Carowinds Discussion Thread

^I don't think it took very long to actually construct the lift hill on DB. But it did get slowed down because it was going right over an active pathway on the weekends, and in a pretty tight and hilly spot. I remember seeing them squeeze in the trucks with the lift hill track on the pathway....quite entertaining. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
mudvayneimn replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Too bad the park is closed on Sunday for a private event. This weekend would've been completely awesome if it wasn't...the largest firework show in the U.S. on Saturday, and then Diamondback on Sunday. Oh well, I will definitely have to go up on the 25th. I've never been on a B&M hyper, and this will finally give me something to possibly knock SFOT's Titan down a notch. -
I bought all four of them, and got to download one, now everything is maximum number of downloads exceeded. Not too sure if it was me or the site, I tried two browsers and got the same thing. The one that did download is now on my Ipod and I'm loving it, I'll just try tomorrow for the others. Thanks Robb for putting these in Ipod format!

I guess people mistake peach for "faded". I think the scheme looks good. I didn't like it at first but the more I look at it, the more I think it's nice that they chose a scheme outside of red/blue/white/yellow. -
Ever had a black out on a coaster?
mudvayneimn replied to Dark Vampire's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On my 16th consecutive run on Titan at SFoT I started blacking out at the end of the second helix. The 17th run I blacked out during all of the second helix, and on my 18th run I "blacked" in and out from the beginning of the first helix to the final turn to the brakes. At that point I realized what was happening and decided to ride something else. I've heard that they ban consecutive rides on Titan/Goliath now, but the day I went (year it opened) they did not. -
Behemoth MHR
mudvayneimn replied to Imagineer100's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to admit I laughed rather loud after reading the first few posts, which in turn caused everyone around me to stare intensly like I just pulled a bunch of MHR out of my pocket. I love working on Sundays! -
Also, if you're trying to see the Names like "Beast", "Behemoth", "Volcano" that everyone is talking about just right-click on the visitkingsisland.com main page and hit view source. Oh and it has gone back to . Komodo would be a kick a$$ name, although I don't believe that will be the actual name for the ride.

How many times the same ride in a day ?
mudvayneimn replied to mingsai's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Any chance I get I will marathon a good ride. I got to ride Greezed Lightnin' at SFKK 68 times in a row before my riding partner got "sick"....I got up to 72 by the end of the day. I attacked The Voyage while local school was still in session the year it opened and got to ride 27 times in a row with my niece, then went back later to get a total of 35 before the park closed. During a summer in Texas I went to SFOT on a tuesday and stayed on Mr. Freeze for 22 cycles. I walked over to Titan and had 18 almost continuous rides (I had to go back in line twice) but I had to cut it short because I started blacking out around ride #14. At that point I walked right back over to Mr. Freeze which still had no line and got about 12 more out of it before I left for home. -
I would have to say that definately is the sun shining on (or off depending on how you percieve things) the green tracks. Great updates! Glad to see this color scheme stay (i've always thought it was sexy) but for some reason the name "Aftershock" with this paint scheme doesn't work in my eyes...which is weird because a name like Aftershock doesn't envoke any specific colors, except maybe brown and red... Heck I guess you could throw in some orange and black there as well, maybe some smoky grey or slate blue matched up with some sunglow or goldenrod yellow....yeah, I'm just going to stop this post now.

My first inverting coaster was B:TR at SFSL. It was during the year they were constructing Mr. Freeze, we were on our way out of the park, I noticed it and I just had to get on it. My cousin wimped out so it ended up being just me, by myself in the first row. I was a young one back then and as the gates opened I got that "I have to poop" feeling. But once the train crested the lift, I fell in love with roller coasters.

