Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Scaparri replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There is no way Deja Vu is going to CP. It's just not happening. That rumor just cracks me up. Seriously, CP is way too big on capacity. You can try and fix this all you want, it's still not going to have a very good capacity. Yeah, they have Wicked Twister, but I would be welling to bet that Wicked Twister's capacity is much larger than Deja Vu's TRUE capacity. And there are one too many capacity's in that statement. -

^It actually looks to me like the trains are thinner. If you look at it, the mounts of the lap bars for the outside seats are right next to the bases of the inside seats, so it's like the outside seats will be slightly shadowing the inner seats. I don't really expect the track gauge to change, but it definitely looks to me like the trains are a little thinner. -

I think I might have a new best friend. Awesome TR, dude... all of it. I've always wondered what those Chattanooga attractions were like. I've passed them at least twice a year for probably the last 20 years and never visited. I definitely need to check out Rock City sometime. I'll have to put that on the to do list next time I'm on my way to Atlanta or Florida. -

^I must be the only person who actually likes that ride. Well, aside from this being strictly an unconfirmed rumor, GL's season isn't even over yet, so of course they haven't taken it off yet. -

Maverick rollback > All other rollbacks combined You know you all are jealous! It's funny, I look at your pictures from the morning and I look at mine from the afternoon, and they really haven't changed much! Avoiding the pouring rain, waiting for Maverick was the general theme for a solid eight hours. Well, minus the awesomeness that was drying off in TGIFriday's. That day was great though. Definitely made for a good story. And I love Jahan's feelings for the weather. I still can't get over those jacked up clouds. -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Scaparri replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Are real estate developers really that hot for the property? With the housing market downturn and the fact that Cleveland isn't doing well economically (recently called the poorest city in the US) maybe it's not such a great deal right now. GL's economic woes, however, may just mirror the overall picture for Cleveland. Well, I honestly can't confirm anything 'cause I don't know jack about the housing market or the Cleveland, but the area has really built up around GL since 2000, and I know some of the surrounding villages are fairly uppity. They are the type of villages where the fast food restaurants and gas stations are all made of nice brick and there are neighborhoods with massive homes. Keeping that in mind, almost anytime you throw a house on waterfront property, the value is going to go up. So yeah, I don't know, but I'm sure the property is worth more than any other property in the area, simply because it's on a lake. On another note, I actually really like BeemerBoy's idea of a mega-water park. It wouldn't make total sense with the climate, but hey, there are water parks in Canada. Why not a major water park in Northern Ohio? I'm sure if it was impressive enough, people would come. Just so long as my beloved Big Dipper is saved! -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Scaparri replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think Ginzo nailed it. It's just really frustrating to me. I loved Geauga Lake, well, at least back when it was an SF property. It had so much going for it back then. The SeaWorld side gave it something that no other park in the Midwest has, and then you had the tons of coasters and rides on the other side. And all of this was surrounding a lake. There aren't many better settings for major amusement parks in this nation than that. I'm sure what Ginzo said about Kinzel is probably true. They took a park that was doing pretty well and have slowly ripped it to pieces. Maybe they'll keep the older rides like Big Dipper and Double Loop and maintain it as a really small park, but at this point, they might as well just put the place out of it's misery. Just make sure the Big Dipper is relocated. Anywho, Dominator would be good at KD. I've always thought that a floorless would fit in well there. -

I'm kind of wondering if they are just installing three trims so that if they feel they need to slow it down, they can do so more precisely. This way, if the train is shooting over the 4th camelback too fast, they can trim it on the fourth instead of maybe the second and killing more of the ride. Who knows. I'm hoping that's the case. We'll see... -

^This is a good point, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing. It's the "what could have been" factor, whether it's safety related or not. We'll just have to wait and see. For instance, Goliath at SFOG was trimmed from day one and it's still amazing. Then there is Raging Bull, which is a good ride, but it's definitely missing a lot compared to when it wasn't trimmed. -

If you're going to steal my quotes you can at least give me a little credit. -
Oh boy, this could get lengthy. Assuming we're not counting credits that require a child, here's my list: SFGAm Spacely's Sprocket Rockets- always thought there was a limit Mt. Olympus Dive to Atlantis- didn't feel like waiting for it SFStL Rockin' Roller- thought there was a limit Kennywood Lil' Phantom- thought there was a limit Myrtle Beach Pavilion Hurricane- weather, and had intentions of coming back later in the week... didn't happen. Little Eagle- see Hurricane Mad Mouse- see Hurricane Hersheypark Roller Soaker- didn't feel like waiting two hours SFOT Canyon Blaster- ran out of time Carowinds Fairly Odd Coaster- ran out of time Flying Super Saturator- ran out of time/wait Thunder Road (one side)- ran out of time Magic Kingdom Barnstormer- didn't feel like whoring myself out Then if you count coasters that were closed on visits so I technically couldn't get them: Beech Bend Dragon Looping Star IOA Flying Unicorn Wild Adventures Boomerang Animal Kingdom Primeval Whirl (one side) Motorworld Wild Wind SFOT Mine Train

^Seriously, what's up with that, Matt? You missed out. I don't know if Lou told you, but I'm kind of a big deal. Paul, you do look special in that picture. And Lou... Lou just looks like she's trying not to wet herself. I was just trying not to completely crush you. That was so much fun. If only we had a picture of the four of us squeezed, or as Lou would say, "crahmed", into Tig'rr Coaster. Then again, maybe it's good that we don't. Good times. -

The trains still annoy me, but the fact that they are longer will be cool. It'll make the back seat that much more insane hopefully. I'm just drooling over that first drop. The name completely cracks me up though. Sure, it's a rip off, but that's what makes it great. I mean come on, it's not like people haven't said Six Flags has taken cheap shots. From the addition of five coasters at SFMM between 2000-2003 to catch up on the coaster record, or the lack of imagination and new innovation in Kingda Ka, people have whined. Now CF is aiming back. I'm no fanboy, but I do think it's pretty funny. -

Well, I'm excited about the actual ride, but I'm just a bit stunned about the trains. I was really hoping that the Vekoma Super Invertigos would be the last we ever saw of that configuration. I just don't really get what the point of it is. It's more annoying than anything. But whatever, I won't complain. I'm impressed with the ride. It's long, tall, and steep. Hopefully it packs a punch similar to Goliath at SFOG. -

Again, Awesome TR, Tom. I'm a bit disappointed it's complete! Looks like it was a flippin' awesome trip though. And it's good to see you fully appreciate the awesomeness that is Phantom's Revenge. That ride just continues to blow my mind. The huge curving first drop, the ginormous drop into the abyss, the insane airtime. If only it were just a little longer! It's amazing though. Glad you had a good time stateside. -

Actually, they demolished one of the greatest flat rides in the nation (Quake), to put it one of the most cloned and overrated water slides in the world (Tornado). I wouldn't mind seeing a Deluge style slide go into Flashback's spot though. It seems like it'd be a good fit for the parks.
