  1. It's probably that different because of the time it was built, and that it is the jewel in the Paris Disney crown... Because it was built 10-15 years later than the America ones, the new technology was available, and since it was a brand-spanking new park (the ride opened the year after though), Disney probably thought it'd be good to add some new technology for it to make it an interesting and different place, hence the 'better' versions of BTM and POTC... Also I would guess that it was due to the change in market, what with the other parks around adding looping coasters, (Port Aventura was no doubt in the planning stages) and the whole bigger coaster thing becoming the 'in' thing, Disney naturally re-did the band-wagon with the first launch on a coaster I think (correct me please if wrong), since it was before RnR... Mission 2 I think was really and 'bring-into-the-modern' day upgrade, in that in normal terms, it wasn't neccessary for the ride, but was done in order to bring it back to it's former glory (see X2)... Either way, the fact I only went on the original bout once or twice means I don't exactly remember it well...
  2. So it's basically Sky Swat seating with stadum style seating... And I like Sky Swat seating...
  3. Sometimes I'm glad at school it was usually regarded as a bad idea to argue with me on this subject I remember a discussion/arguement over why Alton would never ever get a Stealth (they knew not of RITA nor the height limit, which is understandable)... Some family asked me once if there was a 'family row' for Vampire because there were 5 of them... Such a shame when you're working you have to be serious and not sarcastic to them
  4. Looks good... But tell me, how packed to the gills was it overall? Since my dad is possibly plotting such a trip in the future, and of course any information shared would be loved...
  5. Some people are just soooo idiotic... I blame the parents, so easily could've turned around and gone 'Don't worry, we'll buy you a new one', and have it at that... Alternatively done the whole tell and ride op, who in turn tells them to go to guest services and then at the end, searches for it and if it turns up it turns up... Last year we've had shoes and wallets lost on Vampire, and hats and rings lost on Bubbleworks... Because people don't wear trainers, no zip up pockets, and think they're easy to retrieve when the stuff has fallen into the water channel... And of course it's ALWAYS the ops/attendants fault when sommat wrong happens... People are idiots...
  6. Maybe they've played RCT a bit to much?
  7. Hmm, tis very much California's version... Not that that's a bad thing anyways, still an enjoyable ride regardless of the no forward motion and infamous exit hallway... Better sort out that trip for after college then... Specially with Crush there now as well...
  8. Deja Vu - Not bad at all, when compared to the normal Boomerangs which are insanely brutal... See also Invertigo... On the other hand, I still like to make my dislike of Tatsu and X known... And dislikement of SheiKra... So against the grain are those 3
  9. I think I saw Rob Van Dam at USH when I was over going on BTTF... Naturally, in the Express queue Dunno if it was really him, had the muscles and such for sure, and was with I assume his family... Don't mind as long as they don't overally flaunt the fact, unlike the Miami Dolphins did at IOA one year...
  10. Love some people's opinions not only on here but elsewhere about the B&M/Intamin bumming... According to park legend, the decision on the coaster not being a Flyer was due to the Alton guys saying how mechanically annoying it was for them, and considering Thorpe's record with dodgy opening of rides, doubt they'd want another AIR problem... People will still go on it, the mainstream will probably love it, especially over here, the over 90 degrees gimmick isn't THAT well known, hardly anyone knows of Oakwood, so Rage is probably more known due to Southend being within reasonable driving distance to London... BUT it looks good, apart from the lack of SRQ on it And bluea61, Chessie got the other Maurer Sohne, and of course, both went through numerous issues, so I doubt Tussauds/Merlin would wish to get more off them... And Pretzel Loops aren't that good, Tatsu's was an annoyance more than anything... Dunno if smaller ones are better, but big ones suck... OPINION
  11. ^What you can see of it that is I like what I hear that they've actually put some forms of halloween theming around the rides for a change, instead of changing the music and adding smoke and mist...
  12. AIR had some issues where the bar broke... But that wasn't really B&Ms fault was it?
  13. Lol, jumper...... Sounds like a typical Thorpe day, Stealth not open on time, Colossucks being rough, and I do agree, it's even MORE noticable on the lift.... No mention of Rush and Slammer, still not open the pair of them? Inferno is the best coaster there btw, FACT...
