  1. Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not really an expert on either park but according to the Park Index don't they both have 1 drop ride? I'm not sure what you mean. And isn't Orbite only run in Space Shot mode so is that even really a drop tower? And I didn't skip over the posts about Liseberg, but comparing North American parks to international parks is like comparing apples with oranges. Cedar Point just made a nice investment (meaning the new light package and to a lesser extent re-routing the queue) in a huge drop tower and it doesn't seem to have overly high ridership compared to their other rides. It's not like the public is clamoring for another drop ride at Cedar Point (as evidenced by the fact that Demon Drop was moved to another park). I think most people would be confused by it and it wouldn't have a very high ROI. The park knows more about the projected ROI than I do, but that's just my opinion from an enthusiasts perspective. Yes, this is all based off of someone's pipe dream, but since all we'd be able to do in regards to the new (rumored) coaster is speculate, I guess why not speculate about drop rides too...
  2. I have a lot of faith in the Rangers, but it looks like we might have another game 7 on the way. This team is unbeatable with their backs against the wall but they're now 0-7 when they have a series lead. They just love to make it interesting I guess...
  3. If you already have a drop ride, why would you invest the money in a new one when the one you have is in perfect working condition and you just installed a brand new lighting package on it? These parks are out to make a profit, not waste money needlessly. If anyone thinks they're going to install a brand new drop tower then they're insane.
  4. In order to make this coaster in the Intamin Plug and Play style, it actually started out as a B&M dive coaster. I built the station and lift hill, set the lift speed to 15MPH and then changed the track type to wooden because otherwise the lift hill couldn't be that steep (I wanted to make it like El Toro's cable lift). As I mentioned above, hyper wood coasters usually end up with that pesky "Ultra-Extreme" intensity rating but if you use a gradual pullout at the bottom of the drop it makes it ride-able. The problem is that having a steep drop followed by 4 or 5 consecutive 45 degree pieces before flattening out looks stupid so I buried it underground. Even when you do this, the ride can still get really intense so it's best to keep the duration to about a minute and keep the drop to exactly 200 feet because it's really pushing it to go any higher. Now the ride has a very high excitement and intensity rating so I'm happy with it. As far as every ride being a coaster, part of that may be that I focus on the coasters in my updates. As of now (and not counting this new area because it's not open yet) I have 27 non coaster rides (if you count the Swiss Sky Ride as 1 ride even though it's technically 4) and 14 coasters. While this is a thrill park, it will have a lot of family rides as well. Thanks for commenting!
  5. I love Hershey, it's great that they're giving SDL the attention it deserves.
  6. Park officials have been tight lipped on the name of the new area but it's clear that Sunset Valley is becoming one of the best thrill parks in the chain and in the world. Work is continuing on Sea Serpant. A lot more custom supports need to be put in. The ride has also been testing a lot and dispatch times are being perfected. Merry Mixer has also begun testing. This is the first flat ride in the new area but it sounds like there will be a few others on the way. The big news, however is that the wood coaster is going to be a major thrill ride. It's an Intamin coaster and the only operating wood hypercoaster in the world. it drops riders 200 feet into a tunnel and looks like it will feature ejector air time. The coaster will be named "Cannonball Run". As always, comments greatly appreciated! I really appreciate all of the feedback so far! That first drop sure looks intimidating. The ride is only going to be about a minute and 15 seconds long. I've noticed that the only way to make a wood hypercoaster rideable in RCT2 is to make it short, and make the pullout of the first drop very drawn out (so a transition from the steep drop into 4 or 5 45 degree drop pieces). This looks ridiculous which is why the first drop is into a tunnel but this will only add to the thrill. While the duration is short, this ride has killer airtime and should be a very exciting coaster. Merry Mixer can be seen in the lower left hand corner of the picture. The turnaround section of the coaster makes a great backdrop for the forbidden jungle section of the park, and gives guests waiting for Shangaan something else to look at while they pass the time. The park was PACKED all day today. Guests sure love Vampire!
  7. According to some posts on Pointbuzz (so take this with a grain of salt, it's now 3rd hand information) the park looked to be in the process of re-assembling Wave Swinger on Sunday.
  8. If that's true, I think it's a cool addition. By the way, does anyone else think it's kind of interesting how every gimmicky, trendy ride CP has seems to end up on the "Oceana Midway"? They have an impulse coaster (big in the late 90's, early 2000's then dropped off of the map), a bobsled coaster (big in the 80's then dropped off the map), a windseeker (these rides and the starflyer rides are all the rage right now), they had a Chaos which was the ultimate gimmick / fad ride (and yes I know it was relocated) and now there is a wing coaster rumor. By the way, I know the words "gimmicky" and "fad" can be considered negative but I don't really mean it that way, I'm just making an observation.
  9. Does anyone know why the Great Escape coaster is rumored to be scrapped? I'm no expert but I'd assume that these coasters either have high maintenance costs and / or are hard to find replacement parts for, otherwise I don't see why they'd get rid of it. If that's the case, then I'd think Cedar Fair would have a similar situation with Disaster Transport.
  10. I've always wanted Disaster Transport out, not because it's a bad ride, but because the building is hideous and kills the look of that whole area.
  11. Um... YES!!!!!! Are you new to the coaster enthusiast community or something?
  12. I don't know why but this made me (literally) laugh out loud. Great TR, can't wait for the video!
  13. If anyone is interested, I managed to find that clip. Link
  14. Just wanted to let you know I didn't die. Work is slowly progressing on the inverted coaster and the surrounding area. The flat ride pictured in the last shot has been at least temporarily removed and a new wood coaster is being erected. I'll have more details on that soon. The new coaster has been named Sea Serpant.
  15. Yeah I know... Magnum XL 200 Steel Force Steel Dragon 2000 Millennium Force SPOILER ALERT = Nobody complains about any of these, and please don't pretend Leviathan is a well themed coaster, the area around the station is themed and that's it. This tunnel looks fine.
  16. I went to Great Adventure the day after Superman opened and believe it or not I rode it 4 or 5 times without waiting. I marathoned on that and Chiller all day. It's not unheard of for Great Adventure to have a lot of walk ons early in the season when weather is crappy but I have to admit I'm surprised that this happened on Sunday because it was beautiful out. I guess not too many mothers wanted to spend their mothers day at a theme park.
  17. Have fun at CP tomorrow! I'm officially jealous.
  18. Normally I hate it when men "match" but they're in the playoffs right now and he's their only player. It's excusable.
  19. An eyesore? I feel many would agree with me that it's one of the most magnificent looking structures at any park, anywhere, operating or not. Maybe it was a bad choice of words on my part... It's magnificent looking at the moment but when it's not operating, it becomes a huge black eye for the park because everyone knows it's an abandoned coaster that nobody feels like tearing down. Plus, a few more years of neglect and it will start to look as rough as it used to ride.
  20. At this point I don't even care if they replace it, just get rid of it. It's an eyesore.
