Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
ginzo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I saw this episode and was disappointed that it didn't feature more Holiday World coverage. As I recall, they only featured two rides at Holiday World: the Voyage and Wildebeest. The rest of the show was spent on some silly snow inner tubing "contest". Oh, and there was a brief flash of Craig Knor in Voyage's station. -
Bad working coniditions at Linnanmäki, Finland

In Soviet Russia, theme park job fires you. -
As described above, there is less friction in the wheel bearings the hotter it gets. Also, magnetic trim brakes convert kinetic energy to thermal energy. When it's hot out, this happens to a lesser extent because of the excess of heat in the environment. So, the trims are weaker on coasters like EGF when it's hot.

Food and Fatties of Middle America!

Well, it was always a seedy place with interesting characters as both employees and patrons. But there was a reasonable level of maintenance. It wasn't "run down" on any of the 3 or 4 trips I made there. -
Gardaland (July 2011)

^If you're pressed for time, you might as well just eat the "counter service" food served at Gardaland. It's a heck of a lot better than the slop served at the UK parks. A panino, some gelato, you're good to go. -

It's been a few years since I've been to IB. It looks like the new owners aren't taking the best care of the place. I don't remember things like random trash or signs in disrepair. Is this just my imagination? -
^Ebert wasn't mocking his death. While it may take weeks for a tox screen to come back, the guy closed down a bar on a Sunday night and posted a picture of himself drinking online. It's not an unreasonable assumption that alcohol was a factor in this crash.

^The truth hurts.

^It all Roger Ebert's fault apparently that this idiot drunkenly drove his Porsche at 130 MPH into some trees at 3 AM.
-
^Drunk driving is so dumb. Glad he didn't take anyone with him.

I hope this ride stays. I like it more than just about anything else in the park. -

Looks like an interesting ride. Too bad it won't be open for my upcoming visit to Knoebels. -

The park told us that Jetline was subsequently modified. The lift hill was raised. I don't remember if other changes were made or not. Though I would guess they would have had to because of the increased speed. -
So, the filming of season 4 in Italy is reportedly not going well. Apparently, the Florentines are calling the cast supercafoni, which I believe translates to something like "super assholes". My guess is this newspaper is exaggerating the situation, but it could make for some awesome TV this Fall. Supercafoni

Irregular heartbeat after riding roller coasters

You should really talk this over with your doctor. I don't believe there are many board certified cardiologists here. -

I think there are similarities with the location as well. It's just too far from the old town and not resort-y enough to attract many foreign tourists. Rome has WAY TOO MUCH to do as it is. So, this park is going to live/die by the locals. -
While it's good that you were able to entertain yourself per se, you should consider what it's like on the other side of the fence for a second. This is an extremely high stress situation for the park personnel and vendor. Booing and making a scene does not help matters much for the sleep-deprived people busting their ass to get the ride working. While I don't work on coasters, I have years of experience of fixing complex communications networks under extreme pressure and frequently little sleep. I can guarantee you that the people working to get the ride open were not taking the antics as jokes. My guess is their thought process went something like this, "Fuck these people. I'm just going to leave and get a job at Wal-Mart."
