Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It all depends on height and body type. I don't experience any roughness on it at all. I'm about 5'5" and 120 lbs. Am I more likely to get headbang or not? I have no idea. But personally I love the thing. Ride it once, you'll either love it or hate it. There's no in between with Anaconda. -

I don't care what your opinion is, but since you missed so many of the best rides in the park it's hard to take your opinion seriously. It reminds me of the guy that went to Cedar Point and complained that they didn't like the park and then went on to talk about how they skipped Millennium Force and most of their best rides. Did you ever stop to think that maybe there was a reason those rides had such huge lines? It's fun, food AND fantasy. Get it right. No. I'm in complete denial about the fact that I'm almost 30. I'm one of the cool kids. I refuse to let anyone tell me otherwise. Now get off my lawn. -

Thunderbird and X Flight can transfer every train off too. I'm not sure about the European ones. -

That's actually great news. I didn't know that but you're right... they wouldn't upgrade the lighting package and then remove it all in the same year. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

I take it you didn't eat at the park? or ride the Chair Lift? or do the Museums (Knoebel's, Mining, Carousel)? or play any Fascination? or go on: the Carousel, Paratrooper, Flyers, Whip, Flume, Cosmotron, or Bumper Cars (so I've heard, we skipped em)? How about the evening Train ride into the woods? that's the only reasons I can imagine you didn't enjoy this spectacular place. I'm sure this is accurate. Anyone who treats this as a credit stop is doing It wrong. The rides are all maintained very well. I think he's confusing "old" with "about to fall apart". By the sounds of things he didn't ride the Bumper Cars or Flyers because he would have mentioned them even though they're the best rides in the park besides Phoenix and Twister and probably rode Black Diamond expecting a roller coaster. Anyway. Bye Felicia. We don't need this kind of negativity interfering with our fun, food and fantasy. Have fun up in New England riding the most overrated wood coaster ever (Yankee Cannonball) while we enjoy our 2 amazing ones at Knoebels. Oh and enjoy your terrible flyers too. Lol -
Most people on this website can't spell for sh*t. I think you're asking the wrong people.

Intamin and Giovanola and B&M
coasterbill replied to coloradocoasterguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Intamin's steel coaster track and vehicles are made by Stakotra, a Slovakian company. My understanding (which may be missing some elements) is that they acquired a portion of Intamin quite some time ago and thus have operated as Intamin's sole supplier for those fields. Zierer, Gerstlauer, Huss (prior to the bankruptcy) and Maurer Sohne also have rides fabricated by Stakotra, though not necessarily exclusively as I understand it. Intermountain Lift in Utah does the fabrication for Premier and a few of the other US firms. Think of it like this from now on: If you go to a big condo development, do you think the developer designs the building? Nah, he pays architects for that. Does he construct the building? Nah, he pays a construction company for that. The developer doesn't source the materials himself, they don't build the appliances inside the condos, they probably don't pay to have custom handles and switches and stuff and instead someone goes through catalogs and on searches to find materials. Theme park rides are no different at any - and I mean ANY - park. Even the almighty Disney had to outsource the actual design and fabrication of all their rides, mostly to Arrow (though most "disney historians" give Arrow zero credit), and they still do even now. Disney's new coasters are all Vekoma. We're all aware of this. He's referring to Disney's early years. Ed Morgan and Karl Bacon from Arrow had their hands in tons of Disney's most iconic attractions. They were interviewed at one point by Robert Reynolds and it was published in a book called Roller Coasters, Flumes and Flying Saucers. You know I'm not one to dork out too much but I highly recommend giving it a read. -
Intamin and Giovanola and B&M
coasterbill replied to coloradocoasterguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay. I'm going to go off topic but you said "Von Roll" and to the surprise of absolutely nobody it spiked my interest. I actually never knew this but it explains a few things I had been wondering about. One of which is why Space Spiral at Cedar Point was built by Willy Bühler Space Towers and Von Roll (the former was purchased by Von Roll later on) and looks identical down to the walkways that surround it to Spirale at La Ronde but I often see that ride credited to Intamin. What I'm wondering though is why did they need Intamin to broker their rides for them after they (I'm assuming) sold it directly to Cedar Point? Did that have something to do with the Willy Bühler Space Towers merger? -

