  1. iFixit took one apart and found a Bluetooth chip. Probably for the Nike app. A creative programmer could probably find a way to get a Bluetooth headset to work with it. Skype phone anyone? Also, the bluetooth chip had FM capabilities. I read this on the Wired site this morning. Could get interesting once the AT&T exclusives expire.
  2. Save it for 2012. I was reading an article in the Daily Mail that the CERN accelerator would do it's destruction around 4 years from now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1053091/Meet-Evans-Atom-end-world-Wednesday.html
  3. Some of the old C&NW 4 window Pullman bi-level gallery cars were refurbed and put into service on a new commuter line that runs between Nashville and Lebanon TN. No telling how many times I rode the Northwestern into downtown Chicago from Park Ridge.
  4. The soul-tastic Youtube trips to yesteryear were great, but I am sticking with Beemer.
  5. Moose is right. Here is freeonline's definition: or·gi·as·tic (ôrj-stk) adj. 1. Of, relating to, or characteristic of an orgy. 2. Arousing or causing unrestrained emotion; frenzied. I think it is a great word.
  6. The beach eye candy really brings back the old days. I loved going to Northwestern beach. The weather up there has to be turning nice now. I can't believe how the Mag Mile is such a canyon now. Keep the shots coming. They are great!
  7. I often wonder what happened to the party of JFK and Franklin Roosevelt.
  8. Eh, her performance was decent: The Gettysburg Address it was not. It was a good address. She didn't need to do a Gettysburg. If Lincoln had delivered Gettysburg today, he would have been panned since he was a Republican.
  9. ^ Well I can't give Sarah Palin a pass on fishing without a license. Fish died man, FISH DIED!! Sorry for the double post.
  10. Well I can't give Sarah Palin a pass on fishing without a license. Fish died man, FISH DIED!!
  11. By the time any education package is announced, merit pay, incentives, or any other mechanism that would bring improvements over the status quo will be nowhere to be seen. Mc Cain and Obama are in campaign mode, when reality sets in for the winner we will see a totally different education package. If that's the case, I am not voting for Mc Cain.
  12. Do you honestly think that the NEA will support merit pay and holding teachers accountable. I read all of my wife's goofy NEA newsletters and I don't see anything resembling praise for that concept. He might say he is going to do the merit and accountability route, but I wouldn't hold my breath. That is as likely to happen as Bill Clinton's middle class tax cut was Yes, the government can screw up schools more than they are now. Trust me, I would love to see merit pay and accountability. I have two kids in public schools. Also, my wife, as well as many other teachers would benefit greatly by taking advantage of merit incentives. It will not happen in the public schools though.
  13. Nice stuff. Oaks kinda reminds me of Beech Bend West.
  14. Obviously, you missed the 2002 State of the Union speech when Bush singled out Ted Kennedy for his work on NCLB. Any teacher getting excited about Obama and what he'll do for education better be careful for what they wish for. My wife, a teacher, is dreading what could happen. Anything coming from Obama regarding education will have NEA written all over it. I wonder what DC school Obama would put his kids in. Definitely not a public school. Remember Chelsea Clinton and Sidwell Friends?
  15. That last bathroom shot and caption are way beyond priceless. I hope you all do that trip again in a few years. It looks like a must do. By the way, did the police vest get purchased? By the way, they didn't have one of these on sale at the police supply shop, did they?
  16. Cult leaders look and sound really good, too. I don't know what you mean by "has a much better standing amongst things," though. Still, the former is the position most Obama followers seem to have - that he just sounds so darn good - but it's very much like judging a book by it's cover. And in Obama's case, the cover is beautifully ornate - shiny, new, with all sorts of rainbows, pots of gold, and puppies bordering the edges. It LOOKS so impressive - but open it up and it's a single page. On the front it says "hope," and on the back it says "change," and that's as far as the book gets in having anything of substance. (I have "hope" too, you know. Most people in this country have "hope," regardless of political party. But bad guys (criminals, terrorists, etc.) have hope too - hope in fooling the good guys, cutting corners, killing their enemies, whatever. Don't get me wrong, I'm not lumping Obama in with the bad guys, I'm just saying that when one uses such a vague and relative term like "hope," it REALLY helps to expand on it a bit.) Now, McCain's book isn't nearly as pretty, as I'm sure most people would agree upon. It's old, dusty, and worn, but at least when you open it up, there's more than a single page to read. A lot more, actually. You may not agree with what's written in it, but at least you have something from which to form a valid opinion. And aside from what the candidates merely appear to be, while I still don't agree with McCain on a good number of things, I agree with him FAR more than Obama. And in the end, it's the political positions that win me over. Not the appearance of the candidate or how warm and fuzzy the guy makes me feel. As for the negative ads, heaven forbid a precious candidate gets his/her itty bitty feelings hurt. And has anyone actually done their research on the things Obama claims? Go to factcheck.org (a site that analyzes ALL the candidates, not just dems or reps) and you'll see that Obama "lies" just as much as McCain. He's just another sleazy politician, not the blameless savior of the the free world. Okay, I really need to try to stay away from this thread. I hate talking politics - I can feel my blood pressure raise with every word I type. Also, don't forget his ties to William Ayers. Ayers is an unapologetic Weatherman terrorist. Obama's "community action" activities on the south side of Chicago started with this sack of dirt .
  17. She hasn't had time to write a book. If she were a US Senator, I am sure she would have time.
  18. 9 / 10s of them will say administrators. Administrators get in the way big time. ^^ printersdevil78 - I don't dare bring up NCLB (No child left behind) with my wife. She is a teacher. NCLB is the bane of her's and every other teacher in the USA. The time wasted documenting crap is unreal. Roll that in with the unbelievable amount of money pissed away and it is no wonder things are as hosed as they are.
  19. Man, theres that personal responsibility thing raising it's ugly head again. I figure that the mortgage bankers figured in the signer not reading the contract as one of the factors making the loan riskier.
  20. Care to elaborate? This is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard. A lot of the problems in the housing market, hence the overall economy, can be traced to the securitization of very risky home loans that should not have been made. This "risk management" via securitization was made possible by the repeal of the Glass - Steagal act in the late 90s. Glass - Steagal made it illegal for commercial banks to be involved in the securities industry. If Glass - Steagal were still in force, banks and security brokers would not have had the ability to securitize risky loans that should not have been made in the first place. I will grant that Congress pushed for repeal, but the ultimate responsibility, the actual signing and repeal, rested with the President. That being said, I would like to say I don't like Obama or McCain. I don't know who I am going to vote for.
  21. Now we're getting to the meaty issues. With that, I will shelve my questions regarding bringing back Glass-Steagal and repealing Sarbannes-Oxley.
  22. Is it just me, or does it look like the cat on a pack of Black Cats?
  23. I'm a bit tired of the beach volleyball, but seeing Phelps do his thing is cool. Phelps' pursuit of 8 golds doesn't seem to have the buzz that Spitz's 7 had 36 years ago. Then again Costas and crew don't hold a candle to the great Jim McKay. One thing I really like is how Kobe , LeBron and company are keeping things focused in the basketball tourney. I admire their attitude and focus.
  24. All those people changed their minds when they found out the US government wouldn't pay for their tickets to Canada. A friend of mine said he was going to leave on 04'. I offered to pay for his ticket. He balked. He was all talk, like Obama is. Gisco - I think we can safely assume Cher is off the radar. I am kinda glad Babs stuck around. Her website is good for a few laughs every now and then.
  25. In addition to the monorails, could we get a good network of bike paths in the cities? Doing that, you will get the tree hugger vote!
