  1. This park is now know as Wet 'n' Wild Hawaii. Check out their former layout/map. Although, the former Hawaiian Waters Adventure park state two rides will be closed and the Wet 'n' Wild Hawaii Facebook website state a new family raft ride to be opened this Summer--maybe I do a trip report this Summer. There's various discounts available via MWR (military) and Pepsi cans (as of May 2009). IMO, it's a great outing with the kids in a controlled environment vice the beach, but the beach is what draws people to Hawaii and it's much cheaper. On occasion, there's special events at the park such as live music (weekend days or night), car shows (night) and dancing (night).
  2. ^^ I have not consider it Bill since I ate prior to arrival. There selection may differ compared to other amusement parks and they did have an indoor food court that I did not venture in. During visits to the Manama Souq (markets), there were tasty looking snacks. ^^^ According to photos and information from RCDB, the layout is exactly the same as Adhari's Himalaya. In truth, I was actually hoping to find a camel ride vice a roller coaster but alas only saw a camel ride/photo op next to The Dolphin Resort. Although small in size, it appears to be a park that's popular at night considering the long hours--until 1 am--and night photos on flickr. Anyway, I'm glad to be a contributor to this website; I wish I was on the Scandi trip since my brief stopovers in Frankfurt and Amsterdam was such a tease of the European Continent. Aloha,
  3. Thanks all for commenting. ^ Great POV. The first time I rode Himalaya, I sat on the end with 3 other kids and we spun constantly, especially after one of the brake runs. ^^ I agree with the lack of shade. I'm surprise the park was opened in the middle of the day on my visit. According to the park's website, they are opened during the afternoon and evenings during the summer time, all day for weekends (which is on Friday's & Saturday's). ^^^ It seems pretty new according to RCDB.com and my observation. I did not venture to the other Bahrain parks to compare to this park due to lack of time or restricted "liberty" venue (aka Bahrain Mall). BTW, I uploaded more photos at my flickr site: Adhari Park Flickr Set
  4. I had the opportunity to visit Adhari Park (http://www.adharipark.com.bh/english/index.html) in Manama, Bahrain after working constantly for 12+ hours 7 days a week for 3 weeks (plus the occasion belly dancers, filipino live bands, alcohol in the Middle East, and lack of sleep). With a 10 Dinar rental car and a handheld GPS, I ventured off toward Adhari Park getting lost a bit at the many chock full intersections. Since it was a Tuesday (equivalent to a Wednesday in the States), it was not very busy but it was a nice sunny day and not to too hot compared to the combination of sandstorm, rain (mud), wind and monsoon-like weather from previous days. I did not take photos of many patrons (there weren't any) due to my “force protection” training. The kids seem to be very excited, running around, screaming and laughing aloud. Anyway, a very clean park with beautiful landscape and cheap to enjoy a quick hour or two: 500 fils to enter, and pay per ride with the roller coaster at 1 Dinar ($2.70 USD). The park's Tagada was out for maintenance but there were other flat rides operational, including a Disk O and a monorail. Here's a POV of Himalaya: [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=041409f-Adhari_Park__158__fvie[/coastertube] Edit: Updated day I visited and added Tagada photo. Exiting the park for more adventures in Bahrain Another view of Himalaya -- nicely maintained grass/landscape in a desert environment Groovy Town entrance No swimming Adhari Park's transportation vehicle other than the one-stop monorail The empty pool area (park is in transition from the winter months to the summer months) Mini golf entrance Disk O named Skateboarder Happy patrons who was not afraid of the camera The log flume Another flat ride Another view of Himalaya Himalaya's spinning train at a stand still due to an Emergency Stop. Pay per ride, 1 BHD for Himalaya. One of two lift hill in which the spinning cars constantly spin. Spinning Madness, aka Himalaya roller coaster Park map with the park's only roller coaster Himalaya labeled as "Spinning Madness" Adhari Park (aka Ain Adhari National Park on rcdb.com) entrance, 14 April 2009 Japan themed Tagada
  5. I skipped the following coasters and parks due to the time year I visited (i.e., winter via the company's dime): * Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver Colorado on my way to Keystone/Breckenridge Ski Resort. * Cyclone at Coney Island this past February 2009; Coney Island is a ghost town during the winter months. * Kennywood -- I was working in West Miffin but I did watch a NHL Penguins game and ate at Fatheads. * Some of the roller coasters at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas because several of the credits were not available for their "Holiday in the Park" event. I skipped the following coasters due to time, lenghty lines or lack of interest (yes, I'm not much of a credit whore): * Canobie Lake Park because the folks I was with were not interested * Flashback, Great Chase, Mind Eraser, Poison Ivy's Tangled Train at Six Flags New England because of I wanted to ride SROS more than once * Wild Elfin at Happy Valley Beijing * Worm Coaster at Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park * Fruit Worm Coaster at Sun Park in Beijing * 3 credits at Fujiqueue--obviously * Boomerang at Woobang Towerland in Taegu, South Korea -- the boomerang which was out of commision until a last minute weld repair job was performed; instead of waiting, I choose to check out the view from the tower.