Probably accounted for it never having a line ever My point is that most B&M's transfer all trains off each night. So since Wild Eagle has 2 trains that would generally mean it wold have 2 transfer tracks. Some rides (like a lot of Arrow coasters) transfer all trains off but one and one just stays on the track but B&M's don't usually do that so I found it odd. -

Does Wild Eagle only have room for one train in transfer? That's very strange for a B&M. -

As you should be. And to be fair, Flight of Fear is actually better anyway just because it's in the dark. That makes anything awesome. -

Flight of Fear is better because if you're riding Flight of Fear that means you're not at Six Flags America. -
US Trip Planning help needed
coasterbill replied to mschisano's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That plan is perfect. You won't need a skip the line pass except at Great Adventure (go for Platinum... go all in) and Cedar Point if you feel like treating yourself. If you can, get a wristband at Knoebels plus coasters obviously. PS: See if the rental company has a toll option. If not, meet your new best friend. Enter whatever license plate number you want. Nobody cares what the plate number on the rental car is. It'll just read the transponder anyway and it'll be brand new so it won't die and use the plate for backup. -
Don't get me wrong here I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Universal's approach at all, it is different than Disney's for various reasons but it is perfectly fine. Personally I do kind of enjoy picking my meals and making dining reservations and fastpass+ reservations months ahead of time, I completely understand how some people prefer the spontaneity but for me planning out the trip out in advance is kind of part of the fun. Even when I make last minute short weekend trips (which are most of my trips) honestly I've never had a problem getting fastpasses/dining reservations for anything I wanted with a few exceptions like 7 Dwarves Mine Train, Be Our Guest, Ana Elsa, TSM but honestly even those attractions I've gotten FP+ the day of many times. Heck I had a FP for Frozen Ever After even though I couldn't make it down that day. And the Fast pass+/ Express Pass comparison well there isn't a comparison because they are completely different. Next time I go to Universal (it's been a while) I'm going to stay on property and get an Express Pass because it's been so long since I've been, but it is nice at Disney to know that I can reserve 3 or 4 of my favorite attractions ahead of time anytime I want without having to drop an extra $100 a day to do so. Sure it is nice to throw some more money at Universal to have a great day, but it's also nice to have an AP to Disney where I don't have to spend extra money to get on whatever I want whenever I want to on a dozen trips per year with just a little bit effort in planning. Again I'm not knocking Universal's approach at all, I'm looking forward to staying on property and getting Express passes, just gonna have to wait a few years until my kids are taller than 40" so there are more than 3 rides I can take them on..........(that part was me throwin some shade at UO) If I was an annual pass holder who lived locally I would love Fast Pass at Disney. If you're a day guest on vacation though I prefer Universal's system because it's easier, more exclusive, there's no initial setup like with Disney's system (though is is much easier if you stay on property) and when you're on vacation you don't care about dropping some extra cash which wouldn't be at all feasible if I were a passholder that just dropped in for a few hours at a time.

I agree with all of this. I don't really want to complain about Fast Pass and My Disney Experience because it's free, but it was so frustrating at first that I just wanted to throw money at them like I can at Universal so I didn't have to deal with the B.S. I started to like Disney's system more once I got more familiar with it but at first it's a pain in the ass. Especially if you're not staying on property so you have to scan the codes on every admission ticket to add everyone to a group to book FastPass. And if different people in the group want different FastPasses because some people like thrill rides and some don't but then we want to share some other ones it's insanely annoying if you haven't used it before. We enjoyed the setup at Universal much more, and City Walk blows Disney Springs away just because of it's convenient location (which isn't Disney's fault of course) so I agree in regards to dining also. Plus they have a Margaritaville and I'm a massive Parrothead.
