart that will fall apart in a few months, or go to Target and pay a little more but have towels that look new a year later. Like everything, Wal Mart has its niche in the market... and for those of us who live out in the middle of nowhere, its nice to know that there is a place with about anything I could ever want or need... and that its open 24 hrs a day in a town that dies at 10PM. I just hate seeing any government step in and regulate business... the only problem I have with Wal Mart is seeing them abuse eminent domain, which is why I voted in favor of limiting the use of eminent domain in my state this past election. Precisely why I shop at Wal-Mart. I got a real bad headache while I was up late one night doing homework and I needed some ibuprofen/aspirin/something to make it go away. The only thing open was Wal-Mart. As questionable their business practices may be, they are very convenient. And like Jow said, Coke is Coke, but when you need to find something of quality, go elsewhere and leave it to those who can't afford to go elsewhere to buy those things at Wal-Mart.
