Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
eddie200330 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Those were the days..... I also remember when Midway America first opened and all that was back there were a few carny rides and a snack stand. Look how that built up so fast. It seems like most of these changes happened overnight although it has been quite a few years. I for one also miss the old days of walking down the hill to ride the Comet and SDL first thing in the morning. I agree that a big new coaster is going to look out of place at first, but give it time to grow on you. It is kind of hard for them to expand much in any other direction due to the town and highways around the park. In order for progress to be made I guess we have to sacrifice a few things along the way. There isn't much more they can do to squeeze in rides on top of what is there now, and I'd hate to see them get rid of anything else. -

Are you on crack???? They are 2 "family" type rides that are not gonna go anywhere. They are Hershey Park staples! -

Shane, I tried PMing you the info you needed, but they are stuck in my outbox??? Eddie -
Well as far as the wheels go, don't the "guide" wheels on the inside of the rails keep it from shuffling? In my wicked perception those wheels should hold the trains in a more true position on top of the rails so as to avoid those nasty bolts. Below is a crappy pic from Wikipedia, but it shows what I am talking about by the guide wheels. If they are somewhat snug against the inside or outside of the rail that the train is running on, there should be no reason for said train to "get out of the groove" and on the bolts. Child dies after train ride accident
eddie200330 replied to chadster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We have a lot of hayride/corn maze type things in our neck of the woods. These "train" things are in some of them. I guess you just kinda take for granted when you go that nothing is going to happen because you see the kids having fun. It's not like it is an amusement park where things are designed to run a certain way, this is just a homemade contraption that I am sure are pretty normal for this kind of event. Sad news though and prayers to the families involved........ -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Yeah, but in this case SOB stands for "Ouch you Son of a B@#%H!" LMAO -
It may be small and it may be cute, but it seems like it would be a lot more fun than TTD or KK just for the fact that it does more than go up and come down! I know it's not 100mph or anything but it looks to deliver a pretty decent ride. It would definitely make a nice fit for a small - medium sized park here in the U.S.

When is El Toro not El Toro?
eddie200330 replied to milst1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I could understand if it is a new attraction and you have nothing to go by, but for an established chain, that almost comes off as false advertising. A GP might see the KD commercial and go there looking for a ride that was shown as Vortex from KI. This could create a very disappointing time for said GP. As a kid before the internet came along that is how I planned on which parks to go to. What they advertised on TV or what was in printed material I requested from the parks. If I didn't know any better and seen in the ad where this cool looking ride was shown and got to the park only to find it is hundreds of miles away in a completely different park, I might be a little upset......... -

I always felt it odd that the Kings Dominion commercials mostly featured rides and coasters from Kings Island????? -

I have not been there in the summer yet since the Boardwalk opened, but I get the same feeling seeing it there sitting idle. The area is only a few years old, built to try to recapture the history of old, and now this big conglomerated mess of water is plunked right down in the middle of it!!!! Definitely agree it should've been seperated from the park somehow. -

Maybe Robb is right, those track piece removals were for construction purposes. Could that be where 2011 attraction is going to be worked on? Isn't this one of the CF parks not to announce that yet......... -

This is actually what I see happening. In order to alter the turn there would have to be some modifications to the second hill. This would be why they start here and work there way back to the beginning of the change. I guess in a few days or so you should be able to see just how much track they remove and begin to form a speculative hypothesis from that.. -
This past weekend I got my first ride on HP's Wildcat with the new trains. Holy crap that thing flew, also seemed to be somewhat violent compared to the last time I rode it. I would put this above KD's Grizzly, I never really found it to be "rough" so to speak.....

Oh yeah, that is another thing.....they tell me I was too old to partake of the activities!!! BS ! LMAO I just wanted some candy..... I don't know about treatville in years past, this was our first HPITD event and I just remember from summer's past that you could walk all the way around (behind CRR's waterfalls) and get to the other side. That would be a nice dark spot for some kind of scare zone type thing. BTW, all rides appeared to be running with the exception of the Ferris Wheel, no cars on it...why? -

You used to be able to get past Lightning Racer and Roller Soaker and I believe wind up over near Sidewinder and Storm Runner. Wouldn't it be possible to at least have a path like this to minimize the back tracking? Who cares if the Boardwalk is closed, you could at least wander past it. I know it would be "dead" space, but they could at least put some kind of Halloween theming in there or something. That was quite an unnecessary amount of walking to and from that area.! -

Just got back from the weekend trip and it was great. Friday night was kinda dead and all coasters were pretty much walk on except FEARenheit , which stopped with the first car starting up the lift, never reopened until Saturday. Saturday was a different story though. The place was typical Hershey packed, but the coasters were all short waits with the Comet and FEARenheit being the worst. Everything was running max trains with the exception of FH, Wildcat, and Trailblazer. Even Lightning Racer was running all 4. They definitely to find a way to feed guests all the way around instead of getting back to Midway America only to find you have to backtrack to get out. All in all a great time with the exception of the somewhat frigid temps after the sun went down, I can only imagine a coaster ride in the winter LMAO!!!!! -

If Sooperdooperlooper is going to be removed, we would've heard something about it and if they took it out and added this supposed new coaster, the count would remain at 11 (which doesn't seem like what might happen according to what the marketing is showing as far as RIT goes). The park is also selling a lot of the retro SDL shirts as well. That is good. I actually rank this one as probably my favorite coaster at HP. It is the simplicity of it and the fact that that lap bars are so hard to come by anymore with inversions, and yet it has a seemingly low height requirement that allows most kids to get it as one of their first rides. -

I assume that for the most part they aren't running the coasters to capacity then?? (only 1 train instead of the max) Can anyone confirm this..... -

My wife and I are planning Halloween weekend at Hershey. What should one expect as afar as crowds at the park Saturday. I know they are only calling for highs in the upper 50's and lows in the mid 30's. That has me concerned for after dark rides because of the temperature issue. Has anyone been yet this season for the HPITD and if so how was wait times for the coasters?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! -

Ding Ding Ding...we have a winner. The woodcarver will actually make one of these for you if you want. He is also going to make miniatures of her as well. He does some really good work. I bought a replica of mill race from him last year, and love it. I would love to see a pic of the Mill Race replica!!!!
