So, I'm enjoying this thread...but I have to ask a serious question: Where is Dubai? Also, wouldn't it be cool if the Bush Gardens had both Sheekra and Griffith? And one could be built on top of the other one, so that instead of one having a 200 foot drop, it could have a 600 foot drop. Would that be awesome!!!

Went down to Orlando to visit mom (among other things), and decided to hit the biggest park in the area that I'd never been to before, Cypress Gardens. It was nice. A few ghetto spots, and hardly a major thrill park--but flowers are nice, and I liked it much better than Wild Adventures. And now I end with a self-review of this TR. Sorry for the lack of ride photos. The flowers were just more interesting to me, in this park. :OP The Starliner gives the park a real "adult" coaster. It was rougher than I remember it being at Miracle Strip, but that might just be my imagination. I still haven't been on one of these. Mom wasn't interested, but it didn't look very wet. I'd thought they were supposed to be. Maybe it's adjustable...? I just like this shot. That's Triple Hurricane in the background, which was good fun also (in a minor way). I did ride Swamp Thing. It's the first Junior Inverted I've been on. A bit headbangy, but otherwise fairly good, I thought. I have some issues with this picture, but it does give you a good idea of the rides section of the park. For some reason, this looks like the monks are about to have a shoot out. The banyan tree was pretty cool. Mom was all about it. The boat wasn't running due to low water levels. Note the famous water ski show, with the Island In The Sky in the background. I like this picture. Yeah, yeah...I'll get to the rides in a minute. (I wonder if any of the 13 year old enthusiasts are even still reading?) A "southern belle" strolls down the midway, while old people 'tsk, tsk' her slutty outfit. A pleasant little water feature. (This TR is nearly irony free, so far. I don't know what's wrong with me.) Honestly, I was in no big hurry to get to the rides. I think I would have enjoyed the "old" Cypress Gardens just fine. Here, we see a duck attacking a ladybug, while a peacock looks on in judgment. The middle of the "old section" is filled with topiary. This does not appear to be a complete sentence. A charming midway near the front of the park. The park also has several minor attractions, such as a museum of different versions of Santa Claus, a model train exhibit, and this thing. The park has several coasters, but most of them are quite minor. The Island In The Sky (or, "Sunshine Adventure") was probably my favorite thing in the park. Great views. One of which is a "bird aviary." (As opposed to a "fish aviary," I suppose.) The front of the park has several small zoo-like attractions, as well as some nice scenery. I enjoy interesting signs almost as much as I enjoy roller coasters. :OP The front entrance. Fairly impressive, if a bit bland. I can't decide if this homemade tram is super-ghetto, or actually quite clever. Maybe both.

Yeah, this is pretty much what happened to the thread last time, too. It's more difficult than one would think to find a balance between a picture everyone here can identify instantly, and one no one will ever get. So here's a second pic from the same park: -

I reminded myself of this thread. Anyone else miss it? Short rule recap: Post a guess, wait for me to confirm it, and then it'll be your turn. Name that park! -
^ See? I said you might not have seen it before. It's actually outside the park, along the old entrance road, on a maintenance gate to the back of Rockin' Roadway. Though it is very much in a public area, it would be very tough to spot from a moving vehicle. Luckily, I was on foot. Come to think of it, that would have been a good picture for the old "name this park" thread. Very light. Thunderhead was only running one train, and they were barely filling it. Lots of re-riders.

I just bought a new camera, which was all the excuse I needed to head up to Dollywood and try it out. It's a Pentax Optio E40, and it was literally the smallest digital camera I could find that took AA batteries. It's working out pretty well, so far. Certainly, it can do a lot more--and produces better pictures--than my old camera. Observe.... Here's something you might not have seen before. That guy's pants are advising him not to kill people. I really like this shot. Never could have got it with my old camera. This camera does much better than my old one with moving objects, too. This guy's horse is making syrup or something. The word "free" really jumps out at me here, for some reason. :o/ A self portrait. I had time to kill waiting for the train to come by. That shot didn't turn out very well, though. This ride was not very popular today, due to the cold. But my new camera captured the splash pretty well, I think. I'm kind of cheating on the size here. (Please don't eat me, Wes.) The new camera also has "stitch assist," which help in creating panoramic shots. "What? I can't hear you! Um, no, I'm at the office." This picture was taken from Mystery Mine's queue. Again, the new camera's zoom feature comes in handy. Mystery Mine riders get an interesting view of the fall colors. My old camera was not so good with the zooming. This one is much better. Hooray, it works! (Note the cold weather mode of the water jets.) As good a place to start as any.

I actually have 2 Arrow creations in my Top 10! (Although, as previously mentioned, I have a pretty off the wall Top 10.) They are.... Top Gun (Kings Island) "Mad Mouse" (model, various parks) Electerik Wizard of Wackiness -

I have a friend who's going to Europe in November, and he asked me what, if any, parks would be open that time of year. I searched the internet a bit, as well as TPR, but couldn't find much. So, other than Disneyland Paris & maybe (most of) Toverland, would anything else be open in November? Thanks, Electerik Supreme Park Expert (to his non-park friends, anyway)

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Electerik replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh, I see. So that's why CoasterFanatic said he didn't want to see a carousel way in the back of the park. But the carpenter shop and where it's going isn't what we're talking about now. Now we're talking about the Holiblog entry from Wednesday, September 12, 2007: Electerik Cleric of Clarification -

A ride she's always wanted? Maybe a (proper) christmas-themed carousel? (You're not the only one who's talked to the owner. Just another reason that Holiday World is awesome.) Electerik Laughing Stock of the A-List -

Well, knowing Paula's perchant for punny clues, I would take "Before we let it slip" and "This time of year, we always worry about leaks," as a pretty clear indication of an Aquatrax. Or a new water fountain. I'm not really sure. In any case, it's nice to see Holida World continue to do well and be able to add things. Electerik Water Wizard -
2007 Golden Tickets Announced
Electerik replied to CoasterFanatic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think this particular accolade implies that at all. It's not a "most improved" award, it's "best." Subjectivity aside, if a bad park suddenly became the second best park anywhere in the span of one year, it still wouldn't be the "best" park, know would it? It's actually very simple: A bunch of people who thought Cedar Point was the best park 10 years ago still think that. I happen to think they're a bunch of nutjobs, but there you go. I think this question has come up before. But, yes, I like it very much. It's in my top ten. Of course, I have a pretty weird top ten (let's just say there's a wild mouse in it). The Big Ass Bunny Hill is one of my favorite elements anywhere, and I actually really like the whole "swooping around" second half (complete with WTF-random head-choppers). Electerik Wizard of Weird

2007 Golden Tickets Announced
Electerik replied to CoasterFanatic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not so sure that's an apt comparison. The Oscars are (supposedly) rewarding the best films and performances of that particular year. Whereas the Golden Tickets are (mostly) about the current best--which could very reasonably be the same parks and rides year after year. I'm not so sure that a "well, they won last year, so let's give it to someone else" mentality gets you any better results. Here's a fun thought, though: Considering how much we tend to second guess the decision-makers in regards to the way they run their businesses, is it any surprise that we object to their judgement come awards time?
