  1. I think it actually fused itself with the brake platform.... Has that lady ever came back for her earring? BTW, that was your 666th post. 666!!! GASP! Erm, no she hasnt because, and I quote, " We have to drive to florida tomorrow, so f*** you for not letting me get my earring"

  3. I had another stupid guest today... She had lost her earring on the breaks for afterburn, something that happens occasionally. And as usual, i told her that we could get it for her when the ride closed at the end of the night. At about 6 (we closed at 8) there was a supercell thunderstorm enveloping the park. Afterburn was struck by a bolt of lightning, and no more than 50 seconds later they had come up the stairs and asked us if we could go and get her earring. My supervisor told her that we couldnt get it for plainly obvious reasons, then she asked if she could go out there and get it. Meanwhile at least 4 bolts of lightning had struck during this conversation. She then stormed off after cursing him out for not letting her get her earring.
  4. Two days ago at Afterburn, I had one guest ask me as the train entered the station "Can we ride it backwards?" umm.... yeah, let me just put all the electric motors in reverse..... And a week ago at rip roarin rapids I was at one of the posts that are located along the ride from time to time. And at these posts are job is to make sure everyone is seated with their seatbelts strapped, and that they are not sticking their hands into the water. This one guy had gotten out of his seat, and was standing, trying to switch seats. After I asked him to sit back down, he said "but i dont want to get wet!" ...... Makes me wonder why people ride water rides if they dont want to get wet.... And sure enough i heard the guy in the post next to me telling him over the intercom to sit down as well.
  5. You may not have an answer for me, but what are those metal things located underneath the upstop wheels on only one site of each of the trains? This pictures shows them fairly well
  6. Yeah i can understand that, but you must also understand what it is like to be a ride op. Until about a week ago at Afterburn, our policy was that you could ride again in your row it no one was in line for it. So we would have most of the people in those rows staying on, but when the others realized that, they would jump into any empty seat, which was usually someone's who happened to be putting their stuff into one of the cubbies. This caused a lot of chaos and confusion which greatly slowed down our operations. Now our policy is that you must get off no matter what, and if you want to reride you have to get back in line. It decreases our dispatch times greatly by doing this.
  7. Actually, White Lightnin' was one of six launched rides that opened in 1977 (King Kobra at KD, Tidal Wave at CGA, Screamin' Demon at KI, Loop Coaster at SFNE, Zoomerang at Circus World). Vortex was the third B&M stand-up (preceded by Iron Wolf and CGA's Vortex). Thunder Road is 17 feet shorter than Screamin' Eagle, which also opened in 1976. And Carolina Cyclone was one of four rides opening in 1980 with four inversions (Demon at SFGAm and CGA, Orient Express at WoF). Did you know that Carowinds used pictures of CGA's Vortex in its 1992 guide? Strange, I remember seeing news articles about people recalling riding TR when it was the tallest and fastest. I sort of assumed that they were correct. I heard White Lightnin was the second launching coaster from higher ups in the park. Out orientation class told some of the history of the park, including how Rip roarin rapids was the first of its kind (and perhaps the white lightnin fact...? I believe this is also where I had heard about the cyclone tid-bit.) And I read in a book that vortex was the second B&M standup.
  8. Wow, At Afterburn in Carowinds we had 3 op operations on a saturday, and we were able to finish checking each train just as the other was hitting the safety brake, which is the brake before the turn.
  9. ^ if it is like carowinds, it is now called cornerstone cafe
  10. Perhaps what they could do, is to build magnetic brakes along the water splash, so it is a brake run, which is strait anyways. then once the splash is over, the train will travel up a small hill to get out of the water. The train wont need any more of a brake run after the splash down except enough for the train to sit.
  11. ^ me too! sucks... Thats good to hear, especially with my brother being allergic to 6 of those
  12. Did you know? Carowinds is located upon one of the underground railroad routes ( dont know the accuracy of this one, but it came from a bit higher up, not some random employee) The carousel is said to be haunted by one of the railroads attendees Carowinds featured the first river rapids ride, the second launching coaster in the U.S. The second B&M standup, the tallest coaster in the world (thunder road at the time), the first roller coaster to have 4 inversions, and the first second generation drop tower from intamin. The park used to have two trains, it sold one of them to michael jackson for his neverland ranch.
  13. During the deconstruction of Thunder Road. Darkstitch and I went to the park and managed to get a rather large chunk of wood, with some bolts in it from one of the guys working on the ride. All we had to do was ask.
  14. It certaintly is visually appealing, I just hope it works as well as it looks although I wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt. Where are the pin locks, I dont see them in either of the two pictures that they would've been in
  15. ^ i know how that feels
  16. ^ Having no recollection of that lake obviously doesnt help me much here but, it seems like both of you have fairly good ideas of what to expect from this ride. I cant wait to see how it turns out, and am looking forward to more construction pics
  17. ^ cant beat that logic! Great TR! I'm loving the captions that you have come up with for it. cant wait to see the rest.
  18. ^ Lucky, Minis' are nice cars. Too bad they are front wheel drive though. Currently I drive a 2001 ford Taurus station wagon... But I'm looking into perhaps buying a 1991 mazda miata.
  19. ^ glad to hear that your enjoying it!
  20. ^ same here, I personally know the effects of cancer. My aunt is going through it right now and it has changed my entire families look on life.
  21. Over the past 3 weeks I've gotten two pretty good ones.... Just yesterday after I had locked all of my section of the train at Afterburn, the operator had noticed that the person in the first row was asking for help/struggling, something like that. So he told me to go and assist her. When I got to the front row I asked her what was the matter and she asked "Can you loosen this (restraint) on me? I just got a boob job" ...... That was really awkward.... A couple weeks ago, 2 or three, Afterburn broke down, Being at the position I was at, I had to talk to the guests on the train that was stuck halfway on the lift, and halfway in the station. I gradually made my way to the front of the train telling guests that there was something wrong and that we should be getting it fixed soon. At about the middle of the train one kid asked me "So the other one is stuck upside down!?!?!?!?" and she started freaking out...
  22. ^ cool, Whats your nametag read, ill come and visit you sometime
