Alton Towers Coaster POV Video!
darklight_tr replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awesome video, and I love the music. What is the name of the song? It was stuck in my head all day! EDIT: Found it! It's "Rasputin" performed by Boney M. -
Neutuered Coasters
darklight_tr replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode Montu last year and earlier this month, and I had great rides on it. The trims before the Batwing were never functioning, and the MCBR didn't trim off much speed at all. Montu is my favorite invert! I wanted to mention Raging Bull @ SFGAm. There was never a time where it wasn't neutered, but it would be a much better ride if the third hill trims were never put on. Out of all of the B&M hypers that I have ridden, Raging Bull is easily the worst. I also vote for The Beast and Son of Beast, easily two of the worst wooden coasters that I have ever ridden, all due to rough, boring rides. -
Favorite Restrants.

B&M Speed coasters have awesome restraints. Very comfortable. -

^That explains why maXair gives you a longer ride than Delirium at PKI. After riding maXair at CP, I expected the same from Delirium at PKI. Unfortunately, Delirium has far fewer full swings than maXair. -
^Trust me, you're right about that!

Mine is the now defunct Moonsault Scramble. While I may have never ridden it (especially since I have never been out of the US), it was a beautiful coaster to look at!

Funniest Ride Experiences
darklight_tr replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On one ride on The Voyage, my friend and I were in line for the front row when I noticed a couple in line for the second row were having a disagreement. The husband was trying to coax his wife into riding. He succeeded, and we got in an headed for the lift. I knew I was in trouble when she kept saying OH MY GOD the whole time we were heading to the top. You know the trademark howling screamer that you hear on large coasters when you are watching them from the ground? Well, try being the person DIRECTLY IN FRONT of one of those screamers. She screamed from the first drop until we hit the final brake run, and BOY WAS IT LOUD! I have never heard someone scream that loudly or that much on a single ride. My friend and I were laughing the whole ride, but my hearing was a bit dampened for a while afterward. She apologized after the ride, and I just smiled at her. It was hilarious! -
Hey, I understand. The best advice I can give to you is to take your time. After riding Giant Drop at SFGAm right when it opened in 1997, it scared me so bad that I swore I would never ride another drop ride again. I bypassed them at every park I went to until I worked up the courage to try Power Tower at Valleyfair! in 2003. I was terrified on the way up, but once it was over I realized that I really liked it! I have ridden drop rides at every park I have been to since. They still scare me every time, but I love them now! Don't be in a rush to conquer your fear, it will just make it worse.

No glasses on Tatsu and Xcelerator
darklight_tr replied to shepp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wear contacts, but I like to wear sunglasses to keep the wind out of my eyes and I have straps to keep them pinned to my face. It does make no sense that you can wear them on TTD but not Xcelerator. -

^I think the ride time is short for two reasons. 1. To move the line along. 2. That is all the force the compressed air tanks have, especially since they are used to slow the ride back down as well. I think the likely explanation is #1, but #2 may factor in. -
Best coaster ride when raining
darklight_tr replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not really fond of riding coasters in the rain, but Raging Bull at SFGAm ws pretty interesting in the rain. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
darklight_tr replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Worst: Adventure Express at PKI. Ending with a lift hill just sucks, especially since they give you the impression that the ride isn't over yet! Best: The Voyage at Holiday World. From the mid-course brakes until the end of the ride, it just doesn't let up! -

^I agree about Skyhawk. That ride offers some wicked airtime! -
What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
darklight_tr replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anyone who doesn't say they are scared of at least one ride is full of it. For me, the scariest rides I have ever been on are Skycoasters (I just about passed out just looking at the Kissimmee Skycoaster, but it was an awesome ride!) and Drop Rides, especially Intamin ones. I have never been more nervous and scared before a coaster ride than I was just before I rode Millennium Force for the first time. I hadn't ridden a lot of coasters up to that point, so that just made it worse! -
How many times the same ride in a day ?

My friend and I rode Power Tower at ValleyFair! 44 times when we were there. -

Nice TR. It's great that you got to ride MF, as it was closed when I was there earlier this year because the lift motor had burned out. Did you get to ride Skyhawk? The ride is a bit short, but I thought it was awesome! I have to agree about that shot of MF, it turned out great! -

Steel: Viper at SFGAdv (defunct) or Flashback at SFMM Wood: The Beast or Son of Beast at PKI -
Steel: Viper at SFGAdv (defunct) or Flashback at SFMM When my friend and I got off of Flashback I noticed that his ear was bleeding! Now that is headbanging! Wood: Son of Beast
-
Steel: Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England Wood: Viper at Six Flags Great America Viper is especially painful. I never understood why they had to slam on the brakes at the end of that ride.

Cedar Fair buys PARAMOUNT PARKS!
darklight_tr replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Really? I visited Michigan's Adventure for the first time several weeks ago and I thought that Shivering Timbers was great. In the long run, I think this deal is for the best. After visiting PKI several weeks ago, I don't think things could get much worse. All of the coasters (at least the ones that were open) were unenjoyable bone rattlers, with the exception of Italian Job and even that wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Several of you have said that Son of Beast has been retracked - I couldn't tell. I walked off the ride with bruises, a headache and a grimace on my face. Words cannot describe how uncomfortable those trains are. The only good points about Son of Beast are the first drop and the loop. I agree that Son of Beasts days are numbered now that Cedar Fair has taken over. As for The Beast, despite the massive number of brakes I got off of it with more bruises, a worse headache and a larger grimace. Both rides rank near the bottom of my wood coaster list. Frankly, the best rides at PKI are Delirium and Drop Zone. The only coasters I like are Flight of Fear and Top Gun but neither were open. I also have visited PKD and PGA. PKD was a great park with some awesome rides. PGA wasn't quite as good, but I enjoyed Top Gun. One definite thing about the Cedar Fair takeover is you might as well forget about any new wood coasters. They don't seem to be very fond of them. Oh and DOWN WITH PEPSI! GO COKE! -
Whats your favorite Vekoma?
darklight_tr replied to Neogreeneyez's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really liked both of the Flying Dutchmans I have ridden, X-Flight and Batwing. In fact, I enjoyed them more than Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great America! The only exciting element on Superman was the pretzel loop. After that, it wasn't so fun.
