Paramount Parks - Ordered from Best to Worst
pkdcoaster replied to pkd804's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
mmmm It is hard for me to choose between PKI and PKD as top of the chain PKD PKI Canada's Wonderland (why does this park get no love......monopoly?) Carowinds (not a bad park at all) Great America I used to think PKI was better than PKD (90s) but I really think PKD is the better park now. I will break down my opinion of the similar rides Intamin freefall- PKD Top Spin- PKD Eiffel Tower- PKD (looks better) Arrow Looper - easily PKI racing woodie- PKD King Kobra WAS better than Shockwave Adventure Express is better than Avalanche IMO Junior woodie- PKD IJ/FOF-clones Beast/Son of Beast/Top Gun/Face-Off VS. Grizzly/Hurler/Volcano/Hypersonic PKD wins by a very small margin in those group of coasters even though I love Beast & Top Gun PKI used to be much better JEFF (plus PKDs Fountains are better too ) -
Volcano / Flight of Fear
pkdcoaster replied to Kingsdominion804's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can not believe people think they are actually moving these coasters. (some fools firmly believe it is already disassempled and the building is hollow, just read the forums at PKDplace.com for a good laugh.) It is CHEAPER for CF to buy clones than disassemble that ENTIRE ride piece by piece and ship it. It would take a construction crew a very long time to disassemble that entire ride/building piece by piece. FOF has not been touched since last year with the exception of laying the sign on the ground and the black fence. It will reopen at PKD!!, maybe not as Flight of Fear but it will reopen. I believe it was closed to help sell PKD, When CF sees the operating costs for this year the cost is much lower due to the power required to run it and it requires much more staff than a normal coaster. BGE(w) Photo TR
pkdcoaster replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Very nice pics Canobiefan, I am glad to see that I am not the only one that noticed BGW going downhill lately since 2000. I am surprised anybody likes Corkscrew hill Questor WAS THE BOMB!! best simulator I have ever been on. Yes, Alpengeist is far better than it was in 1998-1999 but still a far cry from the total Awesomeness it was in 1997 when it was pretty much brakeless. Hopefully kumba9 will influence management to bring back the old maintenance guys I have a question for you Kumba9, If you were working there in 1998. opening weekend did Alpengeist have a mishap (collision?) cause the following events in the next few months lead me to believe it did and sadly the ride has never been as kick ass as it was that weekend. TIA JEFF -
That would be because the lazy American teenagers that run the rides would complain. Did it look like the park was making a ton of money that day? edit: Elissa makes a very good point too Kumba9 remembers the good ol days ....look at what BGW schedule was like in 1992 that year they stayed open through the end of November, needless to say that they made very little money those days...it was cold and dead! The normal Sep & Oct schedule through 1997 was fri-tue....very odd indeed 98-99 was fri-mon 00-present fri-sun. Most coasters could run in the cold but the thing is not many people would ride them in the cold. reminds me of Apollos Chariot's opening day, High of 40 degrees F !!!!! JEFF

NEWS: Volcano a death machine
pkdcoaster replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It had a malfunction, 2 trains were damaged (fins & chasis), they are fixing them, supposed to open soon. I really would not expect to see a press release about it or anything. It is just one of those things that happens with mechanical devices and happens alot more than the press even knows about. JEFF -

Well after a really crappy weather week (can you say rain?) Me DPdragon and Mforce79 decided to go to PKD on Friday expecting a decent crowd given it is the Friday before 7-4 weekend and the past week has been really bad weather wise. Much to our surprise the park was dead! except the waterpark got really crowded after 2pm since temps were in the low 90s and the sun was shining bright. this is what we hit in 5 hours (and squeezing in the time to take over 270 pics ) I also have to add that ALL of the Wood coasters were running outstanding every one of them was running the best it has run in a LONG time. keep it up CF!!!! Volcano was still down of course, word is that they are repairing 2 trains, I looked at the launch area and could not notice anything damaged or out of the ordinary (no trains were visable). The dark Blue slides by Yell were open finally! so I ran in as the Waterpark opened to take some AWESOME pics of Rebel Yell Scooby doo-1 IJ-1 TRFF-2 Anaconda-1 Drop Zone-1 Shockwave-1 Rebel Yell-1 (C&E-2) Hurler-1 Grizzly-3 triple spin-1 hanna barbara thing-1 E Tower-1 well here are the pics and poor Chris lost 2 "close" members of his "personal" family that day My Sympathies Chris took some great pics too, hopefully he will share JEFF thanks guys for a great day! Beauty and the Beast....easy Beast don't hurt her! I'm so happy I could Crap Crazy from the heat I still have mine even though I don't need them anymore I have no more nuts to give!!!!!! Why does this park not want me to have kids? Dammit!!!!!! the other one is gone now!!!! Chris is thinking "hey I still got one nut" Will these dorks ever stop taking pictures Free half gallon of almost expired milk sent USPS in 10 days if you can find Chris and Erin in this pic They even erected a small tombstone for one of Chris' nuts he lost on this ride...at least he still has the other one HAIR!!!!! My fav pic of the day

