"Take the Tunnel" T-Shirt!
ArizonaGuy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hummm.....I'd like to order a shirt but not sure if I should get L or XL. I normally do L but I don't want it to peel it off at the end of the day but then again I don't want to be swimming in an XL. You wouldn't by any chance know the brand of shirts that are going to be used, do you Robb? If not that's cool. Thanks in advance for the info! -
Hi everyone. I'm David. I currently live in Phoenix, AZ. I'm originally from Houston, TX so my very first home park was Six Flags AstroWorld. Before coming to Phoenix, I lived in San Antonio for 12 years. Attended UTSA and worked at Fiesta Texas from 1996 to 1999. I think that's pretty much it.

Very nice pics. Thanks for the TR. SFoG is a park that I've always wanted to visit. The park looks really nice and clean. -

Nice pics. Looks like it was somewhat of a cloudy day but glad you had a good time at the park. I went to SFStL last year and it was an ok experience. Evel K. was probably my favorite coaster in the park. The absolute worst in the park had to be Ninja. I swear they were running it with square wheels last season. The only complaint I have with the park is that it had looked pretty run down. Hopefully it got some TLC on the off season in the way of fixing rotting wood on some buildings and PAINT! The other thing that looked REALLY generic was the metal detectors that were set up at the front of the park. Either make a permanent check point or put the metal detectors behind the ticket takers like at SFFT. Anyways......thanks again for the pics. Was the water park open yet? -
Best park in the chain. Wow, just wow. For having a floorless, boomerang, Batman clone, a spinning mouse, and Poltergeist, you consider them the best in the chain? Go to Magic Mountain, Over Texas, Over Georgia, Great Adventure, or Great America, and than we can talk about best in the chain. Who cares if the theming is great in my opinion if it hardly has any good rides? For the Goliath and the Sea World clone thing, you want people to come to your park. For people that like rides, they don't have to go Sea World if that's the only thing they care about. They can now only go to Fiesta Texas. I don't plan on going to Sea World in Orlando (even though different Sea World) anytime soon because I feel I can get animals at a zoo instead, and I rather go to another park. Sea World just doesn't have enough rides in my opinion. If they put a flying coaster at Universal, they would be wonderful for me. Just because the older parks have more coasters doesn't necessarily make them a better park......but I do see your point. There's more to the park then the rides they have. SFFT is doing quite well for not even being 20 yrs old yet. I personally wouldn't go as far as saying "best" park in the chain....but i would say "NICEST" park in the chain. But that's just me.

I'm still not seeing what the big deal is. You're still paying less than what you would be paying at the Park Entrance. Heck...I bought tickets to the No Doubt concert here in Phoenix and paid 94.90 for the ticket. The price of the ticket was $80 and the "ticket fee" was $14.90. I just hate it when people make Six Flags out to be the bad guy. I was at SFFT back on 5/9/09 and there were PLENTLY of people who printed they're tickets in line because they were in front of me waiting to get it. They were also in front of me with meal/drink vouchers. As far as the per bag fee that airlines charge, I totally disagree with charging a slightly higher fee to all tickets rather the per bag fee per person considering I never check baggage. Why should I pay for someone else's bag to ride on that plane?

Well you would have to be pretty dumb to not notice the similarities. OOps sorry! The Gp is dumb. How far are these 2 parks from each other anyway? Ok......much of the GP doesn't realize their similarities. I heard the funniest thing in the Goliath line. It went something like this: GP1: Yeh...they have a ride kinda like this at Sea World GP2: Really, have you ever ridden it? GP1: Yeh but you don't go upside down as much. This one is a lot better and a lot taller. I just laughed and kept my comments to myself. The parks are roughly about 10-12 miles apart from each other. The good thing about Goliath at SFFT is that the park has 2 B&M's in the park and I don't have to visit Sea World to get a B&M inverted coaster fix.

MAGIC MOUNTAIN FOR FIRST TIMERS
ArizonaGuy replied to Gary S's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've driven from Santa Ana to Valencia several times on the 405 and I don't think the 5 could be any better. I'd say just stay on the 405. -
Really? They can operate a water park, but it's a drought that keeps waterfalls dry? Really? Yes sir.....that is correct. Waterfalls both in the park and at the Six Flags Fiesta Texas sign at the park entrance are considered "non-essential". There is also a sign in front of the waterfalls that advise why the falls are turned off. *it was there on my visit 5/9* Really??? Yeh Really.

My gosh....not this topic again!!! Just because Sea World has a "mirror image" B&M coaster doesn't mean that everyone is going to go to Sea World to ride it. We as a bunch of coaster dorks know all about these coasters but the general public does not. Now....back to the point of my post.....great TR. Loved your pics of both SFFT and SFoT. SFFT is a great park. If not for the drought the water falls would have been operational.

Just got my Rollercoasters in the RAW 3 CD. Great job on the DVD's once again Robb. Thanks for the quick shipment too! This is the best internet purchase I've made while being drunk. I must say the AstroWorld coasters bring back many fond memories of growing up in Houston. Thanks for including those. I know you did it just for me. *wink wink* LOL j/j

That's too funny. I don't think there's anything else in the park that Six Flags would even want to take. Looks like the City of New Orleans is being run by several "Johnny Comelately's" -

Wooohooo! Thanks for the update Robb! Can't wait to see the weekend update. -
Same. And now that is lost in our 'dumbed down' sue-happy American society. If you don't stand on the dot, and a train hits you, it is now somehow the parks fault for your stupid action. It's really sad that we have come to this. Yes, apparently ghost007jas would blame the driver because there wasn't an adequate fence around the car. I better retrofit the Jetta with a perimeter fence before I head out for my morning commute.
-
Apparently the fence did it's job fairly well since only one kid got past it. We all take risks in our everyday lives. Nothing is fool/idiot proof. It's very sad that a child has died because of this unfortunate incident but it all boils down to parental responsibility.........period. If a 2 yr old sneaks out of the front door of their house and gets hit by a passing car....who are you going to blame? Are you going to blame the driver who just happened to drive by that house on that day?
