Favorite Standalone Haunts?
supertrooper replied to Stephen G's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My new favorite is The Dent Schoolhouse in Cincinnati. http://www.frightsite.com/ I just moved to the area, so I had never heard of it and didn't know what to expect. I was extremely impressed by the amount of detail put into everything. The haunt is inside an old schoolhouse (built in the 1800s) and is themed around the story of a janitor that abducted and murdered students and kept the bodies in the basement in the 1940s-1950s. All of the costumes, props, and themed rooms go along with the story and everything makes sense (no going from witches, to clowns, to zombies, to aliens, etc.). There is a nurses office, an art room, a biology room, a locker room, a cafeteria, a playground, an auto shop, a library, a school carnival (had to fit clowns in somehow), and more. I felt like I was in a horror film. I am going to go back again in a couple of weeks, just so I can take in some more of the detail. There is an hour long video on youtube about it that is pretty interesting. -

The Boomerang Challenge

Only 3 (Kentucky Kingdom, SFOT, and The Great Escape). I don't really care about credits, so if I don't think I'll enjoy the ride, I pass it up...which is generally the case with boomerangs. Edit: forgot about Kings Island. So 3 standard, 1 inverted. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I attended Pride Night last night, and although there was a threat of storms all night, it never rained...I guess "god" loves gays after all! We were evacuated from Windseeker because of high winds, but it later re-opened and we were able to ride it. The longest line all night was for Flight of Fear (20 minutes), everything else was a walk-on. After all of these years, a night ride on the Beast is still the best ride in the park. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Sadly, El Toro, on the last day of the Northeast tour last summer. I'm going to Kings Island on Friday though...so that's...okay? -
2013 TPR Tour Questionnaire is out!

I'm surprised at the length of the Midwest trip...San Antonio to Sandusky is quite a haul. I was hoping that it would finish out at Kings Island so I could end up at home and get away with only having to purchase a one way ticket. Oh well...that's the one I'm most interested in....mainly for the new Rocky Mountain coasters and City Museum. -
What does that even mean? He's clearly referring to the fact that the addition of Full Throttle with cement Magic Mountain's lead over Cedar Point as the ultimate coaster park. See, Cedar Point can only remain a successful park as long as it is able to keep its coaster count roughly equal with Magic Mountain. We coaster enthusiasts live by the principal "Quantity Over Quality." The war between Cedar Point and Magic Mountain is an INCREDIBLY important issue to us. Why do you think Magic Mountain keeps removing non-coaster rides and adding new coasters with short layouts? Because they are trying to cram in as many of those things into the park as they possibly can! So yes, Cedar Fair is without a doubt "son done for." I couldn't put it any better myself. I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not but Cedar Point can still remain a very sucessful park without having to keep up with SFMM coaster count. Remember they do not compete in the same region so the coaster war count is more for bragging rights and their sucessfulness does not hinge on the fact if they can keep up with SFMM coaster count. And no, Cedar Point is in no way "son done for!" You couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic? I thought that was the most beautiful piece of sarcasm I've read in quite some time.

This. Other than being a gimmick, can anyone come up with a good reason that it launches backward for a few feet? Maybe....it launches backwards briefly (that launch acts as a block), comes back down through the forward launch which also engages the first launch on the other train (so they can be synched through/over the loop)? I don't know...I'm not knowledgable about this stuff.

SFOT - You're Fired!!

I doubt the dude is ever going to post again. It seems like he just wanted to rant about his day. The same post is probably copied and pasted on tripadvisor and yelp. He most likely just googled "review theme parks" and this is what he got. -

I think it was the weekend before Halloween. We waited in line over 3 hours I believe, but it seemed to go by pretty quickly. -

The Cutting Edge in Fort Worth is pretty good. http://www.cuttingedgehauntedhouse.com/ It used to be the longest in the world, not sure if that's still the case though. It's in an old meat packing warehouse and it took a little over an hour for us to go through last year. It has some pretty freaky stuff in it, including exiting through a room of foam (there is a side exit if you are too claustrophobic) and a maze that that you have to find your way out of using only a glowstick. The actors don't yell or make any noises (which is kind of trippy) and they don't play scary music or sound effects...instead they play industrial/gothic dance music. It's a good time.
