  1. Considering you're in DC, it may be more worthwhile for you to get a Platinum Pass for Kings Dominion. The early entry for platinum passholders is the same as for resort guests. I stayed at the Howard Johnson just down the street from Breakers Express. It was super cheap (around $50 a night--though I will add the caveat that I booked months in advance, and before Coastermania was announced). Considering that Breakers Express is in the $130 range, you'll easily save money with the Platinum, plus get some perks at Kings Dominion too, and still have the free parking and early entry at Cedar Point. If you can do two days, do two days. I was there for Coastermania, which was an 18 hour day with 4 hours of ERT, and I was still running around to get to everything, and didn't quite get to all the second-tier rides I wanted (though I did get multiple rides on the top-tier ones). There's just way too much to do, no matter how long you spend there. I skipped Soak City, as it didn't look like much, and there are so many good rides at Cedar Point. That seems to be the prevailing thought unless you spend a week there. I'll let others recommend days to visit and FL+, as I don't have experience there. Have fun! I agree with this entirely. Get a Kings Dominion Platinum Pass and process it at KD before you go. Then you don't need to stay on property to get Early Entry and you can stay at a Motel 6 or something (Motel 6 and Super 8 Sandusky / Milan right by the Ohio Turnpike are good options if you're on a budget. They're no frills but they're clean and nicer than most other Super 8's / Motel 6's). YOU NEED EARLY ENTRY. IT'S AMAZING Plus this way you have a Kings Dominion Platinum Pass too which is always nice, and if you want you can pay for it over the course of 6 months. I highly recommend 2 days. Maybe get Fastlane Plus one of the 2 days if you want to treat yourself. I'd suggest doing it on day one and then taking it easier on day 2. Also a Platinum Pass saves you money on every purchase in the park, and if you eat at Famous Daves in the Marina (a great option on the more laid back day 2... sit outside on the deck) you can even save money there with the Platinum Pass. It works everywhere on the Peninsula.
  2. We went a few weeks ago but were short on time. We rode the Log Flume, Comet, Bobsled and left. Nothing of interest to report. The park is still mediocre, operations are still hilariously bad but it's a very pretty park and it seems to be better maintained than most parks in the chain. The larson loop looks nice in it's location.
  3. To be fair, nothing "The GP" says about this ride can be any dumber or any more reactionary than some of the crap being spewed by some of the "experts" in this thread
  4. It's always nice when I see a new thread that I know I can turn into an unofficial "Knoebels Appeciation Thread". As soon as I see A.J. post in it I know my plan was a success.
  5. Yeah it needs some WD-40. lol what the hell is that? I'm sure the ride is fine but if I were the neighbors I'd be pissed.
  6. I know what you were probably thinking. Today is going great but I could really use more vertical video in my life. Well today is your lucky day! Behold... First test run video.
  7. Agreed. They're "treating" Dorney exactly the way they should be "treating" Dorney. They're focusing on the water park and occasionally adding some cheap flat ride or relocated coaster. People get mad when I say that but the business model makes perfect sense to me.
  8. People are slowly coming over to the dark side...
  9. I never thought I'd see the day where people want to make the launch system similar to Top Thrill Dragster's to improve reliability. Also I love how everyone's an expert on the launch mechanics of a wooden roller coaster now. If people that do this professionally can't figure it out I highly doubt a bunch of enthusiasts on a message board can.
  10. Why are people even justifying the dumb "let's just put a chain lift on it even though a launch would be funner (yes... funner)" idea with a response?
  11. Knoebels has sort of modernized but let's think about the biggest draws in that park. People to go that park in droves to ride a wood coaster from 1948, Bumper cars from the 40's, Flyers from 1937, a wood coaster that opened in 1999 but is based off of and named after a classic wood coaster from Denver that had been closed for decades before they decided to resurrect it, a Flying turns ride that used blueprints from a ride that opened in the 20's at Euclid Beach and a swimming pool from the 20's. Of their most popular rides and biggest draws, Impulse is really the only modern ride type and they were doing just fine before they put it in. Knoebels hasn't survived because it's modernized while keeping it's charm. It's survived by being awesome and bringing back tons of long-gone rides and ride types from the "golden era". The modern rides aren't the big draw there, they're just icing on the cake.
  12. Yes he does. And that changes my answer in no way because the point I was making is that all the biggest draws in that park are from that era or in the case of Flying Turns and Twister redesigned rides from that era (though Mr. Twister was a tiny bit later) and the park draws insane crowds.
  13. For the money, I'll take DW's food in Aunt Granny's, Miss Lillian's, Backstage, and Ham & Beans over any other park. Obviously Disney has some really nice restaurants, but that's $$$ comparatively.. I have a hard time deciding between Knoebels and Dollywood when it comes to food. At Knoebels you can walk up to any food stand and order any random thing and it'll probably be amazing. At Dollywood they have a lot of crap to sift through but if you find the right place like Lillian's, a skillet or the Grist Mill it's hard to beat. As for Disney. I've heard Epcot is good but at Magic Kingdom unless you know where to eat or snag a reservation at Be Our Guest, I found their food offerings to be abysmal (especially in Tomorrowland). I'd take the food at Six Flags over most of the food at the Magic Kingdom without hesitation... parks like Busch Gardens, Dollywood and Knoebels blow the majority of the food at WDW away minus a few random places and the world showcase.
  14. Do you have video of this light show? I'd love to see it. I'm a big fan of over-the-top Christmas light displays.
  15. Because the Baltmore Inner Harbor rules and Six Flags America sucks. Lol,..not really. I go to both quite a bit. I'll go to SFA any day over the harbor. I do agree with the crabs and beer thumbs up though. Yeah, but you're spoiled. If you're just visiting then eating Maryland crab is a big deal. Nothing compares to the way they do it in Maryland / Baltimore. I stand by my crabs (could be in the form of a crab cake) and beer suggestion. Oh and to the original poster... remember to put Old Bay on everything. It's a Maryland tradition. And try a Natty Boh. It sucks but we love it anyway.
  16. Very fun. I'm not a big fan of the color scheme on the mine train but everything else was really cool.
  17. Holy sh** it's Liam on TPR. Re-visiting this it's actually really solid. I don't know why I didn't pay as much attention to it when it was released. I know all the hype was around De Val but both entries are really solid.
  18. I wish you would not skim posts next time... I'm not one to backseat moderate but the mods told you not to post here. So I'll just quote what they already told you and leave it here. Don't post in this thread anymore.
  19. No, but I enjoy Coal Cracker, Howler and Flying Falcon. Lines will be long because it's Hershey and they always are.
  20. They still stagger it. Loch Ness Monster usually opens before the park. It seems like Germany is the last area to open. As far as I know everything else opens at 10:00.
  21. You know when you see a totally asinine post on Facebook and then you lose all faith in humanity... but then you see people liking the post and feel even worse because you realize that more than one person actually agrees with that idiotic thinking and it's not isolated to one idiot? That's how I feel right now. Anyone else? Bonus Points if nicman agrees with this post because he has no self awareness.
  22. This thread is making my head hurt.
