Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
redfoot12 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow. Way to be a debbie downer. While we obviously won't know any specifics until the official announcement I appreciate the park reaching out to enthusiasts and "playing" with us a bit. And, really, this viral campaign is reaching a very niche group of people. Speculation can be fun for enthusiasts and it helps build hype and anticipation for the park. Nothing wrong with either. -
Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
redfoot12 replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What Dave was saying about Phoenix kind of hit home for me. It's my #2 woodie but my wood count is kind of low at 30. I loved it but I didn't think it was as awesome as some people made it out to be. For right now Phoenix just seems to be saving the #2 spot for Boulder Dash, Balder, or maybe even Voyage -
^^^I rode it when I was 16 (before the re-profile) and remember feeling headachy right after. I remember liking the layout and the forces but the headache muddled things up for me. Unfortunately, that was the only time I rode it as my friend wasn't a fan and didn't want to ride it again. Chuck--can you create a "memories are inconclusive" category?

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
redfoot12 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually, I'd have to disagree with the "fat" part of this. I was able to ride I305 without issue all last year but got denied a ride on Apollo's. That said, fat coaster enthusiasts shouldn't complain about not being able to fit on a ride. You made the decision to eat a diet consisting of the McGangBang, not Intamin. I do agree with the "Intamin haters" though. I've seen lots of Intamin hate bias because they're not as "reliable" or what not. -
Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
redfoot12 replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw at least one other enthusiast site's posts about this year's poll and I just rolled my eyes. Others in the thread seemed to be devaluing Mitch's poll entirely and that you could see TPR's influence in the poll because of all the international and Intamin woodies in the top 10. My take is that just because a coaster is in a different country that you may never ride doesn't mean it's any less deserving of a high ranking. While I've only ridden El Toro, if it's any indication of the other Intamin prefabs out there then they should be ranked highly. That doesn't have anything to do with what TPR says but just validates that Intamin designs incredible coasters. -

Haven't ridden Voyage yet but I'm very intrigued by it. It has such a large online fanbase I can't wait to try it. I was disappointed to hear it was tearing itself apart after its first season. El Toro is my #1 overall coaster and it pretty much buries all the other woodies I've ridden. I'd love to have a close #2 or a tie with it. Hopefully I'll get to ride Voyage with Timberliners soon. -

I blame Intamin. I blame the proximity of the SFA Thread and that park! More disturbing--Midwest nutcases or SFA weirdos... Discuss!!! -

Yes! Long live the trims! err... I mean... Good riddance! I wasn't a fan of the trims but the ride was still awesome with them on. Can't wait to ride it the way I (sort of) remember it from last April and May! -

Since I wasn't able to do TPR Northeast trip I was thinking about doing a mini-trip that weekend. Might try to make room for this. Went to Hershey for the first time last September and had a blast. -

I actually post a lot in that "too fat to ride" thread. I kind of went off in one of my posts because nobody ever stayed on course and everyone was always gaining their weight back. Sorry if I offend any religious types, but there's one guy who's really hefty and gives all the credit for when he loses weight to God and Jesus. I want to shake him and be like "So is God playing a cruel joke on you by making you constantly gain and lose weight? Take some responsibility. If you're the one who gains weight, it's through your will, not God's, that you lose the weight!" I'm at my lowest weight in 7 years so I've been on my high horse in that thread for a while. Now I'm not really "too fat to ride" anything. -

An Intamin mega would definitely call for a 2012 visit. I wonder if they'll go for something Superman/Bizarro like or Expedition Geforce. -

I have no insight into the construction/engineering portion of coasters. So this might sound like a stupid question-- With all this reconfiguration, do whole sections of track have to be manufactured or do they reuse some of the older sections? Or maybe it's a combination of both. Just wondering. Edit to add: Voted! I305 is losing slightly to I232. I hope a bunch of "Intrimidator" malcontents aren't sabotaging this! Edit to also add: I've only ridden I305 so I know this poll will be the most unbiased coaster poll yet! -

^I hear ya. There just seems to be a lot of "if you post on this group's board then you will be banned on another group's board" going on. -

When I first got into coaster enthusiast mode around 5 years ago I joined that site and TPR within days of each other. Each site was good to visit for different reasons. In the last few years there hasn't really been all that much discussion on the boards. The only thread I really posted on was the one Robb mentioned where people were concerned about fitting on certain rides because of their weight. (At this point I've lost enough weight where I can fit on pretty much any ride although Cedar Point may pose the true challenge.) I made a decent friend on that site and he remains at odds with TPR, which is his right. Overall, I guess I'm miffed that we're at a point where we have to "choose sides" as roller coaster enthusiasts. Wish there was some more unity across the board* *Except for ACE -

Hey Robb--You can take this for what it's worth--I don't always agree with everything "online" Robb Alvey does but in person I've met you and you seem like a fun, nice guy so I take the online stuff I don't like with a grain of salt. It's the Internet, people. Just a bunch of 1's and 0's. If people are getting so invested in something in a virtual setting then I can only imagine the travesty their real lives are like. I enjoy the site, the club, and the trips. Carry on! -
