  1. We also used to have a pretty good home mortgage system until the Gov't started pushing home ownership down our throats via Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Lord only knows where the Fed bailouts are going to take us. Oh my!
  2. in this forum, cycle bikes. Motorbikes are cool though.
  3. Its going to be a pretty tough race. The only offshore drilling Paris Hilton will be involved in is with her boyfriend on a yacht.
  4. ^ Promise a national monorail network as part of your energy platform and you'll have my vote.
  5. Great report. For me, this was definitely a trip down memory lane. Thillens was always the "big" game of the year for the Park Ridge Boys Baseball league. I would love to see it now that it is fixed up. Nice to see the path from Devon to Touhy fixed up. I used to always ride that up to the Botanical Gardens. Very inspiring reports. I think I am going to have to do a TR of one of my rides through Kentucky Horse country this fall. It is beautiful in the fall.
  6. I love trains. I like the Chicago (Pre Metra) commuter rail. I particulary enjoyed riding the Illinois Central Highliners to the South Shore in Chicago. Where I am now, I live by the Norfolk Southern Cincinatti - Chattanooga line. Lots of container freight and intermodal loads. BORING! I guess intermodal is the future, but I loved the variety of cars on old freight trains.
  7. Brilliant! I can only imagine what the Opening Ceremony was like.
  8. Steiner St at Alamo Square. Great SF shots. I am going in a few months. Can't wait. No parks, but a ton of mountain biking with my daughter.
  9. Actually, HOK (the Cell's designers) was influenced by one of their earlier projects, Royal's now Kaufmann Stadium. The Cell was originally designed for consruction in suburban Addison, Ill, but was moved back to 35th St by the State of Illinois. Another little tidbit. HKO had a design for the new park that was eerily similar to Camden Yards. The Sox owners turned it down. They wanted a shiny modern stadium.
  10. In the "juicebar" of course. I know, thats bad. If you wanted to see a drab ball park, try the Metrodome, or the old Kingdome. When a ball is hit at the Metrodome, it sounds like a wiffleball. The Metrodome will not be missed.
  11. Kinda reminds me of the old Flight Commander at Kings Island.
  12. Given the cheap dollar, I don't think there was much AB could do. InBEV could have gone higher. Hostile takeovers are nasty things. That was done years ago, except the sponsors want to remain nameless. Just found this on MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25679843/ Kind of depressing.
  13. I believe that answer depends on where you are. Here in Kentucky, that question would never cross the majority of most peoples minds. Shoes are optional, as are teeth. Where you are, north of L.A. the rule of thumb is walking to two years. But, if you were to go inland to San Bernardino or Riverside, you could eke it out till age three. Again, its all regional.
  14. Ignorance is bliss? Speaking of Cubs - Sox fued, If both teams were to go to the big show, I would avoid the city like the plague, especially the south side. I agree with you. There are some real thugs floating around down there.
  15. And if you believe that, you're an uniformed White Sox fan. Real baseball fans know that ball was out of play, and Moises was NOT going to get to it anyway. Bartman (who I actually know), did what any other fan would of done. Alex Gonzalez booting a double pay ball was the turning point in that series. The media made it Bartman. I realize it was classic Cub choking that brought about their likely demise. I just loved Bartman because he pissed off so many Cub fans. My aunt (30 year Cub season ticket holder) was fuming that night. I loved it. I'm a uniformed White Sox fan? I always wondered about those Glenbrook Township schools (That is another story).
  16. I am a Chicago native, and I will not be cheering on the Cubs in the unlikely event of them appearing in the series. GO GO SOX!!! P.S. Steve Bartman is a great American.
  17. 1. Old Comiskey Park - The centerfield shower, Nancy Faust (Baseball's greatest organist), A drunken Harry Caray. The original exploding scoreboard. 2. Wrigley - Great park, but to paraphrase Matt, the fan base is iffy. Lots of tourists, but the true Cub fan is a hard core believer. Lets say they can make an Apple fanboy look like a disinterested technology user. 3. Dodger Stadium - Soon to be the 3rd oldest park in the bigs! Lord I'm old! The 70's Dodgers were classic! Garvey, Yeager, Cey. Great guys! 4. Miller Park - That roof is cool. 5. Kaufmann Stadium - Open, airy, clean. When renovations are complete, it will be a gem. Single A - Applebee's Park in Lexington, KY. Thirsty Thursday $1 beer night!
  18. Great shots Cameron. I grew up in Park Ridge (Almost as boring as Highland Park). I used to ride a Forest Preserve trail from Devon Ave up to the Botanical gardens. It's good to see more trails in Chicagoland. The way things are going, I am guessing those are the expressways of the future. So much for my flying car. Mc Jaco - Good call on the North Shore Electroliners. I rode on when I was about a year old. The year before the North Shore line abandoned them. Now it is Skokie Swift to Dempster St. Is Techny Towers still there? I remember recording a record there about 31 years ago when I was in high school. What a cool cathedral. When is LSD closed for the bike ride? I would love to do that ride.
  19. Greezed Lightning - SFKK Just as good as it was 30 yrs ago as Tidal Wave!
  20. Cisco VPN capabilities in 2.0 opens up some possibilities for things I would like to do at my work.
  21. Don't forget the bike paths that starts at Devon and Caldwell and runs up to Botanical Gardens. That is a great ride. I used to do that about one or twice a month before I left Chicago.
  22. Where do I start? For some weird reason, I have met a bunch. Reggie Jackson Steve Garvey - Cool guy Jay Johnstone Elizabeth Taylor George Hamilton Donald O'Conner Don Johnson - Asshole Whitney Houston - Biggest Asshole ever. Sheik Makhtoum of Dubai - Very kind person. George Benson Mike Linkletter Ben Orr of the Cars Jimmy Piersall Wendy O Williams Captain and Tenille - Very nice people Tony Bennett Queen of England drove by my house Wynona Judd
  23. "Well Oprah, I just have to say....F**K YOU!!! F**K YOU!!! F**K YOU!!! F**K YOU!!! F**K YOU!!!" Bless you Wes!!!!!!
  24. Yes it was good. Night rides are still fun even with all the changes.
  25. No it is pretty much "SLYDER" everywhere. SLYDER is spelled with a "Y" not an "I". http://www.whitecastle.com/_pages/secret.asp
