Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

^ I really need to get out and ride this thing. I have a feeling Millennium Force may still be my favorite first drop because the view is stunning and I305 doesn't really have that but then again... never know until you ride it. -

Good news! Let's hope it stays that way. -
Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
coasterbill replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm so happy to see El Toro in the #1 spot (though tied). I've never ridden Voyage or T Express but Boulder Dash and Phoenix are both amazing rides and I'm happy to see them up there as well. Where were the fanboys this year? Raven at #21??? lol Also... nice to see Son of Beast near the bottom, one of the worst coasters I've ever ridden. Still has nothing on SFNE's Mind Eraser or SFGADV's old Viper (which was replaced with the #1 wood coaster apparently) but for wood coasters nothing could ever suck like that ride sucked. -
I can't believe that they see more demand for a Vekoma Invertigo than Laser which was a pretty awesome little ride but whatever. Nothing we can do about that now. As far as the Dragon Coaster, I rode it... I don't get why they ever had it in the first place but I'm glad they're moving it to another park even though it's not marketable and nobody will care. I guess since they probably already have a truck made for moving that exact ride somewhere it won't cost them more than a few thousand dollars and a few days to move it anyway.

I love this park. I hope once you get it up to the present day you continue to make updates every once in awhile (and off season updates). It wouldn't be a ton of work for you and it would give us all something to do in the offseason. I'd hate to see the park get the Geauga Lake treatment or something once it got up to 2010-2011. Can't wait for the next update... but I guess I'll have to lol.

Importance of Theming
coasterbill replied to Hayzle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like Dragsters theme better, but when you're going 120+ MPH it doesn't really matter. In most cases, theming plays a big role but since those rides are so fast and so short (duration wise) I don't think it matters. I've ridden both coasters and I'm not sure which I prefer. You don't notice the height difference, I don't love KK's restraints but it's not that big of a deal. I guess I like Dragster a little better since there's a better view from the top but again... not that big of a deal since you only have about 2 seconds to appreciate it. I can think of a lot of times when theming made a good ride great though, Big Bad Wolf comes to mind immediately. That coaster is still on my top 10 list. I'm not just saying that because they got rid of it, it was my favorite ride at Bush Gardens (I went before Griffon or Dark Castle). Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Volcano the Blast Coaster and Adventure Express also come to mind. Good theming always makes a ride better, but I think the bigger and faster the ride is, the less you notice it because you have less time to appreciate it as you're going through the ride. -
Easton Gardens: [RCT2]

Are those the flowers that came with RCT2 or custom scenery? If they're not custom... you'll need to keep using a trainer so they don't die as most aren't near a path and that would get pretty annoying. -

Nice! -
I rode this about 10 years ago and it did nothing for me, now that it's going 104 MPH and facing straight down it sounds like they turned a "meh" ride into an awesome ride. Who cares about the arm guards? This ride kind of seemed forgotten by everyone and now it's become a world class thrill ride again. I'm really jealous of everyone that got to ride it. It's doubtful that I'll ever get back to California.

I have to say... I like your style. It's realistic and it's fun. One minor suggestion though is to cut down on the amount of signs, you have 4 that say "souvenirs" on that one building... with a big map like that you'll run into that annoying "too many banners" problem later on. Maybe replace it with a 2 square wide standard or scrolling marquee sign on each side to save the headache... plus it looks a little more realistic. Anyway... as minor as a suggestion as that is, back to talking about how much I love it. I actually really like the woodie's layout. I'm a big fan of the intamin as well. You also do a great job of landscaping around rides. The miniature golf course under the B&M looks really good. That may be my favorite part of the park. -

I don't know the whole story but... they ORDERED DVD'S? They hate you, and TPR and think it sucks but they dropped about 10 bucks on a TPR DVD? I know this whole thing happened after they bought DVD's but you can't buy TPR merchandise and then complain that you hate TPR. I hope you autographed it for them. -

Sorry to hear you're having these kinds of problems. I know you're probably like "Coasterbill who the hell are you" but I've been coming to this site for at least 7-8 years now and I'm amazed at how cool of a guy you seem to be. I've never met you personally but from my distant perspective... I've never seen anyone go so far out of their way to accommodate so many people. You do coaster trips for random people that sign up for your free forums, always offer to meet up with people at Magic Mountain and will go on any podcast that wants you on despite having an incredibly busy schedule. It sucks that some people took advantage of your trusting and good natured personality but hopefully you realize it's just a few idiots and quite honestly... screw them. Keep doing what you're doing, it's a breath of fresh air to see people conduct themselves the way you and Elissa do. -

UGH... call me when that's open. They're FINALLY making progress on it. It took long enough though. By the way, if Robb's post was directed at me I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. I was just asking what the upper floors were used for and if there was a second deck. If I were in Dubai I would gladly cough up the 40 bucks to go up there. -

I'm not sure how high the Freedom tower's spire will be, but the total height is 1776 feet. I wonder if it's observation deck will be higher than that of the Burj Khalifa. -

I've seen a lot of pictures of the Burj Khalifa but I would love to see it in person one day, that must have been an amazing experience. I have a question though, not that 1,483 ft isn't extremely impressive, but is there any way to get to the top of the building (obviously without having an office there). I know with the Empire State Building, you can pay a ridiculous fee to go up to the 102nd floor observatory from the 86th. Is it the same way with the Burj?
