V2-dude Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 http://www.rcdb.com/ig720.htm?picture=5 Does anyone know what this is? It's on Wildfire's transfer.
coasterdude5 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Hmmm... I don't remember seeing it when I rode it a few years ago. Weird...
DragonKhan Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Yup... A cage for workers to do maintenance on the track... It is motorized and levels out on ever part of the track. Very helpful...
coaster1 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Jus tike Silver Bullet's and what not. Been there since the ride opened in 2001.
trustkill22 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wow. Thats my first time ever seeing something like that. And I just learned something today.
V2-dude Posted February 12, 2006 Author Posted February 12, 2006 Thanks, but wouldn't there be one on all B&Ms?
coaster1 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 No, it's a park preference. SFFT doesn't have one cause they employee cranes on site as well as SFOT for their Batman. SDC is situated on the edge of a mountain to say the least where Wildfire is, the construction alone was a pain and they don't remove any trees for any purpose. If they remove 1 tree, they plant 3 new ones on property. So getting a crane out to the location is a pain.
Eunuch Provocateur Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I wonder what it'd be like riding in that thing, rightside up in a loop de loop de. Whoa crazy.
coasterdude5 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wait, so it can go through the whole course!?
Canadmos Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Yes. If you take a look at some of the Silver Bullet construction pictures you can see 'the ball' in action (sorry, don't have a link handy).
coaster1 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wait, so it can go through the whole course!? Yes it can .. it can move and stop anywhere on the track.
coasterdude5 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wow, I'd pay to ride that! But what about the cobra roll? Wouldn't it have some difficulties maneuvering through it?
Shockwave Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Haha! I saw that huge cage, and I thought - does anyone remember that game called Atlaspheres from American Gladiators?
ebl Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 ^ I went to an American Gladiators taping about a dozen years ago. What was interesting was that the arena was so small in person. Anyway, I don't think SFMM has that thing for any of its B&Ms. I sure don't recall seeing one anywhere out there. Eric
trustkill22 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 HAHA I just watched American Gladiators over the weekend and all I have to say is I remembered the good times just waiting for that show to come on. And that vehicle is probaly one of the best things I have ever seen and is a great invention.
coaster1 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wow, I'd pay to ride that! But what about the cobra roll? Wouldn't it have some difficulties maneuvering through it? It has an articulated rolling stock like the coaster cars/trains. There wheels and bogies flex for the track and the cage can roll around an axis.
pkdcoaster Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 The 1st one I saw was on Batman Knight Flight (Dominator) in 2000 I figured it was for maintenance since getting a crane out there would be a pain. JEFF
coaster1 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Basically thats the reason. KBF has walkways under SB, so the car makes sense, same with SDC having a mountain slope which would be a pain to pull in and park on the slope. The station alone is a good 40ft off the ground.
Jew Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Anyway, I don't think SFMM has that thing for any of its B&Ms. I sure don't recall seeing one anywhere out there. SFMM actually welded little handles on the back of the spine in some areas to allow maintenance people to climb on the ride easier. If they don't use those, they use a cherry picker.
Jeezus Juice Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 It's not just B&M's either. I remember seeing one on Steel Force last year. As far as riding in one, didn't Knotts auction off a ride at Solace last year? -Don
