robbalvey Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 So here I am in lovely Knutsford, England. I'm here on business, so there is no "fun" for me this trip. And it's looking like it's going to be such a busy trip that I probably won't even get a chance to meet up with any TPR members. Tom and Lou are both nearby and I'm stuck doing work. *sigh* Oh, well....Since I haven't really slept in about 40 hours, I'm going to make this quick and post some random photos..... And here was the last beer I drank. A "proper" English Guiness (well, at least more proper than the US version, but not as proper than being in Ireland!) Damn, I'm all alone! At least I have a nice swanky room to go to at night! Here's where I'll spend the next few days. The guy is BURNING the paint off the ground create a highly toxic paint and asphault cloud! "C'mon, let's walk through the cloud and get cancer!" What in the hell is going on here? The Manchester airport looks more like a meat packing facility than an airport. Hell, this places makes LAX look GOOD! Landing in Manchester. Looks pretty overcast, nasty, and bleak. I LOVE IT!!!! The high tech in-flight entertainment system had the latest in video game technology. Cool....all they show is bad Star Trek episodes. Here is our British Midlands plane. It's an airbus made by the French. Oui Oui!!! Here I am, taking to Elissa who is at Magic Mountain I had a layover in Chicago O'Hare which means I got to go through the ULTIMATE "Main Street Electrical Walkway!" Bummer there wasn't the music anymore.
Hattuchili Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Hey Robb, I am glad you made it save to the UK! To sad you have no time to meet some guys from the boards! Your room looks nice, but does your company has no money for a real hotel? I mean on your last trip the hotels were awesome! It looks like Activision needs to save the money for other things! --Sören
robbalvey Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 ^ There aren't a lot of hotels to choose from in Knutsford! Besides, this one is down the street from the developer AND has high speed internet access. I can't complain! --Robb
dandaman Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Robb, I think Elissa's telepathically controlling you. Why else would you be eating at McD's while you two were talking?
Hattuchili Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 ^^ Uh okay, but one more thing, Robb! Stay away from the UK "porn" TV channel! --Sören
Louise Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Manchester, bleak and overcast?!?! NEVER!! Holy crap, which airport terminal was that?! Shame you're so near and yet so busy! Just be thankful you're in Knutsford and not in Stockport....
Louise Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Alright, for some reason it doubled my post so I'm going to respond to Chrissie's response below! Manchester airport is nice, always has been, wins awards and everything! Me and my brother are picking my parents up from there on Saturday morning, I might do a bit of exploring and see whether the rest of the place has gone downhill as well.... Strange. And also, I'm disappointed that Chrissie didn't mention the Robbie Williams song "Knutsford City Limits" in her post.
Chrissie Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Welcome 2 The UK Robb! Seriously, Manchester airport has gone a bit down hill! I dont remember it being like that! *Shrugs* Anyhooo..... Enjoy the next few days of "amazing" weather and lets hope you don't end up with a Great British Cold like me
pvcoasterguy Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Awww... no more music in the O'Hare light up tunnel? That's just depressing... the music was pretty cool, and it made the tunnel have energy. Now all you hear is, "The moving walkway is coming to an end- please step up." Ugh...
Joe Cool Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Hahaha that is new one on me of burning paint on the rode.
Shockwave Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Glad you got over safely Robb! Shame you're busy this week. I'm only 15 mins down the road, and I'm working 3pm till 11pm all week! Lousy jobs. Oh well!
Ed Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I can see my house! (joke) Haha that terminal looks so skanky. The British Airway's one is sooo much nicer than that. It's all refurbished and posh. Knutsford really is close. I see a bus that goes to the school there nearly every morning on my way to college! Just be glad you aren't experiencing the nearby motorway services.. They don't have a McDonalds! Infact nowhere does But the ones near Knutsford are about to fall apart. Just be thankful you're in Knutsford and not in Stockport.... Haha oh I don't know... Stockport does has some classy parts... You just have to look very hard to find them. Shame you haven't got any time to see Manchester!
Louise Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Just be thankful you're in Knutsford and not in Stockport.... Haha oh I don't know... Stockport does has some classy parts... You just have to look very hard to find them. Ahem. OF COURSE Stockport has classy parts, there IS a high-class movie star living there you know.
DerekRx Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Sucks that you're there, Robb, but look on the brightside, at least you're not some place else that you totally hate, like Quebec or worse, Los Angeles! I hope you give lots of random TRs with butter, your head in a safe, and funny signs. Hopefully you'll at least have time to go dorking.

Louise Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 ^ Yeah, it's on that tour they do of all the tourist attractions, right?! Derek actually makes a good point Robb, even if the work side is totally crappy and you don't get chance to meet up with anybody you can always entertain yourself (ok, so I actually mean entertain us) taking stupid photos. And need I say the magic words: DOUBLE DECKER.
Ed Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not much of a house Lou... and before you ask, Yes! that is in Stockport..

I won't have any chance to go dorking, unless if course I meet up with Tom! Kind of sucks that I'm actually busy this trip otherwise it would be a PERFECT trip for randon photos! Anyway, Tom, don't be too surprised if you get a call from me later! --Robb
robbalvey Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 This mornings installment of my Random UK Trip report is entitled "Robb Makes Coffee-UK Style!" And for those of you wondering, yes, the toilet was in fact made by "Amitage Shanks" It's going right where it belongs!!! "OOOOOH MY GOD!!!! IT'S TERRIBLE!!!!" Here goes the first sip..... Here I am all ready to enjoy my tasty UK beverage. Add Milk...hmm...this doesn't look too much like coffee.... Pour water on top. This I can handle. Ok, plop the coffee bag thingy into the cup. Weird, yes...but whatever... Lots of instructions just for coffee! I'm going to try some "Cafe Express" Aww, water is nice and hot now. While I wait for the water to boil, let's see what's happening on TPR! Julie and Mike in chat....looks like things are pretty normal! There's the milk sitting in my fridge, all alone waiting to be used up. "Horlicks" WTF is a Horlick?!?!? (I'm doing my best impression!) Plop it onto the hot plate thingy...ok....not too bad. Fill it up with water...easy enough. "How exactly does this thing work?" So this morning I wake up and I'm greeting by a nice tray of powdered coffee options and buscuits. Hmm....
Louise Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 What's a Horlick? Possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard. Clearly your coffee sucks. Why'd they give you two mugs?!
Meteornotes Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I'm heading out in a few minutes for eye surgery, which I'm not looking forward to, but you gave me some great laughs with your latest batch of photos! And I have a new word to use today, "horlick". I shall have fun working it into conversations with telemarketers... dt
cfc Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Excuse me, my good man, but that's Sir Armitage Shanks, Lord of the Loo.
Joe Cool Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Hahah that made me laugh! That sucks that your breakfest sucked Robb.
Hattuchili Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 LMAO, your update was one of the funniest I have ever seen! But it is really sad, that your breakfast was so bad! Anyway, are there really 3 cell phones beside your laptop, in one picture? I only have one and that is more than enough! --Sören
