Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
ginzo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Apart from Storm Runner, it's basically a collection of family-friendly coasters. This new addition looks as if it will bring some more thrills to Hersheypark. -
Busch Gardens/Water Country, VA

While I don't blame you for being angry about your injury, random scrapes and cuts do happen on certain water slides. The old school ones were much more prone to this than their modern counterparts are. I don't think you are out of line in being unhappy with BG's response to your complaint. It would not be unreasonable to take it up with the credit card company. However, getting a lawyer involved for such a small amount of money and a non-life-threatening, non-debilitating injury is not reasonable. A good lawyer bills more per *hour* than those tickets cost you. People that do stuff like that make our country much less fun. -
I would assume "best" would have to be one of the luxury chains like Four Seasons. The topic isn't "best value" or "your favorite", but rather "best". Personally, I wouldn't know because I don't stay in super luxury hotels. Of the chains I've actually stayed in, my favorite is the Swiss hotel chain Mövenpick. It really kicked the crap out of any of the major US chains. The room was super high tech and completely sound proofed. You could see the sound baffles on the ceiling and the door made a "whoosh" sound when it closed. The lobby was incredibly noisy, but you heard nothing but silence in the room.

^Yes. Our group absolutely would not have completed everything in the park without that Q-Bot. In addition to getting in all the major rides, we also got several additional rides on iSpeed. But it was close. We wanted to go back to Katun, but ran out of time. -

I also really, really hope it's not an S&S 4D coaster. Especially not when they could get a FAR BETTER coaster like an Intamin Mega Coaster or an Intamin woodie for the same amount of cash. -
Nice coverage of St. Peter's. I need to climb the dome the next time I go.

What about "suicide by cop"? That happens and is far more of an imposition to the cop than would be put on spectators in a "suicide by coaster" scenario. Suicide is by definition a selfish act. I have no idea what happened in this particular case. Suicide seems plausible, especially considering the family's "hey, what can you do" attitude about the incident.

^If you want to be near Termini Station, Hotel Yes is excellent. But if you're planning on just staying in Rome (aka not doing a lot of regional train day trips), I'd pay more to stay in a nicer area like near the Pantheon, which has much better cafes, gelaterias, etc. Though being near Termini does give you easy subway access certain sights like the Vatican, Colosseum, Forum, etc.

Legoland Florida Discussion Thread
ginzo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, if you forget that Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sundays, you just go to the fast food place next door. If you drive all the way down to Winter Haven and find Legoland closed, there is no plan b. And you just wasted half a day of vacation you could have spent at another one of the many theme parks in the area. Granted with smart phones and Internet being everywhere now, this sort of thing should be less of a problem than it used to be. If I were to guess, being closed on Tue and Wed won't be a deal breaker for Legoland. Planning a trip to WDW is already so complicated that there are travel agents who specialize in nothing but Disney. So, having to keep track of Legoland's hours on top of everything else is not a giant burden. Besides, if there is huge demand to be open on those days, they'll surely adjust the hours accordingly. -
^Ha! My wife works in a court room and she just told me like 20 minutes ago the judge she used to work for used that EXACT example to clarify circumstantial vs. direct evidence in her courtroom.

^I'm not sure why those parents would rather sleep deprive a whole plane full of people than give their precious little child some friggen Benadryl. It just seems like common courtesy.

^In the absence of a forensic smoking gun, what should the prosecutor have hammered on instead of Casey Anthony's questionable character?

I've been to the Colosseo twice now. It's one of the better sights in a city full of amazing sights. I had no idea you could tour the underground passages. I'll be sure to book that next time I'm in Rome.

The medical examiner was correct in saying this was a homicide. The idea that an accidental death was doctored up to look like a homicide is absurd. I guess you could say the system "worked" in that it did was it was designed to do: Set a very high standard for evidence. But, in a larger sense it failed miserably because we have a clear cut case of homicide and nobody is likely to ever be convicted for it. It also failed in that a lying defense attorney who threw out irrelevant red herring after irrelevant red herring now gets to be "brilliant".

I've been on red eye flights where babies cried the entire time and I got little sleep because of it. Not a fun experience.

I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of Roma.

Many people go to TripAdvisor just to vent and spray their HaterAid around. Who gives a crap about the opinions of someone so f'd up they can't have a good time at Dollywood? Though I haven't done any surveys on the matter, I'd wager that the vast majority of Dollywood's guests leave happy and not feeling ripped off. I do read TripAdvisor, but mostly for hotel/B&B reviews because it's very easy to sort out the reasonable complaints from just idiots making noise there. The restaurant and theme park reviews are problematic. For restaurants, the Michelin Guide and local food bloggers are far more reliable. For theme parks, you should come here.
