Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
redfoot12 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I305 was my #1 steel pre-trim and tied for #1 post-trim. I'm just curious if the removal of that section of the track is the sign of something significant coming or just some minor tweaking. I think there could be some interesting possiblilities out there. I do agree with Robb that hounding KD for comment is a little ridiculous at this point. -

Maybe KD is adding a winkie to I305? -

^I guess you didn't see his winkie at the end of that statement. -

I spoke with Pat Jones I305's opening weekend and she gave me the impression that it was quite the feat to have the ride running opening weekend. -

To be fair, do you really think it's the best idea for Clint to be bothering the park every time something happens? For Christ sakes, let the park do whatever off-season maintenance they need to do WITHOUT stupid enthusiasts bothering them every time someone at the park cuts a fart. I see things going on ALL THE TIME at Six Flags Magic Mountain when I drive by, but I don't bother to phone them every time I see a crane by Goliath or something like that (Which I just saw on Monday or Tuesday when I drove by), because off-season maintenance...INCLUDING removing parts of a ride is TOTALLY NORMAL during the off season! This one is just more visible than other rides because it's FREAKING HUGE. While I don't know whether this is "totally normal" or not I will reiterate what Robb said earlier in this thread that there wasn't ample enough time to fully test the ride because of the unusual amount of snow Virginia received last winter. Couldn't this be an extension of that process? The trims may have been a stop-gap solution until this off-season. However, taking apart of this track may not amount to anything. Either way, when parts of a brand new roller coaster with its kind of of history are taken out, speculation will run rampant. -

^Maybe they need to remove the track to make room for cranes? -
Ever since I saw one of those Discovery coaster specials from the late 90's/early 00's featuring Shivering Timbers I wanted to visit this park. I don't know if ST is as good as it was when it first debuted but it at least seems to have faired better than other CCI coasters. Still trying to map out in my head the best coaster trip that could include this park.

I don't know if it would work in that space or not but maybe that first turn could become an OVERBANKED turn. One feature that I would have enjoyed on the ride. -
Thanks for the feedback so far, guys! Another strategy/plan I was thinking about would be for Cedar Fair to implement a Q-bot system into their parks. I'll have to do some research but I can imagine that it's a decent revenue earner for Six Flags. It might go a long way to help out with some of the debt from the Paramount purchase. If you guys can think of any other strategies that would benefit the company (and my group's report) post 'em here!

I'm taking a Strategic Management class and as part of that class my group has to choose a company and present a 3-year strategic plan and we chose Cedar Fair. One of my thoughts would be to (sorry folks in Northern Cal) close California's Great America and sell the land then use the capital to reinvest in a built-from-the ground up park in the Phoenix area. This idea came mainly from the thread about what area of the country could use an amusement park. I was wondering if folks from the Phoenix area could provide some feedback on a theoretical area to open such a park (land that has good road access would be ideal). I'm open to other suggestions as well, such as a park name, themed areas (well, as themed as Cedar Fair gets), rides, etc. Would the Phoenix area welcome and support a new amusement park? Keep in mind that the park would be opened in stages. I personally think a GCI woodie as well as some of the steel coasters and rides from CGA could start off the park. Maybe a dark ride. Later stages and years could see a maverick style ride, a B&M hyper, or whatever. CGA has been cited as an area that's land-locked and there doesn't seem to be much room for growth. I think a new park for Cedar Fair in an untapped area could work. If other people think that nuking CGA isn't necessary for a new park to work I'd like to hear thoughts on that as well. I know there's a great deal of Cedar Fair hate. I'm by no means a Cedar Fair fan boy but the company is in better (not by a whole lot) shape financially than Six Flags to try to pull something like this off. Any suggestions would be welcome. Any roadblocks for this idea are also welcome.

If SFA were truly neglected then nothing would get repainted, no marketing would be done, Thomas Town wouldn't have opened, and a host of other things. Everyone knows that SFA is not one of the featured parks in the chain. Accept it. SFA still has 2 top-tier coasters in Superman and Wild One (and I would include Batwing too personally), be grateful for what you have. This thread has become one of the biggest jokes on the site.

Done! I haven't been on one of these since King Kobra at KD in the early 80's. That was my first looping coaster and I remember both loving and being frightened by it! I agree the new coaster (if they end up getting one) will probably not be something too spectacular. I'd like to see a spinning mouse or one of the smaller EuroFighter models (they're all the rage in the US now!). As was mentioned earlier, maybe the park can get Led Zeppelin/Time Machine (which I never rode). Not to get too off topic, but the reviews for LZ/TM were pretty mediocre. Could there be anything done to spruce it up if it were to be relocated to KK (or some other park)?

I loved Deja Vu at SFoG. I can't wait to someday make it to Silverwood (The woodies don't look that bad either!) -
Why not? If I were starting an amusement park I'd want to keep my finger to the pulse of the enthusiast community for feedback with what does and does not work. While starting a park is nothing to sneeze at, at least there seems to be some organization and legitimacy to what Jeff's group is doing. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56591

I've only been on Gwazi, Wildcat, and Lightning Racer but I'm not too impressed with GCI so far. I've only been on one Gravity Group--Boardwalk Bullet--so I can't comment too much on them either. One ride I'd consider "copying" is Shivering Timbers. It's very photogenic and has maintained a decent level of popularity for over 12 years. My favorite coaster overall is El Toro and I would love to see another Intamin prefab in the US. I would definitely make a road trip to Louisiana to ride one. While not exactly an element I would love to see the type of air time a rider receives between 2:20 and 2:26 on more wooden coasters! This is probably my most favorite part of any roller coaster I've ever ridden!

They should at least update their website with links to these news stories. There hasn't been any update in almost two weeks.
