In another post someone was asking questions about non-linear editing and I had an idea pop in my head. Just an idea ... so hear me out.

How about a TPR video contest where everyone has the same ingredients. Maybe a couple people could supply some b-roll and each contestant has to create a video using only those clips with their choice of song.

It will give people who don't have a camera an opportunity to create their own video. It could be interesting.

Great Idea Ted, We're going to start this up, so read on to give your input and get ready to participate!

That is very interesting...not this time around, but I like that idea for future contests. I just wonder how to go about doing it so it's fair to everyone. Like we send out a DVD of .avi's or some neutral format that everyone can deal with in their own way or something...It could work.

That sounds pretty neat, but do the Alveys have time to do all this between riding coasters, video editing, keeping their website up to date, love making, and working full time jobs?

^No...but we dont really have time to do half the things that you listed so why not add one more!

^ Don't add anything else!!! Your already too busy ...

A year ago or so we were hanging out with Robb and Elissa every weekend ... now ... were lucky if we get to see them once a month.

Of course, it could be a combination of you guys being busy, and us being busy ... but still ... We need to all get rich, quit our jobs and do one of those business things we were talking about ... as long as it doesn't take up too much time ...

It's not what you want, it's the consumer.

Ahh Joe Dirt, where would I be without your infinite wisdom.

I was thinking kind of along the lines of supplying some MPEG b-roll (AVI would be way too difficult to distribute) and just letting people go to town. The wedding videos would be a very interesting theme, and would probably yield some pretty wild approaches.

Again, just a thought.

I agree!

Let's do this!

First off I'm going to need some suggestions from you guys on what parks you think would be a good idea. Think for everyone...not just you. Also think about how much raw footage we should provide, and how long the segments should be. Since this will be an 'internet only' contest this time, think smaller.

Let's roll with it!

Posted

I think it should be a mix of different types of clips (like onrides off rides POV's and regular theme park stuff) from various parks and each clip is of a different lenth. I'll say about 5-7 minutes of raw clips

Posted

Do you think various clips is the right way to go?

Or do we keep it to one park or theme?

Should it have people in it?

I agree that raw clips should be about 5 - 7 minutes worth and final product should be 2 - 3 minutes.

Keep adding suggestions, I think I'll move this to the general board as well.

This is a great idea!

I think footage should be from one area (Florida, Socal ect.), I don't think it should be limited to one park.

I think contest participants should get 6-7 minutes of park footage and they should get 2-3 minutes of people footage so that can blend it.

It can be one theme that can be easier but all the videos will probably be the same, but that can be said about various clips. OR a poll can be made about which park should the video be made of...

Should it have people in it?

Thats no problem thats why I suggested 5-7 minutes of clips because some people may feel good using clips of people and some may not and you can still come out w/ about a 2-3 minute video!

yeah and make them various lenths!

I vote for about 10-15 minutes of RAW footage (hopefully donated by Robb and Elissa to simplify the process). If there is only 6-7 minutes, I think a lot of the videos may look similar. This way most of the videos will use some different clips.

It may be best to limit the raw footage to 1 or 2 parks.

Yes we'll supply the footage. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to put it all together. I don't really want totally random footage. So start listing some theme ideas...here are some I came up with:

-New for 2005

-Launched Coasters

-One Park

-One Area

Actually I think it's a great idea. I've been wanted to learn to edit videos and contests like this would help me jump in and actually do it. No more excuses!

I kind of like the one park idea and it will make it easy for you to gather clips. The raw footage should have some "human" footage. It will be interesting to see what kind of funny out of context moments you can put the people in.

This sounds like a great Idea!

I do think if you simplify it too much, you will get a lot of very similar vids. It should probably be kept to one park and 8-10 minutes of raw footage. Then confine the video to a max of 2 minutes. That's a 4 or 5 to 1, raw to used ratio. You should be able to get a lot of variety with that.

^ That is funny, cause it popped in my head yesterday also. We really need to do this!

It is kind of like a Video Editing version of the Aristocrats.

Eccept not as dirty....

But this sounds like a great idea. Especially since I haven't been able to edit anything new since my accident.....(Sting Ray vs. Video Cam Corder, and Sting Ray won. )