  14. I just can't understand why everyone loves Tatsu and X so much... I couldn't walk after going on Tatsu, and the Forces in the Pretzel were just too much over too long a period... X is rough... And over-hyped... Give me Goliath over those two anyday...
  15. When I went to SFMM, the only issues with the park I had was with the operations of it, and the crapness of the staff too busy chatting when there's people stuck in the restraint cos they stapled you in... I didn't particularly enjoy my days at MM, so it depends on whether or not you think it'll be worth the credits, X is over-hyped deliciously and Tatsu puts serious strain on the legs in the pretzel loop... But due to these, the rest of the coasters (Goliath, Scream Batman) are bout 5 minute queues... Universal is a fun park, the Tram Tour is naturally the main thing there, but you won't like RotM if you've been on the Orlando one, as that one is insanely better and more well-told, so it's up to you there... Disney is extremely enjoyable, bar long queues for the Subs and due to the Subs, Matterhorn's Discoveryland side But Adventure is a fun little park, CS and ToT are the two best rides there, so it's worth-while getting a park hopper... Since as you're going in September I believe the schools would be inside so it could be empty... Knott's is a nice park as well, just OTT on the rulings... Hope you enjoy whatever you do though...
  16. But Space Invader's quite good! PMBO is a decent choice for a marathon, though it's cold on normal days so I think they'll wrap him up towards the night, as it'll be FREEZING then... Choice of Boomerang just gives a 'What-were-they-on?' sensation...
  17. W00t, I work there!!!! But it has changed overall, fewer hoodies/chavs/evil teens go there now, that's Thorpe's job... Unfortunately, we get the lovely parents who moan at the slightest issue... We need more UK TRs I feel, this is like the only Chessie one of the year, and there've been like 2 Thorpe ones, one by me!
  18. Looks very nice.... Silly question, how d'you get the two separate trains to be differently coloured on the coaster?
  19. I'm going to go back onto the original topic quickly before we can return to making random (albeit pointless) posts... Someone on the last page hit it on the nail really, everyone MUST enter the queue at the same time. Now at Chessington this year, because of our Familt friendly stuff, we brought in a 'Pit Stop Pass', which is basically for families where the kid needs a wee whilst in line, they can go off to loo, and come back providing they have one and boom, back into the line they go... Though I've never had that given to me, so whether it works or not I don't know... Now if I'm at a meet at a park with one of my forum groups, and there's usually over 30/40 on a large scale trip, if we get split up entering a queue, the first lot wait till the rest catch up, this stops several going past a smaller group of people... If people queue jump right in front of you, you also don't have to argue, light up a smoke and deliberately blow it into their direction, not obvious but why not, they broke a rule, why can't you? My mates did that when waiting to go on X:/NWO, but I don't actually support it... Until the park management give us workers suitable means as to punish people, we can't do much. At Chessington, all I could do is say go to the back of the line, since I haven't really been informed as to what to do bout these situations. I may bring it up to my TL next time I'm there, because, even though us workers can jump the queue through Express, I won't because I'll find it unfair on the other sensible people who haven't paid for the privilege... So finally, I'm afraid that it's a problem we'll have to deal with, perhaps go to Guest Services next time instead of to a normal worker, and give examples of what other parks do, GS are usually pretty nice voer in the UK, but it's better than moaning to us poor workers who have to concentrate on more than one thing...
  20. The crab seems to love it... I need to got to Europa, looks brilliant and what-not, and I'm sure this ride is a nice addition to the park...
