Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It should also be noted that if it's a busy day the Maverick passes will be gone when you get back if you do that so it could work but it's risky if it's really busy. We saw that happen on Memorial Day weekend. Also... Maverick is FUBARed and might not be open anyway. -

People are waiting 2 hours with access passes but not Fastlane. Nobody has Fastlane at CP this year so the few that do are flying onto the rides unless the ride goes down. -

I had a good time but it was a shitshow and I’m definitely only going once next year for one day If they’re still doing this and then driving down to Kings Island where everything is less of a sh*tshow. I’d love to be able to tell you that I wouldn’t go at all, but Millennium Force exists. -
I never expected that Six Flags would even attempt to open this year but the fact that they haven't joined the other parks in announcing that they were closed for the season is probably confirmation that they're holding out hope even though their hands are tied and it's not looking good. It seems dumb on the surface, but I get it because even one month of operation during Holiday in the Park opening would mean that they could start billing their entire passholder base that paused over 4 months earlier than they would be able to otherwise since the alternative is not getting a penny from those people until early-to-mid April. One month of operation would lead to 4 months of revenue.

I’ll wait and see what they actually do but if they end up having to re-track the entire coaster after four years of existence and like... 2.5 cumulative years of wear and tear since it’s always closed that’s pretty much unprecedented, isn’t it? We all love RMC but that would be stunningly bad engineering from a modern coaster manufacturer. Then again, Steel Vengeance spent 2 years opening late and having tons of issues while people worked on the structure in a lift multiple times a week so I guess structural problems are on brand. I love RMC but if I were a park looking at one of their rides as an investment that would be mildly concerning. Personally I’d be really surprised if the ride were actually THAT f*cked up and if it is... woah. -

Maybe it’s going to run two cycles with riders next year before it closes for a month again... -

Yeah, normally I'd rather go to a covid unit and lick doorknobs than watch any Cedar Fair show but I loved those Skeleton Crew shows. -

I've legitimately considered this just for the experience of doing it since parks will hire anyone with a pulse in the fall and I fit the bill but the park would have to be somewhere near us so you could reasonably commute there each day and there really isn't one that's open in the fall except parks that are total sh*t. Also it's an actual business that needs employees who are willing to be team players and do whatever is needed, not just live out some stupid thing they've wanted to try out for years because they're dorks and they could easily tell me to go stamp hands for re-entry for 16 hours. -

Cedar Point has apparently found some staff or figured out how to be more efficient from Six Flags or something: The only rides that are scheduled to be closed this weekend are either legitimately closed for covid, broken, upcharges, water rides or the unnecessary extra car ride. -
I feel like they're not super strict with the reservations but I'm not 100% sure. Also, it takes time to park, get through security and the temperature scan and all of that (especially right at opening) so they know nobody is going to time it perfectly. All B&Ms are loading all rows I think but I don't believe any other coasters are. The only one I'm not sure about is Green Lantern because f*ck that ride but I think they are. This means no guaranteed choice of seat at any ride but they often honor requests if they didn't already put someone in line for that row (so you can probably ask for the back on most coasters and get away with it but getting the front is highly unlikely). They're a little smarter than Cedar Fair when it comes to the other coasters so on the other coasters they pretty much load each party together now and then put an empty seat between them but if you're a group of 6 they're not going to kill capacity by having that group of 6 have empty rows between them. Wonder Woman's loading process is maddening but still slightly better than it used to be. I'm not sure about Flash Pass. We have the DE passes so we just use our 3 line skips each day and we're happy with that. I can tell you that if Wonder Woman is a priority you should ride it early even with Flash Pass. Kingda Ka gets long fastpass lines too. The beer situation is that it's expensive . Still no beer jail but I wear the mask if I'm not actively drinking because I don't want too many people exploiting a loophole and causing them to bring back beer jail. During Hallowfest they cut beer sales off 2 hours before park close since the crowd is a bit on the drunker side. Normally it's one hour. This is from Saturday exactly 10 seconds before 8:00.

Yeah, I know that it would require a lot of work to the track and either modified or maybe even new trains (I have no clue how that stuff works) but I'd be thrilled with that at this point. I know for awhile everyone swore up and down that the launch wasn't the problem but no other RMCs have these types of problems so it's hard to imagine the problem is with anything other than the launch, the trains that it needs because of the launch or some combination of the two. -

Is this person secretly Dolly Parton? Canobie and I just did the same thing but it took forever so I'm posting this anyway Just search this thread for "Lightning Rod Closed" and re-live the incredible memories. 2016: Hilarious dumpster fire... late opening, constant closures, closed the last few weeks of the season aside from that one time it opened, sent one train full of enthusiasts that camped outside the ride being miserable for 5 days and it rolled back immediately and closed for the day providing us with endless entertainment. Almost burned to the ground in November... sadly for the park and their maintenance department, it did not. 2017: F*cked up for a bunch of May and June... and actually also July. Late July... "OMG there's a train on the track, maybe this means something (it did not)". It looks like it opened a few days later. 2018: Closed for three months... basically the entire summer. 2019: Unreliable compared to most coasters but it had a marginally better year than Top Thrill Dragster I guess for the first time ever. Setting the bar low... 2020: Peel out now! -

Yeah, but the difference is that this isn't even slightly unusual with Lightning Rod. Despite being an Intamin rocket coaster, Storm Runner is reasonably reliable and Steel Curtain is only a little over a year old and also located in a Parques Reunidos park where I fully expect everything to be f*cked up 24/7 365 because they're an absolutely horrible embarrassment of a company. -
Also, I just realized that I posted this in the TPR Facebook group but not here.... So I’m not normally a fan of Six Flags Fright Fest (understatement of the century) so I can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually really liked the “new” Hallowfest at Great Adventure. Obviously it’s no Holiday in the Park but capacity was limited enough that it wasn’t the brutal hell of a typical Fright Fest day but it was busy enough to have a fun vibe. If other parks were doing haunts I’d probably be more critical but going through the mazes in such small groups makes it hard to screw them up, and while they’re not amazing and not worth waiting too long for they’re fun if the lines aren’t that awful, and last night they were mostly manageable. They’re fun and I’m happy that there’s a theme park haunt somewhere in the northeast. I think they’ve got the capacity at just the right spot right now (assuming it was full or mostly full yesterday). We’ll actually be back to do the trails that we missed since they’re included with the pass. Thumbs up from me, which isn’t something I normally say about Great Adventure during Halloween. Disclaimer: When I refer to comfortable crowd levels, I mean in terms of wait times and not covid concerns for which they have none. Also: Be smart and ride the rides running at reduced capacity early and save the B&Ms and high capacity rides loading all rows (like Nitro) for when it gets busier. If you want to ride Kingda Ka or Wonder Woman for example, get there at open and go straight there. When Kingda Ka breaks while you’re in line because it will... wait it out. Some common sense is required.
