  1. It doesn't matter what the Enthusiass Community thinks about KK, only the GP matters. This is just like when SFGAdv introduced SUF two years ago. It was a big yawn among the Enthusiasses, but the GP still stand in 2+ hour lines to ride. Kingda Ka is going to be HUGE with the GP, and bring many people to the park. The really important thing is once guests are at the park they are going to see a whole new attitude and look to the place from the minute they arrive unitl they leave, and they'll want to come back for more. We (the coaster people) will make up such a small percentage of the people going to the park, it really won't matter if we love it or hate it. The 28 million people who live within 100 miles of SFGAdv are the ones that count.
  2. The theme park train ride I liked best was at SFOG (when it ran steam), but now my favorite is BGW. They maintain their engines beautifully and take great pride in them.
  3. And they look like JLo from behind Check it out!
  4. It's possible, especially with the dollar being so low right now. They could buy a lot of parks with a little money!
  5. Now let's see if the same investment group swoops in and buys Paramount Parks, or Unviersal or Six Flags over here...
  6. I know exactly what you mean! I built my site for the same reason...sharing my loves of coasters and photography with the world! I went to godaddy.com and registered my domain, then found a hosting company which was cheap and reliable (see my site for the company I went with). I enjoy putting it together, and love getting feedback from people all over who come to see it. Originally I was footing the bill for hosting myself, but I recently added some of those google ads to help pay for web hosting. Good luck, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me directly.
  7. You really should credit the place you leeched the pictures from. They are all from the park's website, BTW.
  8. How can you automatically assume there will be major downtime? This is the second Strata Rocket, and the sixth rocket coaster INTAMIN has built. Don't you think they learned from the others they've built already? It's like looking at Wicked Twister before it opened and saying "it's only going to run at half capacity the first season, because Volcano: The Blast Coaster only ran at half capacity the first season".
  9. I don't think they would either because they don't own it!
  10. SFGAdv has had a film crew putting together footage of the Kingda Ka construction since the beginning of the project. They showed the video at this year's Eastcoaster (and it was great)! The video is now posted on their site: http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/index.asp, and everyone should check it out. They changed the music (it was done to the U2 song form the i-Pod commercials), but it's still a really cool video! BTW- Trains are on the track, pull through is supposed to happen in th enext day or two, and testing soon after. The station is getting the roof put on as I type.
  11. Six Flags sold off the Old Indiana property. I would imagine those have all been scrapped by now, but does anyone know for sure? It's a pity to see them all like that...I'd love to see someone build Old Skool World, with all the Arrow Shuttle Loops, and Corkscrews and the INTAMIN Bobsled, and a couple of mine trains, and any other old coaster you can name. Some of those are great rides...
  12. This was mentioned in another thread, and I was curious what was going on (and didn't want to take the thread off topic), so I'll ask here: Does anyone know what the status is of Tidal Wave/Greazed Lightning from PGA? I understand it's still sitting in the SFMW parking lot, but did Six Flags buy it, or are they still holding it for the Schwarzkopf Family to take back to Germany (that was the last rumor I heard about it), or what? Along the same lines, does anyone know what happened to the Shockwave trains from SFGAm? I've heard at least one went to SFMM, but does anyone know about the others? I figure someone on here has to have some "insider" knowledge.
  13. Without a doubt, I think Scorcher is the best standup built to date. It's layout is great, and just enough (unlike it's bigger brothers Chang, Riddlers's and Mantis, which seem to try too hard). It's my second favorite coaster at SFOG, close behind Mind Bender.
  14. It looks cute, but not "run right over to PKI to ride it" exciting. If they built The Addams Family coaster (which is what I voted for in the ride survey), I'd be camped out in the parking lot right now!
  15. I love B&M, but INTAMIN has them beat at this point. If only INTAMIN could improve their reliability to B&M's level... :?
  16. I won't give anything away for everyone on the west coast, but tonight had some great moments, and the grossest challenge I've seen them do. I would have failed that challenge miserably! lackeye: (BTW-We need a nausea emoticon!)
  17. Mind Bender...love it! I disagree about their wood sucking though. Cyclone is rough, but in a fun way, and GASM is a real blast in the back seat. Plenty of air there!
  18. Being a park character is fun! In used to be (about 18 years ago) a famous rabbit, at a major theme park in New Jersey. It was cool, because I did all the commercials and appearances for the rabbit's 50th brithday, which was cool because I met the original animators (Chuck Jones and Fritz Freleng).
  19. I was shocked by MS. It exceeded any expectations I had of it. I hate simulators I hate spinning rides I loved Mission Space This was the first simulator I've bene on where the visuals and forces really matched up, and it really felt like you were doing what it said you were doing. Well done ride, Disney! Moon over Mission Space...
  20. And they have job security, great benefits and a pension. Not many jobs have that in our United Red States of America anymore.
  21. I know they're a month old, but I just posted a bunch of SheiKra pictures on my website. This looks like a fantastic ride. Busch and B&M collaborations never fail to impress me.
  22. I either want Susan & Patrick or Debbie & Bianca to win. They all seem like nice, honest people who you want to root for. I'm glad The Brothers weren't eliminated. They're likable, unlike Rob & Amber, and interesting unlike the POW and Beauty Queen.
  23. Nice find. Of course, since it's from an official Disney source, you only get to see what they want you to, but it's nice to get a glimpse inside anyway!
  24. That's funny, because I used to be a projectionist! I know what you mean about the math thing...I wanted to be an architect at one point but the math held me back from beocming Art Vandelay, Architect.
  25. I'm kind of curious to find out what my fellow coaster fanatics do for a living. Also curious to pose my favorite job interview question to everyone: If you didn't have to worry about money and could do absolutely anything, what would your dream job be? I'll start off by saying I work for a software company, and we make software for the pharmaceutical companies. I work in the training department, teaching people to use our software. If I didn't have to worry about money, I would pursue photography as a career. I love to take pictures, but it's hard to break into the field.