  21. The obvious main problem with any form of queue jumping is that it's one side versus the other... Now working at Chessington, on Dragon's Fury, I was batching, and one group said that the people in front had pushed in... No what could I do? Just assume they were correct and tell the people to go out, probably causing more trouble, considering I had no idea if it had happened? You gotta look into what the CM sees there, and in the situation, I said because I hadn't seen anything, I couldn't do anything... Simple... However, if I were in that situation as the CM, I would've chucked her out for the swearing... On the other side, being in the queue for Fury on a day off, several people had already pushed through, and I got annoyed, so stopped some kids who were then getting called over by the mum, who when we clashed in the station (got near each other), said to her kids, 'He's only a teenager, and he doesn't even work here...' Unfortuantely I couldn't grab my staff pass at that point to say, 'Oh wait I do, so shush please', but the whole 'just a teenager' thing got me, as the kids were probably younger than me... Oh, and they were white... Everyone does it, I did it once when I was really little and didn't know much better, but we need people to speak up about it, not let people through, and that's how we stop it. Plus allowing workers the power to bash people's heads together... But what you have to do, is try and keep a cool head in these things, there wasn't any swearing from you in your story, which is good, but I think better words could've been choosen over 'shut up', but as Robb has said, these things often give 'heat of the moment' phrases, which we often don't really mean, but come out with it, I've had that, but it's human nature... But as I said, parks need to be much more 'vicious' in regard to this, more signs for example, perhaps one or two more people in queues, people cleaning could be used... It's a problem that'll be around for a while... Simple as...
  22. When do you go to the park? It's always been over 30 minutes for me... But as said, go straight to Forbidden Valley, do Nemmie and Air as quickly as possible, good thing to know that all the major coasters at Alton have single rider queues, so if you don't mind not riding together, these are a must in case it's busy... After the Valley, take the Skyway over to Charlie, Hex, Rita and Corkscrew. You should do Hex last out of these 4, as due to the large capicity, it rarely gets a large queue, and it's often empty anyway at that time of day... Also, I've never had trouble with getting onto Charlie, that's an extremely daft rule, but it probably counts more towards large teenage groups... Then meander over to X-Sector and do Oblivion, which if busy, just run up the single rider q. I did this last time, and there was no-one in it, just mention to the person at the top (as it's also the express lane) you want to ride single rider and they'll let you in. Now with Spinball, you rarely have a little queue with it, mainly as it's closest to the entrance, so unless you fancy an hour queue for sommat like this, you are DEFINATELY better with te single rider, but even then, that'll take over 10 minutes at least, which is a shame... Then have lunch wherever you want, there's a great mixture, but stay around Spinball, preferably so you don't have to walk far and back to the next part, the Towers Family Restaurant was nice when I went into it, good sit-down and choice... After lunch, you can do the Merrie England/Katanga/Gloomy Wood trek, these rides aren't extreme and should not cause hassle to lunch, unless you do the Teacups of course, so do the Flume, Rapids, Train and Duel, and from here, that's all the rides... Of course should you have kids, you'll have to do Cred Street which is where Charlie is, and Storybook/Farmyard, which are near Spinball... Hope that helps...
  23. It's going to be one of the more interesting developments to follow in recent years as had been said for definate... I'll be disappointed if most of the DD Q theming is removed and replaced with tacky stuff that just narrowly fits into the new theming, but that's mainly cos of being used to so-called 'Tussauds re-themes'... But if the giant Hogwarts castle does come into existance, that'll be some site when completed, as would most of it actually... Plus, at least they have plausible material for when they have HHN to make it even more eerie and woss-names...
  24. Hmm... Very few reponses... But at least I ain't having to double-post... Regardless, moving onto the wooden coaster known as 'The Slugger', it's the park's oldest coaster, and has been kept in great condition over the numerous years of service it has provided the park with... Only a few images, mainly due to other areas around it needed to be kept under wraps till the next couple of updates, but some's better than none... Teaser for the first properly themed area, which was added in 2003... Hitting the brakes. Right next to the main restaurant in Shuker Street. Ohh, ain't it lovely. A photo used several times by the park owners on merchandise... The entrance, very old style.
  25. Not very, minimal queues of around 10 minutes per ride once they all opened, Rush had BOTH arms running though for the majority of the day, which was shocking.... But it did have the queue extension open earlier, but was empty when I go to it... They didn't play Inferno's new track when leaving/arriving, so that was annoying, but back row first train on a wet track isn't THAT bad... And though Det's top speakers now work, they're VERY quiet, and the one at the bottom is half silent as well, I struggled to hear even the 'hold on tight' recording... Tis bad... Shame I didn't get to go on Guest Services though and give another pop at SRQ and reliablity... And apparently Stealth did break down today, just not when I was there
