Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Unless there stupid, they would have a mechanical backup, not just a backup genarator, so the train won't roll back if the LSMs fail without the power cutting out. -

My guess is the lift will have rollback things on it so that it is possible for a stop, but it may not, anyone else know? I have the answer to this. You don't need antirollbacks because the LSM's act as brakes. "Each has its advantages and disadvantages,” explains Kernacs. “The LSM coaster is a more complex design and requires more sensitive sensors, but it produces twice the force as the LIM for the same amount of energy, and you don’t need brakes because the LSM system acts as the brakes. " I got that from an article in funworld magazine in an interview with Intamin. Article link: http://www.funworldmagazine.com/2006/aug/features/coaster_connoisseurs/coasterconn.html But after the brakes slow it too a halt, you still need something to hold it there, unless the LSMs can do that as well, and what happens if the LSMs fail, or the power goes out? -

They are pretty much two elongated Corkscrews, but officialy they are a brand new two inversion element known as a "Twisted Horseshoe Roll". -

The lift pretty much is a launch, it takes upward with a good clip, and uses LSMs to propel you. It just depends on how you look at I guess. -
The loop looks very undersupported, consider either changing it too tri-rail like on the new Eurofighter 320+ model, or adding a beefier support structure. Other then that it looks good, but a bit boring, and very short.

I think that they are just plastic strips, with the lap section probably being made out of whatever Intamin lapbar restraints are. -

It was... But it still seems kinda stupid. Why not just slow the launch down instead? -Andrew "Now I need to decide between CP and BGE for a park trip next year." R -

From what I know, the ball coasters have LSM propulsion around the entire course at a constant speed of some 40 miles per hour. And for the person that said it was in Finland, I though that there was one going to Linnamaki in Finland, and another prototype going somewhere in Spain? Back on topic, Maverick looks great, definatly not what I was expecting. However, from what i've heard about the new Intamin OTSRs, those tight twists and turns should be painfull. I was expecting a bit more on the inversion front though, like maybe a vertical loop or a Immelmann type element. However, who excatly is IntaRide? is that just the name of Intamin's US division, or am I missing something? -

Is this the video everyone is talking about? I doubt it, but it is a cool video; If it isn't, has anyone found the video again?, What should I search for too try and find it? -

asr replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
#10 Thunderbolt (SFNE) #8 (Tie) Mind Eraser (SFNE) #8 (Tie) Mr. Six's Pandemonium #7 Medusa (SFGAdv) #6 Robin: The Chiller #5 Nitro #4 Yankee Cannonball #3 Cyclone (SFNE) #2 Millenium Force #1 Superman Ride Of Steel (SFNE) Just goes to show you how few coasters I've ridden My CF Ridelist; http://tinyurl.com/g392t The rankings there are a bit out of whack, and probably don't match up with my Top 10 list here, so don't call me a hypocrite because I have rides rated differently on Coaster Fanatics then on here -

That was a bit of a disapointment for me, I expected something more then an Impulse and a waterpark. Hopefully it will look better when we can see some real screenshots, not just sylised ones. You need to change the supports on the Impulse though, just look at real impulses; http://www.rcdb.com/ig1920.htm?picture=9 The supports go like halfway up the tower. Of course, the twisting is handled differently in RCT3 then it would be in real, but that dosnt change the fact the towers look like they would fall over in a breeze. -

Another rocket coaster bites the dust, and after less then a year of operation too . R.I.P. Stealth, the fanboys will miss you. Sorry for the bad qaulity, I took it with my camera phone at the park yesterday. -

The Coaster World News media player dosn't work for me, does anyone know anywhere else I can find the video? -
I'm not a fan of the show, but the ride looks great! Very creative, and the hangtime on the first drop must be amazing!

I'm betting they will. The ball coaster I think will get off too a better start then the original 4D concept did. Unlike the 4D, it uses proven technology (LSM propulsion and Free-Spinning cars). All that has too be done is design the layout so it virtually impossible for the spinning too create forces that would be dangerous. That's where it gets tricky. Of course, no one thought Huss or S&S would go under before it happened, did they -
Which offers more of a thrill? Wood or steel?
asr replied to youthink?'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is hard. Steel coasters have height, speed and inverions, Woodies have the feeling of insecurity, and unlike steel coasters, they are truly wild rides, not a smooth and controlled feeling, but rough and crazy. Plus, they give better headchoppers. Its a tie -
The price for the basic photo is 12 dollars for all rides that have photos. The cardboard holders for the photos are crappy though. On S:ROS, sit in the front if you can, the expierence is amazing. On B:TDK, sit in the front for expierence, or the middle if you want to avoif headbanging on the corks. On Mind Eraser, get the front if you can, it's smoother. On Thunderbolt it really dosn't matter, on Cyclone, sit in the last row for insane ejector air. Can't help you on where too sit on the kiddie coasters, and on Mr. Six it doesn't really matter.

The longest for me was some 13-14 hours too on and off too Cedar Point. On and off because my mother has family in ohio, so we usually drive down there every few years too see them, soowe didn't drive directly from our house too CP. The longest trip just for a park or coaster was this year when my family drove down too SFGAdv for my birthday. It was supposedly a 4 & 1/2 hour drive, but it took 7 hours thanks mainly to traffic in NYC . The coasters where worth it though

Looks good so far, but how did they get an Arrow looper if the park is just opening? And if it's an S&S Arrow looper, wouldn't be something more like Tennesee Tornado then the Arrow corkscrew style it is? And I think that Revolutionary Racer would sound better if it was just Revolution Racer.
