I am so excited to be playing a NEW 2D Mario Game and the Reviews coming in are all Fantastic.

http://ds.ign.com/articles/705/705537p1.html

It looks like a real winner and I will be buying at ASAP in a little over a week.

The other 2D Mario Games have stood the test of time so well...no matter what, I can always have a good time playing them and they never get old..whether on GBA or on home system.

Anybody else buying it ASAP?

I was afraid this game wouldn't live up to the originals. But now it looks like it just might.

I'll be getting it once i pry myself away from Brain Age: Train your brain in Minutes a Day....

(or the day it releases)

As I said in the E3 thread, I'll be picking it up tomorrow (but my internal clock is all wonky and meant next week). i think it looks great, and I love the 2d Mario side-scrollers.

It looks nice, but its common knowledge that the Super Mario franchise reached perfection in 1990 with Super Mario Bros. 3. I'm fairly confident saying that no Mario game will ever come close to being as good as Super Mario Bros. 3.

According to the article/review, that 4-5 hours sounds like its jsut going from point A to point B without getting all of the secrets. I could be wrong though.

Between 3 and World, I have to give the edge to SMB3, but World is pretty close to it.

I believe SMB3 Was THE groundbreaking title in the series but I think that SMW was the Best of all of them. So much variety and fun..it was a fresh, updated and more polished SMB3 and the graphics were awesome for the time.

I wish I had a DS now...

Oh well! I still have my SNES with Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars and Mario RPG (:lover:)

I will definitely pick this game up once I finally go out and get a DS, which won't be until the new model is available. Until then, I'm content playing SMB3 on my phone.

Yeah, get a DS, and I will DEFINATLY be getting this game, very impressive looking, I was ready to be dissapionted, but I am doubting Nintendo less and less these days

Ooh, that makes me want to buy a DS. (I only have a PS2).

Mario rules! My brother's friend had a Nintendo growing up and I remember spending countless afternoons at his house, watching them play SMB 3. Finally, when I was 9, we got a Super NES, and I was introduced to the joy that is Super Mario World. Been hooked since then

The Nintendo DS has already brought us one true Mario game, a port of Mario 64 called "Super Mario 64 DS". Nothing unique and nearly everything thats the same as the nearly-10 year old game. Nintendo realised it was about high time for a new Mario game and to do it in "Old Skool" fashion with some new twists. The answer? New Super Mario Bros. (or NSMB).

The storyline? Generic Nintendo storyline number 1, Save the princess (Peach or Zelda) from (Bowser or Gannondorf). Nothing new here folks...

The graphics? Much like SEGA's Sonic Rush, NSMB has a mix of sprites used in backgrounds and items while characters/enemies are in 3D.

The levels? Classic Mario fare, collect coins, stomp on things, etc. But the design seems a little linear, but exploration plays a key in finding star coins. Star coins usually are used to enter certain areas or unlock Toad Houses (much like in Super Mario Bros. 3).

The bosses? Good news, all of the bosses are different. Bowser Jr. unleashes a different boss for each world so its not just fightning Bowser over and over again.

Whats new? Several new abilities to the 2-D series. For instance, Mario can now Ground Pound and Wall Kick. Then, new powerups, Mega Mushrooms make Mario grow to ginormous proportions. Whatever walks into Mario is killed and smashed. Try to get everything you can in Mega form, the more you smash, the more 1UP's you get! Then theres the Mini Mushroom, which shrinks Mario. Is that bad? Not really, it allows him to enter certain areas and run on water. Then the Blue Shell, unlike thwart the first place winner like in the Mario Kart series, the Blue Shell allows Mario to become a Koopa himself. There's no flying power up or no Yoshi...

The only downers about the game is that it feels too short and that Nintendo went a little trigger happy on getting 1UP's. However, NSMB is another great Mario game that will make another reason to get the DS. It seems all of the good platformers are on the DS nowadays...

Overall, 9/10.

Woo Hoo. Got it love it....feels so old yet so new

I pretty much agree with everything Homer said so I will not repeat but it is defintely a must buy for DS owners...cannot wait to beat it and play some more to find everything.

BTW Circuit City has it for $27.99 thru Saturday (5-20-06) as opposed to everywhere else having it for $34.99

Just a heads up,

I'm gonna get it, even though I don't have a DS yet.

I will be getting a DS lite next month, when they come out.

But I want to get the game now, I feel that it might be hard to find in a month.

maybe.

Also excited about LoZPH and Star Fox, for the DS!!

I played the first two levels at E3. I loved how they were basically carbon copies of the first two levels of the original SMB game, improved (hence the "NEW" in the title). I also enjoyed Mario becoming humungo Mario and totally just obliterating everything.

If I had a DS, I would totally buy the game. And I just might buy a DS lite; that was also awesome at E3!