^It looked like a great park. Such a sad fate for a wonderful looking park. -
This article really got to me. I couldn't even read the whole thing before I started writing some feedback to give to Ms. Elizabeth Williams. Here's what I submitted (it will probably cast out or not recognized). If it doesn't make sense at some points, it is because there were a lot of things going through my head and I couldn't type them fast enough. I also didn't bother to read it before I submitted it. Nice article, very interesting read. I do not fully understand why this article seemed to carry the undertone that amusement parks do nothing to make sure their guests are safe. The government can regulate all they want but when it really comes down to injuries at amusement parks, most are caused by the rider themselves. Grouping Amusement and Theme Parks together with Fairs really upset me. There is a stark difference between those two types of parks. Most incidents that happen at fairs are caused by faulty rides that stem from a lack care for the customer's safety, but at Theme and Amusement parks it's a different story. I used to work at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and I can say that there are strict safety policies and regulations in place. Now the accident on Superman: Tower of Power is a complete freak accident and is one of the few news stories where the ride itself can be blamed for the rider's injuries. When it comes to safety at parks, people must realize that these are machines that, if used the wrong way can injure, or even kill. Many of the accidents that involve children at amusement parks are initiated by the parents themselves. From first hand experience I can say that many leave common sense at the front gate. Parents see a ride, want to take there children on it, and will go so far as to threaten, scream, or curse if their child isn't let on. Why would any responsible parent push so hard to get a 3-4 year old on one of these machines? Because they don't pay attention to the all the Warning signs in the queue line, or the audio that blasts safety information every 3 minutes. When people enter the park they automatically assume that everything there is for every single person in the family, or they can judge the intensity of a ride by how high it is off the ground. When I worked at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom I was 17 years old. I was a ride operator on the Roadrunner Express roller coaster. Almost everyday I was yelled at, cursed at, or threatened at least once by a 30-50 something father or mother because their kids couldn't ride the coaster; many times because the children were half an inch under the minimum height requirement. Don't tell me that Kentucky Kingdom doesn't care about rider's safety; that's priority number 1. Safety is the park's responsibility, but insuring that everyone is safe at amusement parks is everyone's responsibility. To really understand how it is and how many of these accidents can occur you have to spend a day in 100 degree heat, with a family whose upset because on there own terms, decided the ride was safe enough for 4 year old Cody to enjoy, stood in an hour long line, just to get to the platform and be turned away. Keep in mind that they HAD to pass the huge safety information signs (that are required by law), accompanied with a self measure height stand (which CANNOT be missed), and the whole time safety info and height restrictions are playing throughout the line. There is no excuse for any responsible parent to disregard all of that, yet thousands of families do it each and every day amusement parks are open. The issue I have with this article (and many similar ones) is that they sound like they were written not to inform, but to scare. These articles always seem like they aim to completely destroy Amusement Park's reputations, but never question why 4 year old Cody was forced onto the "Demon Drop" or the "G-Force Coaster" by his parents in the first place. These articles always seem to state that "so many have died at parks this year" but never mention that Billy lost his hat on the coaster, jumped the restricted area fence when he got off the ride, was being yelled at fiercely by the ride ops to get out of there, while at the same time they are E-stopping the ride, causing panic on the coaster train that has just stopped abruptly on the lift hill. Unfortunately, the second train that is currently traveling the course has just passed the mid-course safety brake, and is now once again under the influence of Earth's gravity. Billy has almost reached his hat, while the coaster train has almost reached Billy. He retrieves his hat and tries to jump the 8ft high fence he shouldn't have climbed over in the first place, but the train catches up with him, and his neck is broken by the leg of a rider in the front row. Now Billy's dead, a guy has to live with the fact that his leg (which is now shattered) just killed a man. A man abandons all reason and common sense over a hat, is killed and leave's multiple people injured and traumatized. Now you tell me that is the park's fault with a straight face. All safety procedures had been taken, the ride ops did what they could, the park sealed off unsafe areas, which have BIG danger signs posted all along the fence, and yet someone manages to end up dying and becoming a statistic in a news article about how unsafe parks are. I know you spent a lot of time making this article, but it comes off as a fear creator. Not to me, millions of Amusement park employees, or coaster enthusiasts, but to the Swanson's whose three children are raised by responsible parents, parents who actually use common sense when the family is out and about. They see this article and miss out on one of the best experiences a family could have together. Thank you for reading my feedback, I hope this isn't just disregarded as senseless opinion. EDIT: Edited into paragraphs to make it easier to read. Please be sure to spend the extra time and "bother to read it" before posting. -Joey

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
mudvayneimn replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This ride is looking amazing! I really like the color of this ride, and once the trains are rolling, it's going to look even better! I'd just like to add that with B&M hypers (especially new ones) the max angle of descent is usually a very small section of track (like right before the pullout begins). And when I say small, I'm talking like no more than 3 ft of track, so it is highly probable that the angle of the drop does reach 85*, but we just can't see it very good. -
Wow, that video on CNN is creepy. There was one shot (I think about 17 sec in) where the smoke was drifting off to the left of the screen, and it really did remind me of a video of the WTC on Sept. 11th from across the river. Wasn't there a fire last year that came pretty close to SFMM? If there was is it in the same location as last time?

SFKK Fright Fest questions
mudvayneimn replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1) Can't really help you with this one. 2) Most likely heavier than a normal day (that's not too bad though. You just gotta watch out for Chang and Thunder Run). 3) Last time I went to the park, the prices were: 1 person: $20 2 people: $30 3 people: $40 The prices might have changed since the last time I visited the park. Also, since it is later in the operating season and it's fright fest, the park might have special prices going on for the skycoaster. Hope that helped you a little bit more. -
Well, they really didn't get it "off the shelf", it would be more like, "off the front lawn" since this isn't a brand spankin' new coaster/clone... But the colors sound wicked... Seriously though, what were they thinking? I mean their Boomerang is taller than this ride. "Let's name our second shortest thrill coaster Goliath!" That's ok though, it's not like the name is going to affect the ride experience for me anyway...

^ That was pure génsomeness! Just what I needed at 12:48 a.m. Two more days (possibly one?) until the announcement. Ugh, this is killing me, and I really don't want to die before the announcement... Edit: If you want to get technical, the sentence should read: One more day (possibly today?) until the announcement. Ugh, this is killing me, and I really don't want to die before the announcement...
