MonkeyPants Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 "First ones here.... First ones here!" http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/weird_news/14432222.htm School sends kids to closed amusement park Associated Press RENO, Nev. - Four bus loads of students from O'Brien Middle School made the four-hour trip to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, Calif., only to find the amusement park's gates locked Monday. The school-sponsored trip was supposed to reward top students. "It was pretty much a fiasco," said Washoe County School District spokesman Steve Mulvenon. "They ended up wasting a day that those kids could have better spent in class or doing what they were going to do at the park." School officials said the $50 fee will be refunded, and the tour company that arranged the trip has agreed to pay for the next one. "The tour company neglected to check the schedule," Mulvenon said. "It is just a bummer for the kids," said parent Jeff Wood. "Now, they will have to wait another month to go and a lot of the kids might not be able to go then." Principal Scott Grange said the school was even given printed tickets with Monday's date on them. "But shame on us for not checking," he said.
coasterguy618 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 That sucks. It's pretty much the school's fault for not checking ahead.
HCOSurfer90 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 ^^I love that movie !!!! Yeah that does pretty much sick though...
ECZenith Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Well, that was stupid of the tour company. That's like the time I went on a chartered bus trip to GADV years ago (before I could drive!) and got into an arguement with the driver when he missed our exit and went the completely wrong way. Ya think a bus co. would know where they're going.
YoshiFan Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I feel bad for the kids because obviously it wasn't their fault but the school was very stupid not to check ahead of time. Unless it's a major park, you can't figure a park will be open on a weekday in April (and of course not even all major parks are open on weekdays yet either).
DerekRx Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I could kinda see it not showing up as opened if there was a special event such as physics days or something like that, but since this was just a tour, I can only laugh at the school and tour company for just randomly picking a Monday in April to go. Unless it was a park I KNOW is opened 365 days a year, I'd have checked the website several times over. I guess they all just assumed the other party did that. Stinks for the kids though, I guess.
Hercules Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 School kids showing up at closed amusement park... that kind of reminds me of Phantazy Land. Oh wait, that park was actually open when those kids were running sprints on the go-kart track? Nevermind.
Jon Sabo Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 "Marty Moose" was the guilty party. He was the one taking the reservations! Shoot the Moose
the sound Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Well, it was almost the school and the travel dudes fault, i mean, you would of checked ahead!
Luxo Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 My school is so cheap, the only "field trips" there are, are picnics on the lawn behind the school. That sucks though, but it looks like they will still be going in May, so that's good.
Bush985 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Wow. Thats a pretty big mess up. Too bad for those kids. I could only imagine being in their situation. -RD
USCoaster Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I guess this is further proof that I should be shocked my high school diploma got me into USC. Its always nice to see a local school make national news over a really stupid mistake. All I have to say is I didn't go to that school.
