Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

I think this emphasis on "the rules" is misguided. This is a business decision. Nothing more or less. Many of us who knew the de facto policy of not caring about missing the printed return window will grumble about the change, but few of us will alter our behavior in a way that affects Disney negatively. Heck, some of us might even be more motivated to stay on property in the future when we otherwise would not have. Personally, I'm not a fan of this "we were giving you a break before" approach to business. I prefer a more upfront approach. But Disney is certainly not the only major corporation to play it this way. -
http://www.thehighline.org/ It's pretty close to where you are staying, unique to NYC, very cool, and free.

I wonder if they'll try this policy at Disneyland Paris where the guests can't even match their Fast Passes to the correct ride, much less come back during a prescribed window of time. -

Good thing Universal doesn't give out any line skipping perks to their hotel guests either. -

Yeah, they are her distant cousins after all. -

I'd love to see someone at Disney with 24 kids on those kid backpack leashes. The most I've seen is 7. Yes, one guy with 7 kids on leashes like they were poodles. -

Disney tickets are more expensive than other parks and Fast Pass generally isn't as good as the pay systems. I like not being restricted to such a short Fast Pass return window. These parks are GIANT. It's very nice not having to worry about rushing back to make the return window. -

^Dislike. If the vast majority of guests return within the time window on the ticket, then why does the policy need to be changed? Furthermore, there are legitimate reasons why a guest could not make their scheduled window, like getting stuck in line for another attraction because it is broken down. -
Mitch Hawker 2011 Wood Coaster Poll!
ginzo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eh? Has anyone else here had this experience? When I rode it, it was an ejector air coaster. Almost all the hills on all the cycles I rode it were extremely powerful ejector air. And it was like that from the very first rides of the morning ERT on through the day to the evening ERT. The afternoon rides were especially insane. It's just about the most powerful airtime that I know of. If Balder was a floater air coaster, I wouldn't have it at #1. -

It depends on your definition of "unrelenting". Balder has unrelenting airtime, much more so than El Toro. And you can actually enjoy the airtime since Liseberg doesn't staple you like Great Adventure does. Or at least they weren't stapling when I rode Balder in 2009. -

When is another Intamin woodie gonna get built? 4 built in 11 years is pathetic when you consider that the vastly inferior and more expensive B&M hyper coasters are spraying out everywhere like explosive diarrhea. -
I just watched that 20/20 episode and I don't agree that they were being overly harsh on Carnival. When you consider recent events, they were going fairly soft on them. Carnival has earned their reputation, but I didn't notice anything in that episode that specifically singled Carnival out as being worse than the other lines.

I dunno about you, but I'd consider long waits after paying big money for a Gold QBot to be a serious problem, not a small one. -

It seems unlikely that the lackeys at the fair board would ever give up enough control/stake for this arrangement to make sense. It never hurts to consider your options, but it's also not good to make a bad deal just to be able to expand. -

^Dan and Chad were both very, very careful to not speak in definitive terms about what trains would run on Voyage this year. That's what I noticed most about this video. So, who knows? It would seem very strange to do this much overhauling and then just let the PTCs rip the track up again. -
Yeah, after they got to shore maybe it didn't seem quite so bad. But that point where the ship hit the rocks and not really knowing what the outcome would be = not cool. That and you'd really have no way to know if the ship was going to sink and, if so, how fast was it going down. In hindsight, yes, obviously not of the same magnitude as Titanic.

^Personally, I wouldn't be so quick to suggest that the victims of this accident are pikers. Since you weren't there, you have no idea what it was like. It sounds incredibly scary to me. I imagine a great deal of the passengers felt as if they were about to die and not in that cool roller coaster kind of way.

I noticed this pattern in the Voyage's inaugural season of 2006. I thought it ran pretty well in May and June, but not so great in August. I believe like 1,200 feet of wood was replaced after that very first season. I would love to see some TCO numbers of Voyage vs. El Toro in the very long term, like over 10 years. -