I think the problem with the ride(DK) is I have been on Spiderman, so I was expecting a ride of similar quality. DK is not awful by any means...there are some cool moments but the biggest fault in my eyes is that the story makes no sense at all and it ends very abruptly. It felt like the writers had more but did not realize how short the ride was then just ended it. BGE also has made it more confusing this year by eliminating the preshow (from what I hear), which is very stupid cause it is a brand new story to everybody who has not ridden it. As far as the upgrades go I hear they are very subtle and probably most season passholders do not even recognize them. JEFF

I had one from 1991-2001 and went many times every year. 1990-Questor 1992-Drachen Fire 1993- Haunts of the old country (cool 4d show) 1994-land of the dragons (fun kids area that adults can do too) 1995- Escape from Pompei 1996- Wild Izzy/Maus (which was totally brakeless in 1996) 1997- Alpengeist 1998- Pirates (fun 4d show) 1999- Apollo since 2000 it has been the same thing with NOTHING new added (with the exception of DK last year) 2001-Ireland (rethemed area with awful sim ride) 2002- REMOVED Drachen Fire 2004- REMOVED Wild Maus 2005- Curse of Dark Castle...........meh 2007- Coaster If they do not feel the need to invest money into the park then why should I? Since 2001 I have gone about 3 times and everytime I have had free tickets and in those 3 times I bought 1 meal at the park. Even though the food is good and reasonably priced by theme park standards. It is a VERY fun and nice park but it being one of my home parks is a bit disapointing as far as multiple visits in a year. Just in time for season pass sales!! which I will finally get one (1st time since 2001) now that they will add something worthwhile. I am getting excited now that alot more details are coming out. Hopefully it will be good and they will actually do some theming to this one cause their last effort (theming) really blew! as for Swimace's comment about Alpengeist, You really should have rode it back in 1997 when it was alot better than Montu, after 1998 it has been a brakefest. NEWS: Volcano a death machine
pkdcoaster replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well this is getting interesting, the more info that is leaked out. of course more stupid comments like the brakes failing! but the copper comment is interesting given that the fins on the train are copper (or look like copper) *my theory*- fin got misaligned somehow and scraped the magnets and caused the sparks and pieces flying, but I wonder if this happened during the launch or when it was rolling back. From the injuries and nature of what happened (rollback) I am pretty sure this happened during the launch. we will see when PKD says what really happened (if ever) PKDs website has a note on its thrill ride page that Volcano is Closed today JEFF -

NEWS: Volcano a death machine
pkdcoaster replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would assume it would take a long time to evacuate from there, just because of the difficulty getting a lift machine in there to get people out of the seats. I notice there are metal rails lining the footers maybe they can put a portable platfrom across them but who knows. there is a platform in the mountain part of the launch runway....but that does not do them much good when the train stops at the begining of the launch area. Yes Viking86 you are correct Volcano still has the tallest/highest inversion unless somebody can find a higher one than 155ft. back to topic...reading the article again it does not even say the ride launched...even more crazy I always thought it was odd that they never had an evac. platform under the first part of the runway. How much do you wanna bet there will be one at the begining of 2007 now.....2 hours geez. JEFF -
http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/virginia/dp-va--rollercoasterstuc0623jun23,0,421163.story?coll=dp-headlines-virginia I do not understand this at all, Seems to me Volcano had a rollback and they could not re-fire it, One Guy claims to have a cut above his eye (how would the ride do this?) and another kids leg fell asleep so......rush them to the hospital ASAP and await a letter from their lawyer. must be a slow news day.