  6. Great trip report! I'm hitting this park after Christmas and unfortunately, I will miss several credits (Mr. Freeze & Batman, grrr). Oh well, at least I know I have to pack a jacket for Dallas.
  7. Much mahalo Robb!!! I have the original VHS copy, yet no VHS player. This video feed my obsession of roller coasters during my year round off-season and eventually my participation of TPR's antics.
  8. ^Hence, me sitting on the walkway while the tower swayed . BTW, I highly recommend anyone with a fear of height to conquer this phobia via Skywalk X on Macau Tower.
  9. Walt Disney Parks & Resorts unveils plans for Hawaii resort: Pacific Business News Due to the beaches in Hawaii are public (with some exception to the military) and requires public access, I hope there's a large parking garage for the public. On second thought, I hope the public takes care of the beach! Photo courtesy of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
  10. ^^^ I believe you are looking at the ground and not turning your head. Another suggestion is the "Ride Like a Pro" videos. Mike "250CC rider going on 3 years"
  11. I'll send a postcard from the 50th State, Hawaii.
  12. I'm loving the trip report Peter! Awesome night and macro shots. In regards to Eagle's Fortress: I'm so glad they decided to keep it running. (Pat himself on his shoulder) Check out Pup's POV of Korean Folk Village Kiddie Coaster Mike "I <3 Guam"
  13. I'm not related to Barry but I did lose a few pounds since last year's Japan/Korea TPR trip . Plus, I don't have a video camera filming Robb capture ^'s "happy ending". Anyway, I got to lose a few after all the Chinese food we ate during this trip -- dumplings are yummy!
  14. I have no problem accessing TPR via NMCI. I actually find it funny that I can't access myspace, but friendster & facebook is fine. It must be the region you're in... I dunno.
  15. United States of America, Canada, Guam (USA Territory), Philippines, Japan, and South Korea. China is on the agenda this year.
  16. Great update on Hong Kong & Macau! I'm looking forward to Ocean Park for the scenic landscape myself. At least rain did not defer rides from running. A friend of mine, Chinese gal with family in Hong Kong, highly recommends Ocean Park. For some reason there's a preferred gravitation pull toward Ocean Park compared to Disneyland for the locals. The TPR China folks may have to explore Macau even though there's no credit. The war game at the Fisherman's Wharf looks fun, yet I'm pretty sure we are all drawn to the casinos and extreme activities at Macau Tower.
  17. I'm very much enjoying this thread (and Dave's Thailand thread)! Considering the weak US dollar, I may be exploring these countries sooner rather than later. Also, is the belt a typical restraint for the hamster ride? I rode one at Hanayashiki but I don't recall the type of restraint.
  18. Here's the two traveling roller coasters from Hawaii's 50th State Fair. In previous years, there was a spinning mouse, but apparently sold it or it was a lease. The grey in the sky is vog (Volcano "Smog") from the Big Island. Kiddie Coaster Wild Cat - IIRC, in use for at least 15 years Wild Cat
  19. Great trip report Lou! I also find it funny that we hardly ran into Westerners during this trip, including our time spent at Tokyo Disney & Universal. IIRC, Brian & I finally ran into a bunch on our trek to Hanayashiki Amusement Park in Asakusa. More folks should visit Japan, language barrier or not. Japan is the coolest! Mike "Me hoping there's more drop towers for Brian to conquer "
  20. Hehehe ... include me, a guy in the middle of the Pacific, to rank Eagle Fortress in my top 3. I'm tempted to head over to Everland prior to the TPR China trip, but I'm unsure how to transport myself there without Robb/Elissa's assistance (plus other logistics).
  21. Great TR Lou! Funny how you have great candid shots of me happy, but when you took a photo of my first "squid" (I believe it's Octopus) ball experience, I look rather disgusted. In truth, I was receiving a 1st degree burn. HOT!
  22. Eejanaika loading and unloading is on the same platform. A ride op assigns you a row and either a group "A" or "B". Essentially, while group A departs the train, group B loads the train. What's great is you have a bin for your bags without the chaotic mess of lockers between the entrance/exit of the ride. Between the air gates/grouping and the ride op is a row you exit the ride. I'm wondering if they will forgo the rotating of the seats during loading/unloading and allow people to drag feet on the concrete since there's no drop floor. Nah, this is America.
  23. Congratulations! Diablo Cody No Ka Oi ("is the best" in Hawaiian) ... from a PL.
  24. Here's some of my favorites from the trip. Us Japan folks were lucky; we were "forced" to eat Korean food during the add-on. I did not complain since I'm not a picky eater--SPAM and raw fish is in my diet. Squid or octupus balls (Takoyaki)!! Yummy! My favorite vendor drink, Royal Milk Tea.
  25. Hi Bill, It was great touring with you and Peter at DisneySea and Disneyland. I was simply not prepared. Also, thanks to your sweet chatting with the Tower of Terror fastpass gal, I would have been bum to wait in the standby line after I lost my FP ticket 10 ft from the entrance (BTW, I found it when I got home! weird.). And I really love the photo of us with our ponchos!! Although, I am getting a "ringing" of me and the fangals from my girlfriend ...
