that game was great... been rooting for italia the whole way and to see them win was.... well... lets just say it ranks as one of the most exhilerating feelings ever!

zidane was a classless fool.

And IMO Bufone has a perfect regulation play record this world cup. That france goal was a fluke that should never have happened in the fist place... and the one against the US doesnt count.

Italia!

yeah not a great way to end a career...though I'm pretty sure Materazzi provocated him quite strongely by saying some really nasty things to him, also (Materazzi) he isn't the fairest player either, ie. got 6 or more red cards when he played 27 games for Everton... and Zidane has some temper, because I remember him being sent off before, when he just went forward and pushed down a player to the ground.

I feel a bit sorry for Trezeguet when missed his penalty, as he hadn't played much at all in the tournament, even though he's good.

Anyway, congratulations Italy!!

Never mind.

Sounds like yet another controversial match in this year's tourney. Was this particularly poorly called set of matches, or is there always this much noise about bad calls in World Cup matches?

I must say I now have a new found respect for soccer.

Herc, I'm curious as to why? I actually lost what little respect I had for the game after watching some this year. IMHO, soccer has the biggest concentration of wusses playing a professional sport. It was pathetic how the "real" competition consisted more of who had better acting skills than who could bend one inside the crossbar from 80 feet out. If they're breathed on wrong, half of these guys will dive, feign a career-ending injury, and then be up and running again 5 seconds after they see there's no yellow card.....PATHETIC. I'd ove to see these "men" play hockey, american football, or worse....Australian Rules Football. Pansies.

End Rant. And watching of soccer.

and i agree, that penalty was complete crap, it was an obvious dive...

i know... you had to have been at the cafe i was watching it at to get why i spelled it that way though. That was probably the most fun part of the game... Italian fans and French fans in one cafe watching the game... it almost got messy.

Italy only started to play the dive game in this one after france showed in that early bit that it was going to rely on that. France's only goal was tainted, and Italia's was PURE and UNDENIABLE.

I am proud today.

diving is part of the game and it happens all the time, but i actually think that the referee did a great job of spotting most of the dives and telling the guy who dived to get back up.

There's only 1 referee on the field, and you cant expect him to see everything. he only gets 1 look at full speed, and most of the plays the 1st time you see them dont look like dives...

OMG!!! i was in line for back to the future yesterday when my phone rang. it said "new text message." so i pressed "read." the message said "italy won."...i freaked out. i was screaming and i jumped in the air. everyone else in line turned their head and stared at me, but i didn't care, i just screamed at them "ITALY WON! ITALY WON! ITALY WON!" man, i couldn't have worn my italian stallion shirt on a better day! i'm still happy!

the even better part about sunday was that i was at universal studios with french people. . Johnnie and Fransuoix's faces were in total shock and dissapointment and i was jumping up and down and cheering.

Zidane, who retired after the July 9 final, will appear before a FIFA disciplinary panel in Zurich.

While FIFA hasn't said what the punishments might be, the former France captain could receive a fine and a symbolic ban and also be stripped of his "Golden Ball" award as the best player in the tournament.

Zidane, who had a stellar, 18-year career, said he attacked Materazzi because the Italian defender insulted his mother and sister.

Materazzi, who denies insulting Zidane's mother, appeared last week before the FIFA committee. The Inter Milan player also faces a possible fine and match ban.

Would someone please tell these people what trash talking is all about. If anything, Materazzi deserves a parade through Italy, and perhaps a scolding by FIFA, for them to "save face," if anything, I suppose. His tactic worked.....simple as that. Imagine if the NFL imposed fines for this type of stuff?
